I remember the days when the Skybus was $9, so the $17 fare now seems excessive. Terrible background music on the bus (some classical music would have been far more calming). Slightly friendlier bus drivers would have been nice.
Probably the cheapest way to get to the airport (if you're not travelling in a group). Frequent, comfortable, friendly/helpful drivers, several drop off points at the airport.
Approximate cost: $26 return
I have mixed feelings about Skybus because of their "monopoly" on this sort of travel.
Okay, taxi is expensive plus sometimes not very accommodating. For a larger family (which we are) we have to get a station wagon type to fit all the luggage. So $70 around.
But Skybus isn't any great alternative. You have to get the train or whatever from your home to the station to catch it so hassles with luggage and kids. They save you the drive and the parking hassles at the airport, but that's about it.
Then they charge you extra for luggage. Per person it's around $17 - voila - I'm over $70 already.
For us, not a great alternative.
Approximate cost: $17 adult one way.
Very convenient and cheap way of getting to and from Melbourne airport. Buses leave regularly from Spencer Street and the best thing is that you don't have to worry about driving in that crazy traffic or pay for parking once you are there, or worry about the meter running beserk in a taxi.
This is very flexible mode of transportation between airport and city. It is very cheap compare to other modes like taxi. Also I used to travel a lot via skybus as its has great frequency.
Really cheap and easy mode of transportation with none of the hassle. Cheaper than paying for parking! Service is good too, will always help you with your bags
This is such a great service. Whenever I go to southern cross station, the sky bus is leaving in a few minutes so not sure how regular they actually are because I nave never had to wait. It's then a quick run to the airport. So much quicker and easier than driving, parking etc.
Approximate cost: $17
I regularly travel on skybus and always find there service to be exceptional. I have travelled on skybus multiple times over the last 12.months and never had a problem. The drivers are really friendly and helpful. The last time we went on here we had some heavy luggage, the driver carried our luggage on to the bus and then we got to airport he got it all off for us and offered to help.us inside. I thought that was really nice. It is a cheap transport option for getting to and from airport with it only costing $17 adult one way or $28 return.
awesome :D
Used to be cheap man prices have gone through the roof
When relatives of mine came to Australia from Cyprus I booked them a trip on the Shuttle bus to get their first experience of Australia and they loved it. It was more than affordable, they had a great trip and they learnt a little bit about Melbourne.
glad they had a great time!
Since we live next to southern cross station and travel a lot, we have always been taking skybus to the airport.
The service is operating 24/7 and one trip never takes longer than 25 minutes. There is a screen inside the bus and plenty of space to store your luggage.
I would recommend to purchase your ticket in advance if you don't want to join the end of a long queue at the skybus ticket booths!
skybus is much cheaper than the average taxi fare.
Approximate cost: $28$ return
