This review is for James Bond Cleaning Services, Brisbane QLD

We used James Bond Cleaning Service for our end-of-lease carpet clean. It was really easy to get a free quote and book via email and the guys showed up right on time, but were prepared for a full house clean rather than just the carpets, so there must have been some miscommunication between the administrator I spoke to via email and phone and the guys who came out to do the job. They were great about the mix-up, though, and immediately got started on the carpets. They were able to remove stains I hadn't had any success with myself, which was fantastic, and the overall result was fantastic! The cost was $97 for three bedrooms and well worth the money. Based on what I was quoted for the home clean (mistakenly!) their rates for an overall bond clean are pretty good as well.

I saw Dr Green for vertigo problems which others doctors had determined to be neurological. She was very helpful and professional and was able to quickly diagnose me with a particular kind of migraine and prescribe medication to help with it. She gave me instructions for dosage increase ahead of time and allows my GP to call her if there are any questions, aware of the high out-of-pocket cost of seeing a neurologist. Overall, she is helpful, professional, and knowledgable. I highly recommend her if you are looking for a neurologist in Brisbane/SEQ.

Fantastic gym with seperate general and womens' areas, a wide range of equipment for all kinds of work-outs, quality personal training and lots of fun group classes. From pole fitness to pump to yoga, there's a class for everyone at Ezyfit. The classes are modern and exciting and really provide an interesting way to work out.

The equipment, areas and locker rooms are always clean and tidy. There are two vibrogym machines available, one in the women's area and one in a private room, which is a really efficient and powerful way to tone up.

Membership is at a good value rate, with classes, vibrogym and personal training included in packages. Everyone there is friendly and there's a family atmosphere. Excellent club!

This review is for Jackpot Noodles, Brisbane QLD

verified email - 03 Apr 2012

Jackpot offers a range of Asian-style meals at very good prices. You're responsible for picking up the food from the counter, but for those prices, the effort is worth it. The food was fresh, tasty and filling - great for dinner or before a big night out. I'm looking forward to trying more options from the range, but I can wholeheartedly recommend their stir-fry noodles.

This review is for Top Sushi, Brisbane QLD

The second-best sushi option in the Brisbane CBD. Ingredients are fresh and delicious, and they offer nigiri and salmon packs in addition to the range of sushi rolls. Their avocado rolls are particularly good (or particularly bad on the rare occasion that it isn't properly ripe), I think it's due to the mayonnaise (which you can ask for in addition to any purchase). A really wide range to choose from, and they're open later than any of the other CBD sushi shops.

This review is for LR Sushi, Brisbane QLD

Without a doubt the best sushi I have ever eaten - and judging by the usual lunchtime lines, the rest of the city agrees as well! The ingredients are just so fresh and they have all the usual varieties along with some unique kinds like fresh kingfish complete with a little slice of lemon. Every single item I've had from LR Sushi has been exceptional and well worth lining up for. Even better, all the rolls are $2 (unlike the typical $2.50-$3 other places charge these days). Amazing value and of course the taste is unrivalled!

This review is for The Fishmonger's Wife, Dicky Beach QLD

Their menus are marked with 'healthy eating choices', making it simpler to selected a low-fat alternative to the typical fried fish and chips. There are plenty more 'gorumet' options including my favourite, the Tahitian Lime Coconut Cream Dory. An irresistable dish with a lovely blend of flavours. Definitely not just your average fish-and-chip corner store! All fish are available with rice or chips or chips and salad.

Their chips are the thick chunky kind and I didn't think they were the best out there, but other than that, all of the food was absolutely stellar - the sea scallops are definitely another winner! They also do a gluten-free salt-and-pepper calamari on request. The whole family loved the meal and I plan to order there again plenty of times in the future.

Approximate cost: $15-20

This review is for Savvas Fine Seafood, Mermaid Beach QLD

verified email - 03 Apr 2012

Savvas boasts of putting several years effort into creating a perfect gluten-free batter, and boy has it paid off! It's the best batter I've even tasted, gluten-free or not - it practically melts in your mouth with a wonderful crisp and doesn't dominate the flavour like gluten-free products often do. It was amazing to have a potato scallop again! While I've found one other fish and chip shop offering gluten-free, it doesn't do the battered items, let alone to this quality!

I was there in the early afternoon on a Saturday and the store was empty - my order of potato scallops and pineapple fritters took around 15 minutes to prepare, which is a little longer than expected, but I know that they adhere to a strict no-contamination policy for their gluten-free items, so this may have been the reason for the wait.

Regardless, the food was absolutely scrumptious and I can't wait to get back again!

This review is for Gypsy & The Cat Cafe, Mermaid Beach QLD

verified email - 03 Apr 2012

I visited Gypsy & the Cat while on holidays at Nobby Beach. The cafe itself is enthralling, with a completely unique and quirky decor, containing many fascinating pieces. The cafe also has some clothing and jewelery for sale, which gives you something to look at while you wait for your coffee.

The not-so-great side of my visit - staff were inexperienced, my bubble tea took a long time to prepare and the single staff member left off making my drink to talk to a clothing customer for some time - not so great right in front of a customer who's waiting for their order. The drink itself was pretty sub-standard, so I think they have a long way to go before they can really offer bubble tea at the same level as the bubble tea chains do. The tall glass it was served in, while interesting, made it impossible to reach the pearls at the bottom of the glass - a minor annoyance, but I thought I'd mention it.

The cakes and food all looked divine, so I'm looking forward to trying those next time also!

This review is for Vegerama, Brisbane QLD

verified email - 03 Apr 2012

This is a vegetarian/vegan restaurant located in the Food Court of the Myer Centre. They offer a variety of multicultural curry dishes every day, as well as vegetarian lasagne, snacks (including gluten-free taquitos, rice balls, koftas, etc), salads and vegan cakes. They are very knowledgeable about gluten-free items and have them all marked for ease of choosing.

At the end of each day they have a special - two curries and rice (brown or saffron) for $6 (usually $8), so this is a really good time to buy for dinner. Sometimes they have cleaned off the listings of foods for the day by this time, but it's worth asking or just taking a guess and trying some new dishes you wouldn't have expected.

My favourite curries are the Thai option of green curry (has tofu) and Thai pumpkin curry (absolutely amazing, creamy-textured dish) - I like these better than the other Indian-type dishes. The vegetable koftas are divine and make sure you ask for the special sauce - it's really incredible! So unique that I've never tasted anything like it, and goes perfectly with the cripsy koftas.

The staff are very nice and often have samples of kofta for people walking past, so if you want to try out Vegerama without buying, grab some on your way through the Myer Centre!
