This review is for Grind Cafe, Mortdale NSW

I live very close and this is not my regular cafe. They are very popular so I thought I'd give them a chance. Firstly the coffee is very very good and the staff are friendly enough, it's always busy however the food isn't so great especially if you are vegetarian and only want something light. I got a brownie once and it wasn't that great but I'm used to homemade at another local cafe so I guess it was standard and today I wanted a quiche or a toasted sandwich so they made me a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich which tasted extremely bland and was at least $9, overpriced for a slice of cheese, 2 slices of tomato and brown bread toasted especially as this is not the inner west but to make matters worse it took over 15-20 minutes to make my order, they did apologize but honestly for the price and quality that's really not good enough. I should have gone to my local cafe instead. If the coffee wasn't decent both times I've been then I'd be even more annoyed. I do have some additional comments to make. It's a cash only cafe with no signage on the door or in the cafe to indicate this whatsoever. I find that unprofessional, also who doesn't have eftpos especially when you are charging inner west prices. I don't think I'll be back unless I'm after a quick take out coffee.

Based on everyone else's reviews I'm assuming I just had bad luck and being vegetarian is hard with cafes, they don't know what flavour is. If you are vegetarian and don't want to pay $16 for a grilled vegie sandwich or $9 for a bland toasted sandwich but love coffee and standard run of the mill cake then come here!
I've since been back on 16 August as my favourite local cafe closes at 12pm lunch time on a Sunday and I wanted lunch after 1pm. I ordered the corn fritters with mushrooms and given the price was disappointed that there was no avocado or side salad garnish. I also had the rhubarb apple crumble with icecream which was nice however I was appalled I was charged $5 for the scoop of icecream! Never before have I been overcharged like that! The fritters were slightly undercooked and bland. I'm very disappointed with your savoury vegetarian options and given your cash only policy and the fact you are clearly overpriced for the area, I won't be back. The takeout coffee is good though but that's it! I maybe in the minority here as I test out alot of cafes in the area and inner west/Cronulla but I do know my stuff! Consider your vegetarian customers more please! I get the impression your meat eating customers are happy and make up the bulk of your customers but people talk.

This review is for French Touch Creperie, Surry Hills NSW

verified email - 08 Feb 2015

French Touch is a new cafe on Crown Street that I'd be meaning to try for awhile and I'm glad I did. The staff are all French, very friendly and helpful and the prices are reasonable. I had a Nutella crepe with caramelized icecream. So good! There's a loyalty card system where you get a $25 bottle of wine free on your birthday. Bookings are not essential however you can book either over the phone or on their website. I love the atmosphere and having French food made by French people outside of France is a novelty! I'm sure I'll be back to try the savoury crepes too. They have an extensive menu.

This review is for Badde Manors Cafe, Glebe NSW

I'm vegetarian and whenever I'm in glebe I go to Badde Manors. I've been often and always have the best service, food and love the vegan brownies. Never a bad meal. Would love to see more vegan options though. Brought my Mum and Sister here when they visited from New Zealand. They loved it. The atmosphere is very relaxed.

This review is for Smiles At Waterloo, Waterloo NSW

Smiles at Waterloo is my local dentist, literally a 2 minute walk from home and I've been a few times since 2013 when I moved out this way. I've always found the staff and the dentists to be very professional and friendly. I've had one clean and polish per year, my composite caps fixed on my front teeth and 2 fillings. A little more about the service here; I had an appointment booked in for Wednesday 28 January but had not received a confirmation call the day before which is usually standard. I called to enquire as to what had happened and it turns out the appointment was not correctly entered into the system. I let it slide as these things happen and rescheduled but to my surprise my dentist offered me a 10% discount on my filling today. In addition to this when I had my composite caps fixed back in mid 2013 I noticed that late last year they had started to deteriorate but note I had a stem cell transplant and loads of chemo which is known to make your gums recede and can damage your teeth. I was offered a free polish and consultation to fix this. I was also given more education on my mouth health which when you have my health problems you tend to take seriously. My dentist Lynette also polishes my caps for free whenever she sees me which soon shall be twice a year for a clean. The prices are reasonable for the area and when you do the maths it works out to be $39 a month. I enquired about veneers and paying them off but was told that if I looked after my teeth I wouldn't need to spend all that money. I really think that's great customer service. Highly recommend if you live in the area or surrounding suburbs.

