Yeah, pretty much only go when the $2 meals are on. Otherwise, nothing special about the place. Very good quality of food though, and for 2 bucks, you can't go wrong.

There will be a bit of a line though, expect to line up for about 15 mins to get the tickets for the $2 meals.

Good: Delicious rich curries, can go from mild to 10X indian hot (which will dissolve your insides), great range of drinks, unlimited rice.

Bad: Always a single bill, no paying separately.

One of the best curry places in Brisbane. Delicious curries rich and hearty, authentic flavour without the pretense of being old fashioned. This is how curry is supposed to be.

Highly recommended. It is the only place I go to for curry at the moment.

Overpriced.

Was closed down and fined for health concerns by the health inspectors in 2007 after multiple warnings to clean up their act (rat droppings and roaches found in their kitchens, mould etc).

Since then, I have not dared venture there. I remember their food being ok but costing a lot. About $20 per dish (which is pretty high for chinese cuisine).

Conveniently located next to a train station though, as well as a hungry jacks, for those of us who not particularly partial to e.coli.

Went here recently and well... it's not my favourite place.

The curries were uninspiring compared to the fancy decor. The hired help couldn't tell me what was in the dip that I ordered, and the curry came out as a lifeless bowl of schlop garnished with the sediment that was left on the cook's cutting board to look pretty. (seriously, take note of the ugly random sprinkles on every curry)

Unlike every other curry restaurant, the curries here do not come with rice. You must purchase that separately. They are too busy removing the soul out of your curry before serving to be concerned about giving you rice.

I would not return here.

Oh yeah, it's damn expensive too. Look forward to spending at least $20 for sub par curry.

Known to locals as "the pancake church", it is a decent place with FANTASTIC atmosphere! It's a renovated old church building and it feels really comfortable inside. Always nice and warm in winters and cool in summers.

Aside from that though, everything else is par. I mean the food quality is decent, service is decent, prices are decent. From a foodie perspective, not something to rave on about, but admittedly, I do go here often because they're open 24/7 and they have a standard that they stick to and I know exactly what to expect from them, no more, no less.

Not to say their food is bad, because I love their nachos, and they have an excellent selection of crepes(albeit a bit pricey for what they are). Their desert pancakes and waffles are exquisite and decent value (i would probably go in there more for the deserts than the savoury meals).

Overall, I love the atmosphere, appreciate the experience, and enjoy the food. I'm quite happy with this place and hope it doesn't change.

Great gourmet pizza at great student prices.

I don't see how you could go wrong here. The pizzas are better than other gourmet pizza places, and yet cost about half the price. Huge range too.

Sure, comparatively the prices are higher than what the cafeteria charges for the daily mystery schlop on a bed of pasta or rice, but compared to pizza of the same quality off campus, this place is a winner.

It is worth it to make a trip to this place when looking for pizza regardless of whether you go to uni or not.

I'm a fairly critical of food, and careful about what I say when recommending places. But I am willing to say this place has the best pizzas in brisbane for now.

This is the place I usually go to for my servicing. One of the cheapest places in Brisbane to get a roadworthy, and they don't pick on stupid things for older cars. Easy going group of guys, happy to answer questions and give advice.

As far as mechanics go, these guys are pretty honest - they do have the kmart brand backing them so even if they're dodgey, they can't be dodgey dodgey.

My personal experiences with them were all very pleasant.

Tried this one today for the first time. Pleasantly surprised as they provided a decent feed for a good price.

Not a huge range but has everything you'd expect, fish, chips, various other marine life deep fried in batter and crumbed.

I got the platter meal (a bit of everything). They give you fish offcuts instead of whole fillets in it, but the offcuts taste better anyway. You get a lot of food in it (pasta, salad, calamari, prawns, seafood stick, scallops) and it's a good price.

I wouldn't say best calamari by any stretch of the imagination but it's satisfactory. At least it wasn't offensive.

With the ever decreasing value and quality of fish and chips shops these days, this would pass off as one of the better ones.

This review is for A Salt And Battery, St Lucia QLD

Not sure why everyone likes this place. I live down the street to it (walking distance) but will drive to another fish and chips place because a salt and battery is not only expensive, they have flat, flavourless fish and calamari. The only good thing about them is beer battered chips, which I will happily eat but their seafood is seriously lacking. I have given these guys 3 tries over the last 2 years. Time shows no improvement, was disappointed every time.

They rely on the area's wealthy local, and indiscriminate student populations to stay open.

Before I wrote this review I had wondered why so many people are complimenting this place. I guess if you paid exorbitant amounts of money for something, and your other choice is instant noodles, you'd think it was really good too.

I have not tried their burgers.

There are two other fish and chips shops in the area (indro and taringa). I recommend giving those a go instead.
