Another 4 star from me, this is a nice pub it has a really relaxed feel to it. Lots of locals and regulars attend and it shows with the beer garden being full most of the times ive been there. The food is good, burgers are nice but i especially enjoy the Nachos. The bar prices arent too bad and they are open fairly late. Also a very handy venue if you are seeing an act at the Enmore Theatre (tho its usually packed around these times). Definitely worth a visit for a beer and maybe dinner.

This review is for Istanbul On King, Newtown NSW

If im in newtown and in a hurry i generally visit Istanbul on King. They make a pretty good kebab but they also have a fab range of pizza's which you can buy individual slices for. They are open very long hours so if your in the area at lunch its quick, or even at 3am after the pub it is generally pretty quick. Service is ok, tho there are usually so many people sometimes you must wait. The inside dining looks fantastic with a range of different foods, unfortunately i have never tried this. Definitely the best kebab on King St.

This used to be my regular stop when heading out for drinks in newtown, get a curry when you get up there. They have a wide selection and quite a few dish combos which is great when you want a mix. There is always a table and the service is fast, however i have found that due to being so popular they dont put as much effort into their dishes anymore since they have to produce a lot for the busy restaurant downstairs. Having said that you get a lot on your plate and i have never walked out hungry or unsatisfied. I have not been upstairs yet (new renovations), you may receive a different or more traditional menu there. The prices are decent, but there are definitely some better priced indian choices in the area.

This review is for Lowenbrau Keller, The Rocks NSW

Fantastic night out, a great assortment of Beer and spirits and a genuine european feel. The food is fantastic, when i have dined i have gotten the mixed platter for two and it melts in your mouth. You get a mixture of a whole bunch of different meats and specialties. My favourite being the pork knuckle. The entertainment is interesting, i would recommend getting a table outside in summer and inside in winter. 6pm - 7pm is the better time to have a booking, as you get your food and drinks in early and by the time you have finished eating the place is getting busy and you arent interrupted so much. It is a must you get a stein when there!

This review is for Kelly's On King, Newtown NSW

Kelly's has been around for a fair few years now, i have attended more times i can count and recently it has undergone renovations which have really brightened the place up. The pub grub is really nice, they make a mean nachos and a good parmigiana. They have a wide range of beers on tap and they have accomodated the outside areas very nicely with plenty of space upstairs and downstairs for people to sit in their balcony/courtyard. There is live music, karaoke and a big screen out the back which they play many of the big name sports on. Very good place for people to meet up and enjoy a long night, they are also open until 4am. Prices arent over the top like some other newtown pubs nowdays and your not struggling to find a seat/position to stand when it is busy.

This review is for Athenian Greek Restaurant, Sydney NSW

verified email - 28 Apr 2008

By far my best Greek experience in Sydney so far. The location was handy, being close to public transport and the restaurant is large (looks like its in an old bank). There were 8 of us and we had a nice large table that easily fit everyone (not all crammed in around a small table). The entree's came within 10min of ordering as well as the drinks, the dips were sublime and we had to order mountains of bread to keep eating it all with. The choices for mains all sounded delicious, i got the slow cooked lamb with chips and a greek salad and my partner got the baby octopus. The lamb fell off the bone and the octopus melted in your mouth! Definitely a great experience and we couldnt believe the price when we finished up! Very decent indeed for a City restaurant and i think ill be visiting again very sono.

This review is for Steki Taverna, Newtown NSW

verified email - 28 Apr 2008

Visited the Steki Taverna (just off King St) for a friends Birthday dinner and it was a great venue. The food did take a little while to come out, but the inhouse entertainment was fantastic. The music was great and they did put on a good show, the servings were very generous however i found that the Slow Cooked Lamb required a side dish otherwise it was simply too much meat on its own to eat properly. All of the other dishes at the table looked fantastic, the breads and dips were tops and id definitely visit again in the future.

This review is for Thaitanic, Newtown NSW

There are many thai restaurants in Newtown, but this one is one of my favourites on King St. The restaurant itself is quite small and cramped, however it does have a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. They make a very nice Yellow Curry as well as a killer Panang Curry. Their Pad Thai isnt too bad, they opt for a thinner noodle variety however. Prices are cheap, its BYO so make sure you take a bottle of wine. The chilli basil chicken also looks really nice, however i havent tried it yet.

This review is for The Meat & Wine Co, Sydney NSW

verified email - 28 Apr 2008

A great place to eat, i have eaten at the Meat & Wine Co in Melbourne as well as this one in Darling Harbour and i much preferred the Sydney experience. The location is great, its close to everything and you have a nice view of darling harbour. Its also very open so if you sit out the front its just the perfect spot on a warm summer night. The food is great, service is quick and a really good variety. The entree's are a little lacking, a wee bit small but the mains definitely make up for it. I have had the burgers, steak and seafood and they all impress. The home made onion rings are superb. You can get out of there with a decent meal and not a hole in your wallet. Definitely recommended.

Privately owned petrol station which is not off the beaten track when travelling to and from work. They dont have ridiculous queues and done majorly inflate their prices even though they are a privately owned petrol station. They always have fuel in stock and open early in the morning so you dont have to drive 10 - 15mins in the wrong direction to fill up on the way to work.