This review is for Yullis Bar, Surry Hills NSW

verified email - 30 Jan 2015

As a vegetarian and sometimes vegan I often find it challenging to find good cafes that cater for me and offer healthy food. I was happy to discover Yulli's several months ago during a google search. I live nearby so I've been several times. There is a separate vegan menu, very friendly service too. The pricing is what you would expect in Surry Hills so it's not cheap but the quality is outstanding. They have a banquet but I haven't tried it yet having only been in by myself or with one other friend. If you are coming for dinner it is best to call and book a table or alternatively turn up for an early lunch or dinner to ensure you get a table!. The staff hand out fantail candies (the ones with the movie trivia on them) when you pay your bill. I think this add's a nice touch. The bathroom deserves a mention; it uses recycled water from the handbasin above to flush the toilet. I'd love to see more restaurants try this!

This review is for ACUPOINT BODY SPIRIT, Sydney NSW

I used to have Chinese massage here regularly when I lived nearby in Chinatown. Recently I've been back but this time it's for acupuncture, cupping and remedial massage as my regular acupuncturist has been away and we've had scheduling difficulties. I always call to book ahead but never a problem getting an appointment. I like value package 3. It's fantastic value. I hadn't had acupuncture in over two months and I had Stephen as my acupuncturist. He is fantastic, checked my tongue, took my pulse, and took a short medical history. I felt very relaxed after. I just had a minor surgery less than a week ago on my left ovary and uterus and had alot of pain. I wanted natural healing and natural pain relief so I saw Stephen again and I already feel so much better. I'll still see my regular acupuncturist but I will come here often for the great service and to see qualified professionals who charge reasonable affordable prices.

This review is for Kepos St Kitchen, Redfern NSW

verified email - 29 Nov 2014

Kepos Street Kitchen has to be one of the most popular cafes in Redfern located very close to Waterloo. There is always a que to get a table on a weekend. The staff are extremely friendly, coffee is excellent and it's hard to pay without also walking out with sweets from the counter. Very original sweets which change regularly.
As a vegetarian/sometime vegan I have limited options for lunch but I always love the cauliflower salad. Breakfast menu offers several vegetarian options but I noticed there are no vegan options which is common with most cafes but a shame as I'd love to go more often if the menu catered a little more for vegans. In saying that however the chef is very creative and the theme is very middle eastern and always tasty.
I haven't been for dinner yet and reservations are recommended. If you want excellent service and good food and don't mind spending an average of $14-!6 per meal it is well worth checking out Kepos Street Kitchen.

This review is for Mad Spuds Cafe, Surry Hills NSW

verified email - 29 Nov 2014

Mad Spuds has to be my favourite cafe on Crown Street. I actually found it ''by accident'' when my friends and I wanted a early dinner. The cafe was almost closed but they let us stay after they were officially closed for business and were nice about it. That made a good impression on me. I've been many times since. There's a great atmosphere, the menu is very impressive, the staff are always friendly and the reasonable prices. Often on the weekends it's very busy and sometimes there is a small wait for a seat. The manager often stops to chat with me and other regular customers. I love the vegan baked potato (spud power) and vegan breakie stack. I also love several of the vegetarian options and the coffee is very good. I've brought many a friend into this cafe whenever we have coffee/lunch catch up's, generally speaking Spuds is my first choice. They never disappoint and I'm happy to support them. Also I believe they are now doing dinner on a Friday and Saturday night although this is not listed on the website and bookings are required. I've trialled the dinner menu and it's really nice. I'm more of a lunch person though.

This review is for Coffee Tea & Me, Redfern NSW

verified email - 29 Nov 2014

Coffee Tea & Me is a small business with a total of four cafes. My review is for the new Waterloo cafe (19 Lachlan Street; not listed on website). I have yet to visit the other locations.
I like to try out new cafes and had been meaning to go to this cafe for awhile. I'm glad I did. Firstly, I love the atmosphere, it's very relaxed and funky. Secondly I love the coffee and the brownies are amazing with really big chocolate chunks in them, just perfect! There's various specials on coffee and bagels and the a good selection of salads. I especially like the vegan salads such as the cous cous salad and the avocado, haloumi toasted bagels. The staff are friendly and I've been a few times now. I'm keen to check out the Redfern cafe too. The salads are very good value at $7.90 each which is rare to find in suburbs so close to the city centre. A good find this cafe, I'll become a regular I'm sure.

This review is for The Short Black Panther, Mortdale NSW

verified email - 23 Nov 2014

I recently moved to Mortdale and had previously only visited SBP once. I had enjoyed the food and service however I was not impressed at the amount of fruit flies hanging around the front counter near the sweets.
Since then I decided to give them another chance and I am now a regular. The prices are in line with city and inner west prices which is the only thing I'd mark them down for and the fact that the fruit flies still linger on hot days despite the food being covered. The premises is clean, the staff are lovely and the food both sweet and savoury is incredible! I especially like the vegan chocolate balls.

It's great having a cafe like this in Mortdale after living in Waterloo over two years I had grown accustomed to cafe living being so close to Redfern and Surry Hills!
