The location is ideal for a relaxing weekend lunch or dinner with friends. In summer, the rear courtyard is a nice spot to sit back and enjoy some mezze.

A very classy bistro serving middle eastern/european cuisine. Kamel is nice but yet not too uptight. The menu is suited towards sharing and the staff are quite helpful you ask for suggestions re food preferences etc. Expect delights such as:
Zucchini corn, feta, chickpea flour fritters with green tahini ($7.5 for 2 large discs)
Warm roasted pumpkin and beetroot salad with kale, pistachios and goats cheese (lrge entree sized, $16)
Roasted pork belly with fennel, orange and maple baked apple ($26)
Custardy Turkish delight centred donuts served with vanilla ice cream ($10)

I went here for dinner with a group of about 10. We were seated in a lovely private area upstairs on a long table. We ate a banquet and each course seemed little to share but turned out to be plenty and was all delicious. The food was a blend of Middle eastern to Mediterranean and a particular favourite was the saganaki. I personally loved the dessert platters, which had a combination of ice creams, Turkish delight, Turkish fairy floss and baklava. It was a very enjoyable evening and the banquet style was a delicious change and opportunity to try lots of different dishes. I would certainly come back and try some of the meals not offered in the banquet.

Approximate cost: $Approx. $30 each for food for the banquet.

Great little place. Great food. shame about the service. The food is to be shared amongst your dining companions and we each chose a dish. We enjoyed everyone of them. Great choice for a restaurant. I would recommend this restaurnat for those who like tasty, middle eastern cuisine.

Great place to go for a shared food experience. Incidentally fantastic for group and family events. Whether you are after a feast or just want a nibble, the staff at Kamel are happy to serve and accommodate. The decor is middle eastern, but not cliched and over the top.
Menu-wise, the food is again middle eastern. To start, we had watermelon with pomegranate molasses & feta ($12), sweet potato & sesame seed falafels with a honey & tahini sauce ($14), Quail glazed with rose jam ($14) and Patatas bravas ($11). This was followed by moroccan chicken skewers ($17) and chermoulla prawn kebabs ($18). Everything was delicious, cooked just right and the skewers came with salad. I was particular glad to note that the food was not overspiced, which can be a common tendency at middle eastern restaurants.
Service was very warm and the food was good value (quality & serving size) in comparison to so many other middle eastern restaurants.

One of the best places to eat in Melbourne!!!!
Kamel is a small, cosy, and friendly place to eat. The restaurant itself is in an old terrace-style shop front that has been converted into a versatile little eatery. You can sit in the front area (usually for groups of 1-4 people), the middle room (for groups of 5+), out the back (a covered and heated outside area for overflow seating or groups of 5+), and an upstairs area which I think is for private functions though I have never been up there to know for sure. It is a fantastic set up!
You may think that the front part of the restaurant is a bit full, but I think it adds to the overall feel of the place.

As this is a restaurant, the most important thing is the food and you won't be disappointed. It is middle-eastern style food with a good selection of meat and vegetarian food. They are all small servings of about 4 pieces designed to be shared amongst the group. And the food is amazing! The one thing you absolutely must try if you go there is the Grilled Peppered Watermelon. Grilled watermelon with a pomegranate molasses, feta cheese, Dill, and cracked pepper. I know it sounds strange but you will not regret it .......except that it is very addictive. The mains and desserts are all delicious and unique: pistachio crumbed goats cheese, lamb & lentil filo triangles with yoghurt, and turkish delight ice cream! Yummy! They also make a very nice Sangria as well as some nice cocktails.

The service is always good. The staff are friendly and helpful. If you don't know how the meals work or what would be good to eat they are always there ready with suggestions.

The price is very, very reasonable. For the quality of the food you get the price is very cheap. It works out as about $15 a plate, they even do half serves and have a Banquet menu for larger groups.

We make any excuse we can to go there, in fact we are going there again next week for a birthday. The food is that good!

Fantastic tapas with a Middle Eastern / African influence. Have used spices really well throughout the food and drink menus. Service was also good and tends to fill up quickly.
Highly recommended - also have options for vegetarians and gluten-free.

