Totally disappointed in result - it’s not an improvement and I’m $14,000 poorer - it’s just a carport not a professionally designed verandah - it’s off centre and looks ridiculous plus it’ll cost me more to repair now - totally my fault I should have gotten another quote.

Have no idea where to start. Only good part was getting the job done. Paid the 10% deposit April last year. Got asked the 50% deposit a month later. Was advised no more fees, only thing would be a permit if we need one since we were building closer to the fence line (this will be important later). Then heard nothing till September last year saying got through to the developers. Then get a email a few days later asking if I have the developers details, even though was told they already have the developers email. Had 50 odd emails exchanged between allanah and myself with phone calls on top from September onwards. The job kept on getting delayed heaps. Same excuse as always covid has impacted the job and can't get through to the developers. But nothing was manufactured yet. All they had to do was send emails and phone calls. No travel included. On top of that I was initially told they need council approval to do the build. But then was told they need developer approval. More and more issues came up saying waiting on developer responds weeks on end. Told them I want to back out of the job since I was still waiting and lost interest on the money they had at the time which could of accumulated in my bank account. Next minute they decided to do something and send the plans to the developer in November last year. Then get told there will be a delay for the approval from the developer. One month later get approval after the plans were incorrect and had to send them again. Next thing is I get a email saying they had to pay council permit fees, even though was advised when first signing I won't need to pay more fees and the job was approved through the DEVELOPERS not the council. I refused to pay it and considering I have been waiting ages for the verandah. Allanah said ok. Everything was ready to go in JANUARY. ask for the job to be done by Australia day and get told can't be done because all jobs for January were booked previous week. I was not happy, after a phone call and email a few days later got a build date and was finally done for 25th of January and finished on 26th of January. After job was done had a look and found freshly painted deck few days back with concrete powder and mud on it. Dried concrete on the fire pit area. They also left dirt pile on the grass in the front yard for me to remove myself. THE VERY NEXT DAY they call me asking for final payment. Amazing how they want payment instantly but when I ask questions about the job and get the ring around. But it got done. Now today I get a email asking for council fee payment. Even though said I will not pay it previously. Over all it took way too long for the job (April 2021 - end of January 2022) if I knew this I would of went else where. Just a heads up for others

They did a truly terrible job
Approximate cost: $13000
Don't waste you hard earned money with this company.
Terrible service, still waiting for "council approval" after 2.5 months from paying the deposit because their own conveyancer didn't make it clear to council what was being built even though we have received council approval. I'm starting the be concerned that this company is struggling financially to complete my job even though I have paid 70% of the quoted price. I can't think of any other reason why I am having so much trouble getting my veranda built - it's definitely not the council holding up the process!
Very unprofessional. 6 months and still nothing. Call numerous times and got the run around.
Approximate cost: $8400
Dishonest company. Way over priced and sub contractors that just want to bang it up in a day and move on. Don't fall for their high pressure sales tricks like I did... they are crooks!
Approximate cost: $35000
JUST DON'T DO IT YOU WILL GET BURNED IN PRICE IN WORKMANSHIP AND ON THE BUILDING PERMIT AND WHEN YOU FIND OUT YOU BEEN BURNED LIKE I DID THEY JUST DON'T CARE AND GIVE YOU THE RUNAROUND AS THE SAYING GOES LEARN FROM OTHER PEOPLES MISTAKES AND DON'T RISK YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY.
Very happy with the service. Obviously we have payed more than in Stratco DIY , but I don't have time or skills to deal with councils, developers , easements etc. Plus install it, so was happy to leave it to professionals.
Veranda looks neat and Stratco product defends itself anyways.
Installer were very helpful and even added additional skylight when I decided I would like to have more light.

