Have only had dinner here once, but found the food and service both to be great. Had a really good time and was quite affordable for what we wanted to spend.

Ballarat's hidden secret. What a pleasurable experience, the service was nearly as good as the food which was excellent. Golden Plate award would do it justice. Wine selection limited to good wines. We will definitely return and highly recommend to Ballarat visitors and locals.

Lovely subtle flavours making it a definite stand out, especially for Ballarat. Staff were friendly, helpful and really new their menu well. Went with the personal favourites of our waitress, including the eggplant entree (exceptional), the yakiniku and the sweet pork belly. Just great. Good portion sizes and faultless service although ordering drinks proved a little challenging at times! Will definitely be making this a favourite and coming back with friends.

What can I say but wow, wow, wow.
Wow for the service. It was everything I would have expected from a restaurant like Asahi. From the second we walked in we were treated with the upmost respect and given paramount service. Wow for the food. The presentation was divine, and flavours and freshness could not have been better. We will absolutley return agan.

We are regulars of Asahi, and whilst not expert in Japanese cuisine, we consistently enjoy our meals and experience there.
Favourite dishes include the vegetable tempura, nasu degaku, kani croquette, miso soup, moriawase platter, teriyaki and yakitori. Always leave room for ice-cream - both the green tea and bacl sesame are divine.
We recently took some friends who had not eaten Japanese before and are not diverse eaters, and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals.
Looking forward to our next meal there.

What a fantastic restaurant!

My partner and I both agree that it is by far the nicest quality food and service we have experienced in any Japanese restaurant (if not any restaurant overall). The interior is beautifully yet simply decorated and the furniture is all comfortable. The service is welcoming and always friendly - not at all intimidating or snobbish as in some businesses.

Last night was our first experience with Asahi, but it definitely won't be the last! We tried the kani croquette and agedashi tofu for entree, moriawase (sushi and sashimi selection) and tempura prawns with wasabi mayonnaise for mains and both the green tea and black sesame ice cream for dessert.

Every dish was wonderfully presented, from the arrangement of the meal itself to the dishes they were served on.

The Japanese beer and sake is a different and very satisfying addition to the menu, and I would recommend it to anybody who is yet to experience it.

I can't wait to come back for more - the wonderful food and exquisite service far surpassed my expectations and I could not be more pleased.

I had never been to a japanese restaurant before, and my first experience was amazing! I had the group banquet with my friends, even though we were a relatively small group. This meant I was able to sample a wide range of the menu, and it was all delicious! Even if the thought of sashimi is a bit strange, go in with an open mind and you will definitely discover that you enjoy something different!
