Although this place is famous for Malaysian food, Melbourne is spoilt for choices when it comes to Malaysian food. However, their tissue roti is amazing!

Authentic Malaysian restaurant. I ordered roti canai, and curry, but the portion size was small, full of flavor

Authentic Malaysian restaurant. I ordered roti canai, satay skewers, mee goreng and ice milo. I love all my foods and service also excellent but the price is a bit too expensive for the meal. But I will come back again ;)

Approximate cost: $12

Really tasty, fresh and authentic Malaysian food served here. Service is attentive and prompt too. Chicken satay is divine though skewers are on the smaller side and the Nasi Goreng was one of the best I've eaten yet. Decent feed for great value too.

Delicious tasty food. I had both the savoury and sweet roti, great presentation with sweet roti which came in a dome shape and beautifully crisp. Nasi lemak was yummy, though portion size could have been bigger for the price. Unfortunately also stung with a $4 surcharge going on New Years Day.

The place had a good vibe in terms of happy customers and friendly staff. The seating was very comfortable despite the restaurant being quite full. The waitresses were genuinely enthusiastic and happy to serve. We had Roti Canai - $5.50, 1/2 dozen Beef Satay and Roti Bom with ice cream - $9.00 each, two drinks - Teh Tarik and Cham - $4.00 each (total meal $31.50). The food and drinks were delicious but the serving size was not as good as expected, probably should have ordered one more dish.

Mamak Instant Mee Goreng - At last...we hve something as authentic and better mamak food in Melbourne.
The previous Old Town Kopitiam was so-so, and with the new openings of Papa Rich (which was super horrible food) was a let down.
Finally found this new outlet opened in Melbourne CBD, packed with Msian people. Serving is big, a bit pricey for normal Mamak food which you can easily get in Malaysia (can't complain that much).
Try it for yourself and see if it suits your palette.

Approximate cost: $11.00-15.00

This place is often packed with people all hours of the day and night due to its good food and fast service. The roti here is especially good and they make fabulous teh tariks. During busy hours, be prepared to queue as it a popular venue.

Approximate cost: $10

This place is the offshoot of the original Mamak in Sydney. The place in Sydney has queues starting well before the place opens as they don't take bookings.

When Mamak opened in Melbourne my hopes were high and the place again does not take bookings. However we found the wait worth it and the food reasonably consistent with what we found in Sydney. The Roti was fluffy and crunchy, however it is frustrating because the only option is fish curry and for those not a fan of fish curry it means you need to pay around $15 to order a serve of chicken curry to go with the Roti.

Other dishes are very authentic - like the mee goreng, although sometimes the chef is chilli happy and it can be overly spicy. The rojak salad contained great amounts of flavor with the prawns, coconut fritters and peanut sauce and the nasi lemak was also authentic and allowed between a friend chicken and curry chicken option allowing some customization.

The lime drink reminded me of being back in Malaysia, Singapore or Thailand and the ice kachang provided a great ending to the meal.

Service is generally efficient with orders taken electronically by the waiters and provided the place is not overloaded you can normally get service quite quickly.

What we did not like though was the extra service charge of $3 per person on a public holiday which detracted from the experience, although we have been there several times on a non public holiday.

Approximate cost: $13