Had a quote done 2 weeks ago, this was a second quote as we got another from the manufacturer (Stratco) Install a Verandas quote was far too expensive.
The sales lady was lovely to begin with but when we said we would think about it and get back to her if we want to go ahead she promptly got up and left!
Basically they want both parties present to sign and pay a deposit on the spot even at quote stage!
My husband and I do not take kindly to being pushed into signing something without having time to discuss.
If anyone reading this takes one thing away from my review please be careful and do not be baffled by bs.
Go directly with the manufacturer like we did and get much more value for money. The builder is the one who quotes and is not a salesperson with pushy sales techniques.
Stratco price $38,000 as opposed to Install a Veranda’s $43,000!!!
Approximate cost: $43000
Simply, don’t use these guys.
It’s been 7 months and the work is still not complete. They have had to pull down the carport and veranda because they were not built to plan. This was after numerous emails and excuses ranging from council changing the permits, to new boundary laws in place. After I sent them a lengthy emails with laws and regulations, had council on the phone with them the rebuilt. They knew all along they were being dishonest, they thought they get away with it. A gutter was replaced 3 times because of a dent that was very prominent and they were hoping I wouldn’t notice. Second and third time due to length, again they played dumb when I asked why the gutter wasn’t sitting flush against my house. The entire 6 m of the veranda leaked and they had to come a repair. There were numerous other lies they told me, including asking me pay a permit that council confirmed wasn’t required.
As stated above, the job is still not complete, and for very good reason, I am holding onto the balance until it is.
My recommmendation is measure everything, call council if you are unsure, don’t pay these guys for a week after the job has been completed (even with a signed contract) because you will be finding errors long after.
Stand your ground and don’t be scared to say no.

I would never use this company. Poor quality of workmanship. Very unprofessional and don’t seem to care about fixing up mistakes that have been made they just try a go with a quick fix !
Our experience with this company mirrors the complaints of the writers above. It starts with a slick high pressure sales team offering large discounts on very expensive quotes as long as a 10% deposit is paid immediately.
Normally we would stay clear of such obvious shonks but the Stretco name was of some comfort and we agreed bto pay $21000 for a roof over our patio.
The engineer came out a week later and made a drawing on the back of an envelope and took another $9000. ( Severe misgivings )
We had the delays referred to by previous writers due to " materials unavailable " etc but the roof was finished ( taking double the time promised ) in February 2017. It was installed by a person who described himself as an ex chippie with the assistance of two untrained labourers.
Footings were 40 cm instead of 60 cm because of rock but I accepted their assurance of the structural integrity and in truth so far so good, fingers crossed.
Again the final payment was required before they packed up their tools and I paid as promised.
Problem is now that the darn thing leaks at two points along the gable and after a series of calls after I submitted a warranty claim I have been unsuccessful in getting them to fix it.
The reason for the leaks is that they cut two sheets short and the only attempt to fix it has been the ex chippie came back once with a tube of silicone and sealed some screw heads.
Since this wasn't the problem the leaks have continued and now the company has blanked me out.
Despite a number of phone calls and promises galore I have had a zero response from anyone in authority.
For heaven's sake who wants to trash their reputation for a couple of sheets of laser light and half an hour work for a repair crew?
Does Stretco read these reviews and if so are they embarrassed?
Do me a favour, Install a Veranda, and don't put a mealy mouth superficial response on this page. Don't tell me my how you appreciate the feedback and ask me to phone you with details to help you resolve the problem. I just might throw up. James O'Flaherty
My experience was just over the phone, appt made and consultant calls me 2 hours before, i'm in the area can we come see you now ?.. i'm like no because i cant drop things at work and leave. So he starts off saying based on size of decking it's $50k, double what full wood decking would be.. i dont recommend you do it.. just go with wood [elsewhere] He starts to descriminate based on where one would live.. like if you live in Brighton or Burwood you could probably afford to do it. What right does he have to assume we couldnt afford to do it.. along with a verandah. It just sounded like if we couldnt accommodate him right then he doesnt want the business. I'm happy to give our business elsewhere and guess what.. we have multiple properties.. including one in Burwood and no i wont consider this business in the future and i'm surprised they are still in business with that sort of attitude !

Had a carport installed by this company in 2011 and just recently had a storm water down pipe replaced that went through the roof of carport, plumber couldn't stop it from leaking around the join through roof during rain. Rang Install a Verandah, explained the problem, they sent out one of their installers and fixed the leak and that's 6 years after installation. Great job, never had any problem with this company very helpful. John Brundell. Sunbury Vic.
Thanks John for the time to review us.
We offer 15 years structural guarantee and 10 years workmanship guarantee.
We hope you are enjoying your outdoor area.

