I have not been to Rivers Cafe for a number of years so was looking forward to renewing my acquaintance. There were 8 of us in total including 2 children.

To say the cafe was crowded would be to understate just how many people.

there were. Making your way through the tables is a challenge in it's self.

After ordering our meal, we waited over an hour for it to arrive and only after we had made two separate inquiry's as to where it was. The out waitress seemed to be reluctant to make contact with us and I can well understand why.

When the meals arrived they were of a good quality if not the hottest it could have been.

Be warned that when you order a mineral water they will bring you a large bottle and charge you $7.00. Also the number of toilets is woefully inadequate for the number of people they pack into the cafe.

As the reason for our visit was my mothers birthday we had brought a cake, only to be told they do not allow cakes, however they could provide their own at considerable cost I might add. When we explained that my mother was diabetic they agreed to give her one piece of the birthday cake we had provided but the remaining members of our party would have to purchase cakes from their selection. We decline their offer, canceled our orders for coffee and proceeded to leave the cafe.

On waiting to pay, there seemed to be a line of disgruntled patrons in front of me. Each complaining about the price of the food and poor level of service. Perhaps it was due to the number of complaints she had received that day but the attitude of the women on the cash register just highlighted the poor quality of service.

It is a pitty that what was once a friendly cafe has moved on to become a money hungry establishment more focused on the number of heads it can pack than how those people are treated.

I don't mind paying for good food, but not at the expense of good service.

Approximate cost: $26.00
