I took my daughters car to have the tyres checked and balanced and asked if they could check the disk pad thickness which they wrote on the order sheet. When ready to pay I had to ask how the disk pads were. The senior staff member went back to the workshop and returned and advised that the rear pads had a millimetre left about 5,000kms and I would need to change quickly. I then asked how the front pads were. He went out to the workshop and returned and advised that they were approx 9mm left and had plenty of life. They then noted on the receipt that it would cost $250 to replace the rear pads and skim the disks.
Acting on this information I decided to buy rear pads to change the worn ones as I was concerned that my daughter would leave it and forget. After purchasing the pads I removed the rear wheels and found that both sides still had approx 5-6mm of material left. I then checked the front pads and found that they had approx 9mm of material left. I rang management to advise that he had given me incorrect information and had already spent money and time. He advised that he would not purchase the pads from me and he would reinforce with his staff to be more careful when advising the thickness of the disk pads.
I am not happy with his response and wish to advise everyone that he has a duty of care to the people he deals with. I did mention that if I had returned the car to do the work they advised if they would have done it even though there was plenty of life left in the pads. He said that it was only another 10,000 and they would have done it. I then advised that I when I checked the log book the pads had been there for about 50,000km and that his response was incorrect.
I want people to be aware that if they deal with this company to be very carefully and it may even be wise to ask can you personally check the pad thickness if you are in a similar situation
I will say that the work I asked them to do was done in a professional manner