I had a similar problem to those below. Quoted $10,500 on a one day, one person job, ( salesmans quote) where the materials were$2000, ( quote supplied by stratco. When asked to explain the price, i was told, " leases on cars, leases on offices etc". He finished by saying " i know where this is going" packed his bag and walked out.
I do not understand why Stratco would recommend or want to be associated with this company

very happy with the results of a carport installed. Matches house and good professional work. Every person who came to do their appointed task was very helpful and considerate. Build was done in half a day.
Thank you for your positive feedback. we hope you are enjoying your outdoor area and look forward with dealing with you in the future.

Install a veranda came out, quoted me $28,000.00 to install a veranda at my house. When questioned the rep tried to justify the cost. In the process he insulted my mother in-law, saying she could pay for half of it out of her pension. The total cost of materials would have come to $3,000 tops, so that would make installation costs $25,000, I don't think so. I would never recommend this company, even the footings were to shallow and would blow away in a strong wind according to an architect/ engineer is showed the paperwork to. I would rate this company as a minus 100.

Dishonesty at the highest level. Sales rep told me Instal A Veranda would pay the interest. I signed the deal and I am charged over $220 interest per month. Been chasing and noone gets back. Each time I call I am told it will be fixed. On 8th December 2016 sales reptold me that the Accounts Manager was looking into my case and things were moving . Today is 1st January 2017 No updates no feedback no phone call yet another 220 dollars added onto my account. Install A Veranda lied to me sbout interest free so that I go into an agreement.. $22,000.00 outdoor area. you whats so difficult about keeping it hobest. At one time they told me to go to the Ombudsman with my complain against the credit company. Its not the credit company at fault its Install A Veranda who promissed thyey will pay the interest. Sales rep sounded professiobal at the selling point but i now see it was a trick to sell the product. I am sure someone is enjoyibg a fat bonus and I am paying for it.

Absolutely dreadful company. I had a veranda installed in 2012. I just went to have a section 32 written up and was advised that no final inspection paperwork was ever completed. I've called install a veranda 8 times now to have the issue rectified and every time, one of the receptionists says either they'll have someone call me back in 5 minutes or by the end of the day. But no one ever calls back and no final inspection paperwork has turned up. [Retracted generalisation] . Steer clear of them.
Hi Sharon, we are having the same issue. How did you resolve it?
Hi Sharon,
All our Building Permits are followed up by a compulsory Final Inspection Certificate.
We are sorry there was a delay in your case and hope you are enjoying your outdoor area.
Kind regards,
Install A Veranda
Yes certified by dodgee surveyors you engage, there is a long list of suspensions to their name that are longer than my arm...
I am not well so I will keep this short. This is the most unpleasant company I've ever had to deal with. I ordered the Pergola in November 2015. I got a letter dated 22/01/2015 stating an installation date of 3-4/3/2016. I was told I needed to keep this appointment date as a change would delay the installation. I took time off work as annual leave only to be told by Install A Veranda on the 10/2/2016 that they needed to change the date due to delay with getting material. I got a new installation date of 8-9/3/2016. Again, I organised to be home for the installation. I received another letter saying there was a problem getting material and I was given a new installation date (19/3/16).
Installation could not be completed on that day due to the roof panels being the wrong size. I had to wait for new ones to be made.
After the installation, the verandah is now leaking around the edges and I have been in contact with Install a Verandah for about a month to get the problem fixed but to no avail. I keep getting told that they will fix it but I am still waiting (since 10th of May 2016). I am quite stressed by all this.
Hi Andy,
We are dedicated to providing a quality service from start to end and are regretful that you have not experienced 5 star service and will use this feedback to make improvements.

