We signed up with origin a few years ago after the previous company we were with upped their prices. We didnt really do much research on origin but it was one of the first companies that popped into mind when we decided to change so we called them and what they had to offer was cheaper than the other 2 companies we had called so we went with them. after our first bill we received a letter saying origins energy rates are going to increase from this date. We stayed with them until we moved 9 months later. No real problems just disappointed rates went up not long after we signed.

THIS COMPANY CHARGED A HORRENDOUS AMOUNT For electricity. It needs to improve its pricing structure and its customer service operators. I was harassed by operators trying to sell me on the company, despite already being a customer, yet when I needed a problem fixed nobody wanted to deal with me.

That is pretty appalling behaviour, I am sorry to hear this. Thanks for the warning though.

i have been with origin energy for the last year and half and have never had a problem with them. There customer service line is quite quick when you ring and they are very helpful. They are very flexible with your payment options if your having trouble paying on time. I actually rang them today to tell them i had been offered a better deal by another power supplier, they matched the price straight away and sweeten the deal with a few extra discounts which i found very good.
They always send bills out quite quickly so you have a reasonable amount of time to pay it.

As far an energy companies go I found Origin to be ok.
I think they are in a tough market and no one is going to say that they are fabulous when they are having to pay through the nose for utilities.

That said, I personally had no issues with Origin. I always received my bills, had the meter read as required, found them flexible with payment extensions and helpful whenever I had to phone them.

I am now with an other provider, having moved states, but I would certainly sign up with them again should they be on offer/competitive.

After I switched my mum's gas from Origin to AGL, Origin called and switched my mum back via a phone call! My mum's English is not good and they took advantage of her lack of language skills and signed her up to another contract. Now we have to pay an early termination fee! Nasty tactics to get customers, will not patronise again.

I am not a fan of Origin and not surprised to hear this - best to avoid this company, for sure.

I'm with origin energy - whilst I must say that electricity prices are really high if you can find a more competitive price they will generally match it. I did manage to get my bills down somewhat using this.

Since the first half of 2012 my gas bills have doubled in cost - usage is the same or less than last year, but the cost has increased by 50-100%. Everyone was worried about electricity, but no-one mentioned that the gas companies were about to rip people off! I'll be comparing prices immediately!

In July this year when someone came door-knocking to sign up with Origin/Integral for better discounts on my electricity/gas bill I signed up with them. Then I went online through iSelect & they gave a better offer so I cancelled the original agreement by ringing Origin direct. They told me they could give me a better discount if I signed up with them direct which I did by cancelling the first agreement & the one from iSelect. When Truenergy advertised 17% discount on the overall bill for electricity & gas, I decided to go with them instead. However, when the written agreement came, the terms for those with solar electricity were not favourable although gas discount was better than Origin's. I went back to Origin & asked if they could give a better discount for gas & got a better deal than the original but only verbally. It also took them a longer time to changeover from my current provider for gas so I had to wait an extra quarter for the next reading in November. The welcome letter came recently & I didn't get the extra discount so I had to ring up again & was put through to the resolution department before I got it. The discount is only on usage but I will also get $100 credit from my first bill for gas & $150 credit for electricity. If you want to switch energy retailers, it is not always a smooth process. There's a $70 penalty for cancellation within the first year with Origin. Do your homework before you switch providers & negotiate for a better deal if possible.

Well, it does sound like of back and forth with Origin. It isn't as easy as they advertised. Thanks for sharing.

I rang these people to let them know I was moving from Albion Park NSW to Wollongong. I will now be receiving a "Meter Reading" bill soon. Of $48.40. Does this sound nuts to you? What next a "walking" fee to get to the meter!

Approximate cost: $48.40
