They lost a star on service because the first time I was there I asked for a burger at 11:55am and was told I couldn't order lunch until 12:00pm. Otherwise, service is ok. The food is quite interesting - the corn jacks I had for breakfast were something I'd never had at another venue, and the snickers milkshake is a winner. The slices are quite incredible. I do feel a bit ambiguous about the defaced Golden Books being used as menus though.

The rating is based on their lunchtime menu, which has most mains under $15. The prices have crept up over the years, but the quality has always remained consistent. It is just another bar-pokies-restaurant venue, but the specials board always has a long list, and the food is always delicious. Parking can be a pain, though.

Been going here for years for the delicious pizza. It's not much to look at, with vinyl chairs, laminate tables, and odd knock knacks everywhere, but once that hot, tasty pizza is put in front of you, you want even care.
They have a huge menu, with the usual pizzas and pastas, but also a great range of mains and souvlakis. Whatever you do, you can't go past the Turkish bread with cheese, garlic and herbs. Amazing!
Approximate cost: $10-20
This place is old school Chinese. Think vinyl chairs, paper table cloths and cheap, decades old 'artwork' on the walls. And the food is brilliant. The meat is always a good cut, no fatty, grisly bits, and the vegies fresh. The service is always great, whether it's a quick take away, or eating in (where the waiter will practically fall over himself to help you).
Approximate cost: $15
Used to love this place, and went back after a long break and was quite disappointed. They forgot our bread order, wouldn't make simple adjustments to the menu (chips instead of wedges), overcooked the steak (no pink in a medium cooked steak) and burnt the pudding (presentation was nice, but the cake part of the pudding was extremely dry, to the point of being crunchy, like it had been in a microwave too long). The staff were nice enough...tis a shame, but we won't be rushing back.

Like every Sunday in Barwon Heads, there were people everywhere looking for a relaxed meal. Barwon Orange is a cosy cafe in a converted house. A reasonably sized room indoors and then a deck of similar size. We were on the deck on a bright but windy day in June for lunch. They had the clear Perspex shades down to keep us sheltered from the wind, and a small overhead heater keeping the room warm. Service was quick and friendly and the food delicious. Good quality and a great range with breakfast available all day (at least on Sunday).
Approximate cost: $20
The food was good, but for the prices charged, I would expect amazing. The quality wasn't much better than upmarket pub food. A friend of mine was shocked at the chocolate spring roll, which was one mini spring roll and two scoops of ice cream...for $15! I think the waitress was well aware of this as she basically dropped it on the table and ran. Other than that, service was acceptable, if a little slow.
The room is also starting to look dated, especially the dusty looking light fittings. And speaking of lights, be careful to not fall down the steps as you exit as there are absolutely no external lights.
Approximate cost: $40-45
If you're into natural and/or organic bath products, this is the place to go! The biggest range and very competitive prices. I am stuck on buying as-organic-as-possible haircare and skincare products, and expected to have to buy online, but could never find all I wanted in the one place, but this place had everything! And at even better prices than online. Great surprise!
Maybe I caught them on an off day, but when I walked up to the counter the guy behind the register looked at me like I was from another planet. Maybe they have table service? With all the staff in the background chatting to one another rather than attending to customers I figured you had to ask for their attention. I just stopped for morning tea, and was very disappointed. The hot chocolate was weak and gritty and the lemon slice dry and bland, like it had been sitting in the fridge for a few weeks. Yes, it's convenient being right next to the cinema, but there must be better options just down the road. Oh, and my bill came out to over $8! For a simple hot chocolate and lemon slice?!
All round great service. Long list of treatments available at some of the best prices I have ever seen. Better yet, the staff are very friendly and really know what they are doing.