I'd give these guys a zero rating and after reading all their complaints above and experiencing their poor service I give Install-A-Veranda a zero star. I can certainly empathize with all the complaints and experience of those unhappy in these reviews for Install-A-Veranda.
First off Install-A-Veranda are not based anywhere near Moonee Ponds. They have been based in Tullamarine, once up near Glenroy and now Port Melbourne. Why not use those addresses versus portraying association with Moonee Ponds.
Our poor experience sounds very similar to a lot of the complaints in this forum. To resolve our issue we had to involve our family and Victorian Consumer Affairs had to get involved to resolve the issue.
The earlier complaint above around the pitch of the roof and having it run back to the house is similar to our situation and our experience.
The process is first off their salesman agrees to your request, oversells and over promises and then you pay their deposit. The salesman poorly fills out their pro forma contract: writes less than necessary and verbally agrees to your request.
Then begins the parade of different Install-A-Veranda staff and contractors - who come measure, drop off product (Stratco) and then install.
In our case, what was delivered and installed was not what was asked.
Then became a 5 month battle. The receptionist (again - similar to above complaints) over promised response like "we'll call you back in an hour" and then do not follow up. This went on for around 2 weeks.
I then sought advice from Victorian Consumer Affairs who knew of this company. They gave advice through writing letters which then prompted a response from Install-A-Veranda.
Through using Consumer Affairs we were able to force Install-A-Veranda to visit the property to discuss the difference to what was ordered and what was delivered.
Consumer Affairs accompanied us in one visit and were brilliant. They explained the challenge we faced through what appeared to be a process Install-A-Veranda use to get out of providing customer service.
Install-A-Veranda use a pro forma contract template which they fill poorly. As soon as a complaint comes and in our case: they repeatedly said 'but you've signed our contract'.
Consumer Affairs had sympathy with us but noted that the contract is the defining document a court would review and in this case - it could be interpreted either way. In the end, they did point out that the contract could have been better written and filled in and suggested a compromise. Ideally we wanted a full refund although Consumer Affairs said that could be difficult.
Install-A-Veranda in the end made an adjustment to the veranda which improved the situation although was still not what was asked. We had to accept the outcome as the item had been paid for and obtaining a refund would be a difficult challenge.
A very unprofessional company who basically just middle men Stratco product installations. Just go straight to Stratco versus using these crooks. Ironically, after resolving the issue I found a flyer for install-A-Veranda in my mail box which went straight in the bin.
Look at each reply from Install-A-Veranda to each complaint posted. Their replies begin with "Install a Veranda takes seriously every customer complaint or concern whether that ends up as a review on a website or not. We work hard to not have any issues but the reality is ...."
The reality is that these guys are small time vendors with very poor service. I was surprised that when I did complain their response was very well rehearsed. Goes to show - they must get many complaints and have significant experience in how to respond and avoid service.
Avoid Install-A-Veranda. Use a brand that have more respect for their brand, name and their customers.
I asked for a quote for a patio roof. Salesman was out the next day, very polite, professional and sincere. I decided on the spot to accept the quote...what a mistake that was. Paid deposit. I had to stay home 3 times for the Production Manager to do his final measure. When he finally did turn up, he wanted to change the pitch of the roof and run it back towards the house, which is not want I wanted. I phoned him back the following day, he wasn't available to talk to me so I sent him an email...unanswered. Called the company again and asked to speak to the Manager, she wasn't available. Told the receptionist my concerns, she said she would get back to me in half an hour. I rang back the next day, same receptionist said not to worry, just tell the builders to build it the way you want it!!! Materials arrived and put on the front lawn. Builders turned up, really nice guys, I told them they had to run the roof away from the house. They were gob-smacked. They had not been told. After 3 hours of phone calls between the builders and the Company, plus me on the phone to a lawyer friend, I told them to pack up their tools, take their materials and leave. Poor builders had been flown up to the Gold Coast from Melbourne to do my job. They were not at all impressed with Install A Verasndah. It took me weeks and weeks, plus a solicitors letter to get back my deposit, but I still had all the materials on my front lawn. Another dozen phone calls, every time a different story why it hadn't been picked up by Stratco. I followed up every story I was told, and was informed by Stratco that they hadn't been asked to pick it up. Stratco were wonderful to deal with, kind, helpful and courteous. But the materials sat and sat. It has been 3 months now, I have threatened to take it to the tip if it isn't picked up this week, but I'm not holding my breath. PLEASE, don't entertain the idea of using this firm, they will cause you grief and stress. They should not be in business, I doubt if they even are in business. Other than the Sales Rep who first called on me, and the 2 Melbourne based builders, the rest of them are dis-honest, lying mongrels.

