I thought I had made a good decision purchasing a Dell computer but if you have a problem with it expect the worst follow up/warranty service you can imagine. Seven months on I have a $3,000 investment in a slow, unreliable, piece of junk that gives me blue screen on a regular basis. It's called a Dell Studio 540. With a huge memory capacity and fast processor I should have a good machine but I do not. The last time I spoke to Dell in India or was it the Philippines, I was told to get a screwdriver and remove the cover, then take out each of the memory cards to test for a faulty card. Any other appliance or machine manufactories would void your warranty should you tinker with their product. Not Dell. I am yet to attempt to pull the cover off as IT technician is not on my resume.
This is the fourth computer I have owned since 1990 and never encountered or heard of this type of technical support. If your warranty says 'next business day on site service' which my Dell warranty does, READ THE SMALL PRINT. Dell tells me this is part of the diagnostic testing I agreed to in my warranty. I still can't find any mention of get a screwdriver and take your Dell computer apart and you figure out what is wrong with it. Oh, and just because there is a dell.com.au do not expect to get a local response. I got passed around to EIGHT different voices on the end of the phone this week when I again found some energy to call Dell looking for a way to repair this piece of garbage.
Buy local; check the warranty and make sure you read the fine print. Save yourself the grief I am experiencing from a Dell purchase. Do not go there.

Hi RobynM, thanks for adding your comments to the mix, although we must say that the reviews on here (and other websites) do little to encourage us to purchase any Dell product either now or in the future. We were more than a little gob-smacked at the advice you were given by Dellâ??s so-called â??customer serviceâ??, as following such direction would have indeed voided your warranty, as you had assumed. Given the amount of money paid for the item (and warranty), it is beyond disgraceful that you would be forced into this position. At the end of the day, almost anyone can sell an item and glean a positive review, but it is when things go wrong that show what a business is really made of. When it comes to a respectable level of customer service, we look for a business who deals with the consumer in an honest, individual and empathetic manner however the business in question appears to fall (woefully) short on all the afore-mentioned elements. We will be one of the many families going out of their way to avoid Dell. Thank you kindly for the heads-up! Regards, Reeces

Purchased Dell 2209WA. Monitor is amazing, great colour, brilliant viewing angle. Was shipped to me promptly. Monitor price point was excellent; only slightly more expensive than neighboring 22" TN panels.

Very affordable and sleek looking computers. The trouble is that they can only really be serviced by a Dell technician and its really pricey. Still bought a computer and it was easy to add specifications and delivery didn't take too long.

Puchased a Dimension 5150 with a multifunction printer. All worked well until after about three months computer crashed because the soundcard software conflicted with computer. The other thing that goes against the printer is the cost of the ink cartridges and that you have to buy them Dell and they are not available anywhere else.

I have had excellent service from Dell. My friend in Texas USA sent me a desktop but unfortunately it was the wrong voltage we use here in Australia, After contacting Dell Australia they gave me a new 19" Flat Screen Monitor from a 17" and also gave me a speaker system with Woofer as I only had the basic system, no questions asked. I then had problems not having all the software that was suppose to come with it, they sent it out with a technical person to download what should have been on the computer, they also gave me an additional 80gig hard drive everything given to me was in goodwill and I have had no problems ever since

Found a link on ozbargains that said dell had computers for sale for approx $300. Went in, filled out required info and paid via credit card as per their web page and all the credentials they required and then said that it was a mistake and that they will refund the money. Very unimpressed. Why let you fill out that much info and get through the checkout preceedure and then back pedal.

Hi LeighM, certainly not a great way to conduct business however surely this would be deemed to be an issue with Ozbargains and not Dell themselves. Afterall, Dell have more than enough complaints to deal with! Regards, Reeces

Bought an inspiron from them and had to return the battery as it died within a year. Overall good build but not the best quality and not the sexiest laptop. Still working!
