Lots to try here. Always have some samples out and about for you to try before you buy.
They have a nice coffee shop attachment now too, which adds a nice touch.
Not only does this place make and sell chocolate, but you can get various memorabilia too.
Adelaide is not a boring place, Melba's Chocolate factory is one icon in Adelaide worth chasing up. The chocolate range is great, and, they even sell cow pat chocolate, if you don't know what that is, it is high time you went to find out. Licorice is the old fashioned hard as nails, teeth breaking yummy old school licorice. Rows and rows of lollies, traffic lights, rocky road, easter chokkies, frogs, too many to name. I love the small display in the entrance of the butter churner. Make a day of it, don't be in a hurry and take in the fine area too.

Have been here many times when our kids were growing up, even now with them being a lot older they do ask my husband and I to bring something back for them. It's great during the school holidays if you have school age children.
Our boys loved going here when they were younger.
Dropped in here today whilst taking my son for a driving lesson. It had been a while since I had been here yet nothing has changed, except the prices certainly have gone up a bit.
They have just about any chocolate or sweet you can think of and heaps of samples to try before you buy.
Usually they have the machines working so you can actually watch the sweets being made, but they seemed to be under repair today. A great place to take the kids during the school holidays, they will enjoy. But be prepared to pay more than you usually would as it is a bit expensive.
Oh yum chocolate and sweets by the ton.
Especially nice at Christmas time; a tradition of mine to take the kids, Melbas Chocolate factory is a fun and fascinating place to go.
Watch with wonder as your favourite treats are made before your very eyes. A lovely drive to get there and with free entry you gotta go at least once.
I have been here a couple of times, I always enjoyed tasting as well as purchasing the chocolates. You use to be able to watch them actually making the sweets, but I don't know if they still do it.
I love Melba's at Christmas time as its so lively, cheery and warm. They used to trade until midnight which was a real delight to go to after seeing the lights at Lobethal. Their traffic light lollies and rocky road chocolate are the best, when we go up into the hills we try to make the effort to visit and go across to all the little craft and food stores.
If only Melba's catered for vegans! I did find a packet of liquorice, but otherwise everything else appeared to contain cows milk or gelatine....ah well. Hubby happy to find the chocolate he was after and the showroom set out well. More staff needed in retail.

This chocolate factory is a gem! It's a tourist attraction/factory/shop all rolled into one. You can see the chocolates and liquorice being made and you can then sample them straight away. The shop is joined to the factory and is very spacious. There are so many different sorts of chocolates and confectionery to buy and you can try them first as well. There is endless stuff to sample at every corner you turn. They have chocolate gift boxes/hampers and speciality ones for Christmas and Easter. You probably won't leave empty handed because the prices are so cheap and there is something for everyone. They sell the best tasting rocky road, chocolate coated coffee beans and liquorice I have ever tried.
I wouldn't say they have the best chocolate on the market but it's still high quality (maybe it's just personal taste). Going there for the experience and the range is what makes it special. Being able to watch the lollies being made is a real treat and there's plenty of souvenirs/gifts to buy. They really win with presentation. Growing up in the hills I've visited numerous times, especially during school holidays (I'd recommend taking young children there as something to do during the holidays.) I love buying a small amount of lots of different lollies/chocolates. Definitely one of the top 10 places to visit in the Adelaide hills.
Approximate cost: $1+
More than just a shop it's an experience. Take a day trip with the whole family to visit this factory where you can see the sweets being hand made. Fascinating for the kids and the free samples are lovely. They sell a great gift range too.
I love going to Melbas and yes you can make a lovely day out of it we will be making the trip out again in a fortnight
there is nothing else in adelaide that is as fun and yummy to go to. i love the fact that you get to sample the lollies as you go around and watch lollies being made