Dear Jenniey,
Install a Veranda takes seriously every customer complaint or concern whether that ends up as a review on a website or not. We work hard to not have any issues but the reality is we do have rare instances, usually around a sincere miss meeting of minds on exactly how the design would look for a particular job once we start installing.
We genuinely believe we have the best sign off, and double check processes in veranda building in Australia. With every job after the client signs off with our design consultants, we have another appointment on a separate day with our Quality & Check measure manager to sign off on the specific millimetre measurements that will be used to manufacture the custom made materials.
In the vast majority of cases this works really well and our clients get what they requested in a timely and professional way. To put it in some perspective Install a Veranda installs approximately 800 -1000 verandas a year and since this review site has its oldest review on Install a Veranda in 2009 we would have installed up to 3000 verandas in that time for families in VIC & QLD. It doesn’t excuse this poor review or any other now or in the future but we just wanted to provide some perspective and hope it’s taken in good faith.
Below is what we did specifically with this job to rectify the situation, sorry it has taken so long for us to respond on this website and will respond quicker to any online reviews in the future.
The final measurements were taken with the client and the Quality & Check Measure Manager to provide a detailed drawings which were signed off on with the client. This drawing was used to manufacture the materials at Stratco QLD.
A week later the client emailed a design query online and our Design Consultant contacted the client within 24 hours to discuss the issues and they were happily resolved on this day.
Installation was organised and agreed to, we received a phone call on the day of the installation and the client sent our installers off the property as they were not happy with the fact that we needed to remove some of the tin tiles to install the riser brackets in that process.
We left the site and 3 weeks later we received a cancellation of job, the materials that were custom made for the property and of limited use without cutting down and trying to use at future jobs were removed from the property at our loss and the client was given a full refund.
We didn’t dispute or try and argue Install a Veranda’s rights as our aim was to do what the client wanted even if it cost us financially.
This chronology is not an attempt to prove points or be correct, because either way Install a Veranda’s process failed because the client was unhappy. The bottom-line is we are professionals in this industry and should be better at communicating clearly to make sure these cross wires do not happen.
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope all has gone well with the project.
we had a stratco veranda installed at our home $16000 dollars, they are the worst company we have ever come across, we paid them for a permit in December 2011, veranda installed Feb 2012, they did not obtain the building permit, nor did they use correct downpipes cheap round water pipes were used with blue glue all over them roof is all lifting up, veranda is short at both ends, we went to a solicitor, would never recommend these guys ever Rude and they dont return calls.
Approximate cost: $16000
Hello, we never had the problem with Install a veranda fixed , we had to obtain our own permit and engineers report, and pay for this out of our own pocket, we made a complaint to the building commission and install a veranda were fined, of course we ended up out of pocket, when the time comes for us to sell our property we have to add this info to our section 32 once they have your money they just DO NOT care
Thanks for responding. They just keep saying they will take care of it but it appears they are stalling hoping we go away. It's been months and now the council is on our back. Should I go building commission or consumer affairs?
contact the building commision in your state
I had a verandah installed recently, very happy with the whole process and finished product! Office staff very helpful and polite, sales consultant was thorough and actually beat a couple of quotes I have got and the tradesmen were very professional and did a great job.
Overall a very pleasant experience and will be recommending this company to my friends!
Approximate cost: $14000
We had two verandahs installed by this trader, one at the front and one at the back of our house. The skylight section in the back verandah has been sagging due to heavy rains recently, causing excess water spilling down onto the concrete.
The back verandah roof was built with no slant, thus not allowing for any excess drainage to occur.
Trying to contact them to come back and fix it has been a nightmare!!! We waited at home twice when a time and day was arranged and they didn't show up.
Eventually I asked to speak to the manager who refused to communicate with me on the phone and I was told she would ring me back. After nothing happened there, I passed a message through the receptionist that I was going to submit a report to the Victorian Consumer Affairs Tribunal.
A liitle time later I received a phone call stating a time and date when the verandah was going to be fixed.
Fortunately someone came and fixed it for us and solved the problem.
I would be very careful if considering this trader for installing your verandahs. If installation is done properly and everything works fine, there isn't a problem. When it comes to calling them back, it has been a stressful process. Once they have your money, that's it. We paid almost $11.000 to them and it has taken us almost two months to get this far. Just be careful!!!