If you have never been, then I suggest that you give it a whirl. Kamel is an amazing hidden Middle Eastern secret. The menu will set your taste buds into frenzy and the food supports it. We spent nearly 4 hours with friend over a surprizing array of tasty dishes.
The restaurant staff are fantastic and very informative with the explanations of the food that was presented to the table. They also allowed the majority of us to order the banquet/set menu and others to order the few items that they wanted, flexible enough to allow everyone to enjoy the things that they like.
The Cocktails are out of this world, simple but elegant and all with a desert sunset in mind. Some cocktails with a hint of cinnamon and others with vanilla vodka. My favourite cocktail was made with rose water.
The chef “Mark” also made the time to come out and say hello to our table of quests.
I can honestly say well left well and truly satisfied (stuffed).

Banquet $35 - $40
Cocktails $12

I took a friend along to 'Kamel' for dinner on a Friday night. I had made a booking earlier in the day as I knew from walking past the restaurant that it was quite small. The food was absolutely lovely. The pistachio crumbed goats cheese with fig paste and turkish bread was SO nice, as too were the red lentil and chickpea falafels with a salad of quino, cucumber and capsicum with tzatzik. It is a place where you order a few dishes and share them - otherwise they offer banquests for four people or more. The restaurant is licensed and there was a good selection of wines. The service was quite good - perhaps slightly above average. The atmosphere was quite lively given that the restaurant was full and the space not large. Overall definitely worth the visit - I would not hesitate to go there again.

I went here last Saturday with a group of friends and had a great experience. The food is great to share and we had plenty between us. The wine list is quite small but had something that we wanted and the G&T's were very very good (perfect for a hot Melbourne day). They are establishing a small courtyard which looks very enticing.

Greta Little restaurant amongest all the others locally. Has seating out the front, inside, a courtyard and smalls room for a functions or larger numbers. Food was great, the flavour and colours were wonderful. Servings on a set menu for $35.00 a head, was very small. Some friends left hungry. The waiting between each meal was a little long as well. Good selection on the wine menu and two ATM's are near by as well if you forgot the cash.

We had breakfast with friends at Kamel on the weekend. It's a very small place and we took our two kids along, luckily we got the bench seat along the window because there isn't a lot of room for high chairs. The staff were overall quite friendly, the only problem was that the eggs on toast we ordered for the kids came about 5 mins after everyone elses meals. Those with kids will know this is not a good thing, the staff knew we were ordering it for kids so they should have prioritised those meals. Also some of the other meals at the table were much fancier than two fried eggs on toast so there was no reason they should have taken longer. There are certainly better places to go for breakfast.

Today we went to kamel for breakfast, something we do occasionally. And have absolutely loved up until today. However today was appalling. We tried to order and the staff who all appeared so scattered had so much terrible understanding three serves of scrambled egges with sides of avocado salmon and spinach, and a serve of butter beans with turish bread. the waitress hit one of the the people in our party when she couldnt understand the order. This hit might have only been in fun however as customer trying to order with a waitress who couldnt understand the English language this was frustrating and inappropriate. After ordering we sat back to enjoy a beautiful morning only to be interrupted and told that we couldnt have egg white only scrambled eggs... which i might add we had eaten on a number of occasions at kamel before. When we advise the waitress we had ordered this previously she rudely told us that they don't do special orders because everyone will ask for them. So first they take the order then come back and argue that they will not do it and present this information in an agressive manner .. this didnt impress us to say the least. When the food arrived we had to ask for cutlery and salt and pepper... whilst eating we realise that a table behind us had been waiting for over an hour for their food. This just added to the poor experience... and after we finshed our meals the waitress tried to bring us the food for the poor table behind us.. it was more than obvious that the staff had no idea what they were doing. To the point that when we went to pay they tried to under charge one of the people in ou party.. and we had to tell them they got it wrong.

All up the staff were nothing but appalling and should consider getting a good nights sleep before coming into work.
