This review is for Midas Car Care Centre, Port Adelaide SA

I received a promotional flyer in my letterbox which was along the lines of, 'Something wrong with your car but not sure what? Bring it in to Midas for a free inspection and written report'. I booked my vehicle in and asked them to look at the handbrake as it had been disconnected and I wanted a quote as to what exactly was wrong with it and a cost to fix it and one other problem with the car revving highly for no apparent reason. When I went to collect my vehicle I was told that the repairs would be approximately $550 being for the handbrake caliper and the idle up motor but was not supplied with a written report as stated in the flyer. I went to reverse my car out from the workshop but was unable to unless I put my foot rather heavily down on the accelerator so I called over one of the mechanics. He asked if the handbrake was on so I checked and it wasn't so he proceeded to bend down near the rear drivers side and 'banged' something(I'm guessing the handbrake caliper?)and that freed up whatever was stopping me from moving. As a result of them doing whatever it was they did, my vehicles brakes made a continuous scraping noise so I asked a friend who is a mechanic to have a look at it for me and subsequently fixed both problems for me at a cost of only $150(but this was not inclusive of any labour charge). I had another experience with this same Midas quite a few years ago(In approx 1995 so thought I'd give them a second chance with this recent one) where I was told that the brake discs on my Volvo had been machined down to under specifications and was quoted $500 to replace/fix that problem.

I was referred to this business upon recommendation of a friend. I have had two of my cars air conditioning re gassed and the service is always exceptional. The price is pretty much the same as other places would charge but these guys 'go the extra mile' by bringing me home once I've taken my vehicle in and then picking me up when it's ready. I've also been given other advice by them, free of charge and unrelated to the reason my vehicle was in there which has resulted in a fuel saving for me. They have also been the winner of the small business award a few times in recent years and are a Repco Authorised Service Centre and RAA Approved.

This review is for Foodland, Semaphore SA

This is a great little supermarket with excellent weekly specials, friendly helpful staff and usually not too long a wait at their checkouts. One thing I've noticed with this particular Foodland is they also have an area near the entrance to the store with products that are close to their best before dates on sale at a much reduced cost. They also participate in the fuel docket system where if you spend thirty dollars or more in one transaction you get a voucher for four cents off a litre of petrol at participating service stations as well as a discount available every Wednesday for pension card holders.

This review is for Jaalee's Cafe, Semaphore SA

One of the nicest little cafes in the Semaphore area that serves the scrummiest iced chocolates brimming with fresh cream(decadent I know but good when you feel like a treat). I also opted for the chicken and mushroom pastry which was delectable and served with a fresh crisp salad. Although when I saw the super brekkie bought out to another patron, the smell of the bacon was making me wish I'd ordered that instead, but doubt I would've been able to eat it all as it consisted of sausage, eggs, bacon, mushrooms tomato and toast. They also have a delightful little courtyard area out the back for those of us who haven't quite kicked the nicotine habit.

I haven't actually dined there as yet but was a regular every Wednesday night at their karaoke(which has now unfortunately been cancelled due to lack of regular attendees)The staff are fun and friendly, it makes for a great night out and they have dress up nights and competitions occasionally.

This review is for Kmart, Port Adelaide SA

Being a junk mail junkie I always scan all the store catalogues especially when I have a particular purchase in mind. I love the fact that Kmart offers their low price guarantee eg, if you find the same product on sale elsewhere cheaper they will match the price and give you 10% off the difference. I had a situation recently where I decided to invoke the low price guarantee on a couple of items I wanted to buy. Not only was I given 'attitude' by the sales assistant at the checkout for doing so she also suggested that if the items were cheaper elsewhere then why didn't I go and shop there? So as not to be embarrassed any further I quietly finalised my purchases and upon arriving home lodged an online complaint about not only the service, or lack there of, I also suggested that their staff be given the proper training as to how to correctly process a low price request from a customer as I have had other occurances where the extra 10% off the difference has not been credited.

This review is for Dockside Tavern, Port Adelaide SA

I was taken to the Dockside for mothers day lunch. Not only was the food fresh and tasty it was very reasonably priced, one of the best pub meals I've had in a long time especially taking into consideration the price. The service was fast friendly and efficient as it felt like we had no sooner returned from the bar from getting our drinks and the food was there.

Approximate cost: $6.50

Last night was the second time in 3 weeks I have eaten a whopper from this outlet. The meat always tastes burnt and the burger is lukewarm at best, not hot as it's supposed to be, the tomato almost always has the hard central core in it, the lettuce is wilted and what's with the huge chunks of onion? On the bright side, the fries have always been hot, crispy and fresh tasting.

Approximate cost: $6.80