First of all we just want to sincerely apologise for your upset and we could have managed the process much better & quicker. We now have a full time Quality & Check measure manager to be better at responding to issues like this if they do arise.
There were issues with sagging/correct amount of roof fall that were our errors. We have since fixed those buy purchasing more materials at our cost and adjusted the roof fall.
It wasn’t good enough and please if you have further concerns we will get out there ASAP and try and turn around what has been a poor experience for you.
Again we are sorry.
Thank you so much for your reply to my review and I appreciate that you took the time to read it. I just wanted to say that eventually our verandah was eventually fixed and it looks wonderful.
I personally think reviews are a good way to provide feedback to others who may have had a similar experience.
We can certainly inderstand that there are many verandahs installed in a year and that the staff would be execptionally busy, that's okay.
It's just that we thought we would never hear back from you ever again after several attempts of trying numersous times to contact you, otherwise we would have been quite happy to wait.
I sincerley hope things will be better with your new Quality and Check Manager and I thank you for taking the time to apologise.
I had a Carport and Patio installed by Install A Verandah, and it has been a nightmare trying to get things fixed that they have stuffed up. They broke 2 roof tiles (one is a ridge cap), used PVC pipe(two lengths with a joiner in it) for a downpipe which was meant to be metal. They has cut the steal beams two short so the bogged it with filler, end caps dont fit. In a whole a real bad job.

Problem fxed, but it 3 nths and the threat of legal action. Roof still not the best, but should be waterproof

First of all sorry for making the process a bad one for you, your concerns were fair and correct. Our understanding is we have since replaced the tiles and rectified your concerns with the job. If you are still not satisfied we are happy to come and and do what it takes to deal with your concerns.
In regards to the use of downpipes all the Design Consultants are supposed to show full samples of materials used including the downpipes and should have been discussed with our Design Consultant who attended your property when you received your quote. Samples of materials used are supposed to be shown at all appointments. We are open to the fact that in this instance you’re saying you didn’t see or understand that the PVC would be used as a downpipe connector and we apologise for that. PVC downpipes are used because our clients didn’t like the colorbond/metal downpipes look when they were fabricated with lots of twist and turns/angles as downpipes often are and PVC pipes have custom angles fittings that look much neater.

They were to install a small flat roof veranda over our decking to which they did and they didnt seal it properly so it leaks everywhere, they put in a downpipe that wasnt ordered or meant to go in and the downpipe was wrong color and round instead of square like ours. They joined pipe with plastic pvc with blue glue all over the pipe! They keep saying they want to fix it but they never will come when we are home always expect us to leave work and meet them there. Make a time to come and then cancel it! The installers also instead of asking to use my toilet urinated all over my wall next to my pool while i was standing there!
The lady in the office told me to stop bringing that up she is over hearing about him weeing in my yard they have told him not to do it again and i need to drop it cos she is sick of hearing about it! Still not fixed so who knows when or if it will ever be fixed!
Approximate cost: $5000
Here Here, i agree with you, Install-A-Verandah are S#@t ! I have spent over $20000 on a carport and rear patio and they have broken roof tiles, edbog to fill n where hey cut the stll o short, used PVC pipes for downpipes when i was meant to be steal and even used two lenths with a joiner in it.. I have been fighing with them to get several things fixed for over 8 weeks now. I have given them 2 weeks to fix it or i am telling Stratco about the poor work they do and then i will be going to VCAT to get compensaion from them to get it fixed by a real company !!!
Dear Sidey,
Install a Veranda takes seriously every customer complaint or concern whether that ends up as a review on a website or not.
We are trying to find the job bag in Archives so we can address your review properly as there was no address.
