Remezzo is a busy (and often noisy) neighbourhood restaurant I have visited numerous times, that has a broadly mediterranean menu including Italian, Greek and Spanish style dishes, with an interesting tapas (smaller snacks) menu including goats cheese fritters and arancini balls (delicious, both $9.90). There are pizzas on the menu (including thin base) - I didn't like the "gourmet range" (from $11 to $19.50), much preferring the regular (and cheaper) offerings ($7.50 - $18, Vegetarian and Capricciosa are the favourites in my family). On the pasta menu, my favourite is the (not striclty pasta) Gnocchi Pumpkin - lovely light gnocchi in a creamy spinach and pumpkin sauce ($14.50). Of the mains on offer, the Chicken Parma is my family's favourite, while the grilled lamb cutlets with lemonata potatoes always brings complaints - that there isn't more! When you first enter Remezzo one thing you can't miss are the outrageously large platters of the house specialities that are carried regularly to appreciative tables - Loukmades (doughnuts in syrup) and Churros (long piped doughnuts wth a chocolate sauce) ($9 each). You should definitely try these, they are really delicious - even if only once! On a couple of visits our food was a bit slow coming (made worse by the appearance of aforesaid huge fragrant plates of doughnuts at other tables) but the service and atmosphere is friendly and homely (if your home includes about 40 people talking loudly). There is also a free delivery service in the local area for orders over $20 on the nights you prefer to stay cocooned at home.

My boyfriend and I went there for dinner tonight (Thursday). We were greeted by the manager with a smile and immediately seated. I had made a reservation just to make sure, and it was good that I did because the place was packed.

The manager was our waiter and he gave us sufficient time to read and choose the meal we want. And it was only about 15 minutes until we were given our meal. Which was really prompt and we were pretty impressed.

I ordered the Linguine Carbonara which was really creamy and rich. The portion was decently sized and very well presented. However, I found it a little too rich and hard to finish. Otherwise, very, very nice.

My boyfriend ordered the Porterhouse Steak with peppercorn sauce. He said it was generously sized and the salad and chips that came with it was a nice extra. He also said the sauce was lovely but a little too rich for his liking. The salad came with balsamic vinegar and wasn't offered any other kind of dressing. A little more chips would have been nice.

Overall, this place was lovely, the service was great and it was reasonably priced. It was a little loud which made it hard to have a conversation but we dealt with it. A very nice night out.

9/10

Approximate cost: $19

After hearing so many good things about Remezzo, I finally got around to dining there for the first time a few weeks ago. I went with a work colleague on a Friday after work. We didn't have a booking, which would have been a problem because they were booked solid (a good sign!!!) but they had a table available outside which was lucky (it's fairly loud and crowded inside when it's full).

The food was delicious. The portion sizes are HUGE and the pasta dishes are simple but flavoursome. I had the Linguini di Mare, which was absolutely delicious and packed full of seafood. Definitely no skimping on the prawns and mussels! I could barely finish it but I forced myself to because it was just that delicious. We shared a dessert pizza afterwards (even though we were both full, we just had to be greedy!) and it was OK (I probably didn't enjoy it as much because I was already full). However, the food was fabulous and overall we had a great time. The staff never rushed us and the weather was warm and balmy so we enjoyed sitting outside.

A couple of weeks later, when my husband asked me where I wanted to go for my family birthday dinner with the in-laws, I was still raving about Remezzo so insisted we go there. He booked a table for eight of us. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The place was very loud and crowded (it was a Saturday night) so that took away from the atmosphere a little. The food was still amazing. Huge portions. We all had the dips platter as a starter and they gave us extra bread when we ran out. It was a little odd having actual rolls with the dips (instead of turkish or pita bread) but the dips were delish regardless. I had the duck risotto for main, which was great, the rice was cooked perfectly, beautiful flavours. I was lucky to finish half the dish, and took the rest home in a doggy bag for later. Everyone had pizza and/or pasta and there were smiles and full tummies all around.

My main advice would be BOOK IN ADVANCE!!! Every time I walk past in the evening it's always full, so book ahead lest you be disappointed when you get turned away.

Also, watch where you park. My sister-in-law got a parking ticket late on the Saturday night because she parked in a permit zone on a side street without realising it.

Logistics aside, you'll have a great time at Remezzo and you definitely WON'T leave hungry!

This place was recommended to me by a friend and at first I was suspicious thinking it was just another pizza restaurant. How wrong I was, the food is superb and extremely well priced. I don't know of anywhere else in a ten kilometre radius where you can buy a steak for under $21. The food is excellent, main courses are around $18 and there tapas menu is superb. The staff are friendly without being familiar and can intelligently discuss the menu with you. This restaurant is a MUST if you live in the area.

Approximate cost: $18
