Allan's Bakery & Cakes Cafe always has lovely, fluffy sponges to their cakes, unlike other places where you know right after biting in that it has been sitting there for too long. The cheesecakes are just as yummy and they offer several types. The flavours in their cakes can be surprisingly complex, with a personal favourite being the combination of vanilla, milk, strawberry and mango brule. A love of taro means also that the taro pastries at the Hurstville store are an answer to a craving.

My friend and I often have coffee here and also buy various breads, bread rolls, cakes and pies. The coffee is great - as are the cakes. Prices are very reasonable and there's always plenty of different ones to choose from. The pies are really good - again there's different types and fillings as well as the good ole plain meat pie filled with real meat and plenty of it. Yum! They also have the usual range of breads - as well as some not so usual. Like today I went there a little late and couldn't get a wholemeal loaf but there was an oatmeal one - it tastes fine and is nice for a change. The people serving are always friendly and helpful and the service is pretty quick. Highly recommended!

Service here is so very very bad.
I stood at the counter for almost 10 minutes while two staff members worked on decorating cakes. They didnt even take three seconds of their day to stop and say- be with you in a minute or call someone over to help.
The food range is wide but really not very tasty. The sausage rolls and meat pies are bland and the sweets have awful tweaks added that ruin the flavours like a previous reviewer mentioned (orange in the hedgehog etc)
I think the workers who make the food must be completely inexperienced or they might just be cheap on the ingredients

Not sure if it was only the day that i went there, but the products didn't really live up to what i expected. I bought an onion and cheese pie from memory and a sausage roll. Also a hedgehog slice. The sausage roll was HUGE! and very heavy. It was ok, but nothing hugely exciting. The pie i liked less again, the main problem being that the onion in it was huge chunks of onion, on the top of the meat inside, and the meat just tasted run-of-the-mill. The hedgehog slice was far too soft, and had a hint of what tasted like orange essence in it, but i could be wrong. I wasn't a fan. It's not a bad bakery that's for sure, but certainly not my cup of tea. It's a shame as it looked and smelt great! They had a good selection of cakes in there too in a separate section of their big L-shaped bakery.

I am amazed at their range of cake decorating supplies! I walked in looking for special gel colouring that I needed, to colour some fondant that I was making for my son's birthday cake. The staff served me immediately, offering helpful advice as well.

I was even more surprised at the counter, as the purchase price was much less than I expected to pay!

Very pleased with the old-fashioned courteous and helpful customer service I received.

Food is decent quality but the prices are astronomical!
Definitely NOT value for money, eg. one piece of ordinary tasting caramel slice is almost $4!
The quality of food in no way makes up for the excessive pricing. Sausage rolls and pies are not very nice but the other hot food is nice enough.
Positives: The range of food is fairly wide. Also staff are very lovely but really slow.

Approximate cost: $20

We went and had breakfast there the other day. The offer Bacon and Eggs and Pancakes both are fantastic and are at an affordable price. They also have pies, cakes etc. A well rounded place for everything. Great service and good atmosphere.
