This is a really world class store. I've travelled the world and always come back to David Jones to buy the special things I want. The good thing is if you find a cheaper price they will match it. Their household area is really lovely.

I love David Jones. Their specials are fantastic, only problem is they don't advertise them that much. But when they do I am there spending up. The enjoy the variety more than other department stores.

This David Jones is in an ideal location on two sides of the Bourke Street Mall  and is an amazing store. This store has soul and heart, it's our Harrods or Sax on Fifth, the service is great.

After having bought a Christmas gift card for my mother who I knew would love to go shopping at David Jones. I was incredibly shattered to find out that the gift card that was sold to me was "inactive" meaning $0 when my sister, mother and I decided to use it 3 days after Christmas. In my heart, I had a bad feeling as when I had bought my gift card the staff member at young fashion department had swiped the gift card initially with a (large sum of money which for public purposes I will not disclose) but as she was about to write the amount, had decided that the card was faulty and proceeded to grab another card writing the amount on the second card and not swiping it on the register, reassuring me that the receipt would be enough to purchase with the gift card. Unfortunately, I had given her the benefit of the doubt as it was Christmas time and was nice enough to believe this person.

However, I am so incredibly disappointed in the service my family received when we took this matter to customer service and were told nothing could be done as the receipt does not match the gift card I was given and that the gift card on the receipt was used up on Christmas Eve (at this point I was so upset that my gift which was intended for my mother was enjoyed by a heartless thief staff member who deceived me).

The matter was not resolved until we spoke to another manager to investigate the matter (who had taken the gift card, why the card was used by someone other than myself (it was obvious that the David Jones employee was the only one that knew the amount on the card swapped it with an empty card) ...eventually this manager was sympathetic to our situation and replaced my stolen card.

This does not excuse the behavior of an employee and who isn't to say this will not happen to someone else. At the moment the investigation is still in process but I would really like to know who would be cruel enough to spend a customer's gift... it is definitely really sad that people can be so selfish.

This incident has my family off from shopping in David Jones forever, especially myself who have been a loyal customer for 20 years...sad.

This place is huge!!! There are staff everywhere who are friendly and helpful.
This place is definitely worth a look - especially in the shoe department. They are by no means cheap, but for the most part are very good quality. They have a lot of great stuff

JUST RATING THE FOODHALL:
A very wide range and quality selection of foods ranging from chocolates, dairy, hams, preserves etc.
However, everything is marked up more than usual - expect to pay 15-20% more for an item of the same grade (eg. Ham) that you could get for a more competitive price at a quality gourmet deli/foodstore
I can understand and perhaps forgive, where the item is of special branding/character ie. Fortnum & Masons fruit preserve.
But a round takeaway plastic tub of fruit salad (yes - takeaway, no service, though you can sit and eat in the bustle of the foodhall if you so wish)
costed me $7.50 recently.
Bottom line - Foodhall is overrated.
Use them by all means, if you are after something that only DJ has (due to special supplier arrangements)
But if it is something that a specialist/gourmet foodstore could provide you with - save yourself some money and support the local store!

Expensive is one way to put it. It's too big but it looks nice. They kind of think they are Australia's answer to Harrods of London.

Quality - David Jones does makes you feel that everything is all about quality as soon as you step in. I reckon it is too.
Service - I have some people that told me, the staff are rude. I have not experience it before, they seem very friendly and know what they are talking about. Quite professional in their own area.
Value - You can find alot of brands that you won't find elsewhere in just one store. You can always match the price if you bought something elsewhere cheaper, but I don't think they will better the price though. The prices of majority of the items can be a little more expensive then other places. So You have to know how much you should be paying for. Can't say is a value for money store.
Overall- I am quite happy with my shopping experience here, they also have renovated and added other brands.

Whenever l go shopping at David Jones l cannot explain how special l feel. It makes you feel so calm, relaxed and the service is wonderful with sales assistance providing all the information you need to make your shopping experience more special.
