It is always quiet here for lunch which suits me as their mini pizzas are very good.

They take a while to come out but that could be because I have always been in a large group when we ordered.

The beers on tap are a bit limited but it us the food I come for.

A place to be avoided on a tuesday. Filled with underage kids or newly overage high schoolers. Cramped. I've heard that other nights are better.

The Hawthorn also belongs to the new breed of pub with it's modern decor and relatively trendy clientel. In my experience, the Hawthorn is best visited in the late afternoon, where you can sit out in the terrace beer garden with a jug and some of the delicious wedges (these are particularly good). After dark, the Hawthorn is a different animal though and being right on the universities doorstep, this is not surprising.

Good pub food with a nice atmosphere throughout the day. One of the best pubs in the area on a weeknight, espicially 'Tightarse Tuesdays' when drinks princes are low low low. The music is its only major let down however some great live bands do come along every now and then. Dominated by uni students.

we went as a family. Food was good. Cheap with hearty serves. Service was friendly & prompt. We had the chicken parmigiana which was lovely. Made up for the awful ambience. I didn't see the beer garden. If there is one, I recommend eating there.

Serving mainly uni students this bar is not overly expensive and often has a cover band playing. A night each month will have a dress up theme, has a over crowded deck out back and very hard to find a seat though it is a pub so why bother sitting. Thursday nights are good though they are open other times.

Almost every second week I head down to the Hawthorn. Whether your looking for a night to catch up with friends or a night to get drunk and part, the Hawthorn is great and has a range of music as well as a large outdoor area. I highly recommend the Hawthorn.
