This review is for Bar Italia, Leichhardt NSW

For 20 years I have regarded Bar Italia as the gold standard for a good coffee and still do. A double shot, and extra hot is the standard and that's just how I like it. I have never been disappointed. We often come here before going to the Palace cinema and the service is always quick and efficient. Usually we get the salami panini or sometimes just a hot, buttered crunchy bread roll to have with a coffee or hot chocolate. Always worth a visit.

I was a bit disappointed with the pizzas here as I like the thin base style but there really wasn't enough on them and they were expensive for what they were. The mushroom (non-pizza) dish was very tasty but rather over-priced. The restaurant is designed primarily for groups of more than 2 because the tables for 2 are the ones I'd prefer not to sit at. The food is perfectly edible and I would go again if it was with a group and someone else had booked it, otherwise I wouldn't be the one to choose to go there.

They are very good here with Thai massage and do 15 minutes for $20 in a private booth with no oil, or you can have a 30 minute massage with oil which they prefer to do to get harder into the muscles. I have had massages by both women here and both are excellent. Art is only tiny but if you ask for a hard massage she will go in for the kill. She is good at identifying knots and working on them and her English is excellent so there are no issues with communicating your particular medical issues (if any). Highly recommended. You can walk in and get a massage either straight away or come back soon. It is not essential to ring and book an appointment.

This is an organic market as well as a cafe and sells all sorts of health food type organic foods. I went there for lunch and had a macchiato for $3 and an apple and raw muesli muffin for $5.50 (heated up with butter on the side at my request). The muffin was great - homemade with fresh ingredients. If I'd been a bit hungrier I would've gone for one of the homemade pies which looked very tempting. They are are around $5 or so and again, were nothing like the mass-produced pie you get just about everywhere else. I noticed one vegetarian option amongst them. They have a huge range of fruit juices and (rather expensive) smoothies and other drinks on the blackboard as well. The place is ideally suited to takeaway as there is only one bench inside to sit at and it is very rocky as it moves whenever anyone so much as brushes against it (I felt quite seasick reading the paper). Also the table is very close to the counter so it is not very relaxing. There is one largish table outside which is the prime spot if you want to eat in. I was halfway through eating my muffin and reading the paper when one of the staff called out from behind me that my coffee was ready. In other words, come and get it, we aren't going to bring it out which I would imagine would be another good reason to sit outside. Other than that the service was pretty good. They are obviously still finding their feet as a new business and the food looks much more appetising than most of what is on offer at the nearby food hall. I would probably get takeaway next time if I couldn't sit outside.

We were very happy with our experience here buying a Stihl chainsaw. We went in to buy it and the saleswoman told us to wait a few days and we would get it for $100 cheaper when the pre-Xmas sale started. We came back to get it and the chainsaw was filled up with petrol and one of the staff showed us how to use it. Great service and quality products for sale. We will be back soon to buy a new lawnmower from them.

This review is for Tamarind Tree Curries, Fairy Meadow NSW

I have tried the curries here a couple of times and been very disappointed both times. The curries are so mild that the word "curry" is a misnomer. They are also lacking in fresh spices and low on taste. I can make a much better curry than this without too much effort and for a fraction of the price. It is a pity this place hasn't improved over time as both my neighbour and myself were keen to try it when it opened, but we have each tried it twice and wouldn't go back.

This review is for Roppongi Japanese Restaurant, Wollongong NSW

I have been here several times for dinner and been reasonably happy but not thrilled with the experience. However today I went for lunch and found the meal and service sub-standard. We had to ask 3 times for water before they remembered to bring it to us. My partner's meal was brought way before mine so he was nearly finished by the time mine came. I had the chicken teriyaki lunch box. The chicken was hard (overcooked or off?) and a small portion, much smaller than my partner's fish pieces lunch box which turned out to be crumbed and fried chunks of fish which were edible but not great. I also ordered a homemade lemon squash which came in a can. When I queried that it was supposed to be homemade the waitress came back with what tasted like Solo poured into a glass. When the miso soup finally arrived that was part of the lunchbox package, we were about to leave. To make matters more unpleasant a large table behind us let their 3 very young children run around the restaurant continuously, creating an atmosphere rather like being trapped in the middle of a Macca's play area. Needless to say we were in a hurry to leave and won't be returning.

21/11/12 Update: A few hours after eating at Roppongi I started to feel ill and by the evening I was quite sick with vomiting, diarrhea, cramps and fatigue. For the next 5 days I was too ill to eat and even 2 weeks later, while better I wasn't over it so I had a test done and it came back positive for salmonella poisoning.

I had a rotten meal followed by a rotten week of being bedridden with food poisoning. It was definitely the fault of Roppongi as I had only eaten toast that day and then the lunch with them - the chicken being the obvious culprit. I hope others who still choose to eat here do not suffer the same misfortune.

This review is for Church Street Medical Practice, Newtown NSW

I have been seeing one of the doctors here for about 10 years and have been very happy with the service I have received. The centre is popular and you may have to wait a week or so for an appointment. However, you can ring at 8 in the morning and if there are any cancellations for that day they will fit you in. The practice is in a convenient location just behind the middle of the Newtown shops near the Dendy.

This review is for Seafood Fresh, Figtree NSW

I often go to Figtree Westfield specially to go to this fish shop as they have a good range of fresh seafood on display at competitive prices. Today I bought some trout at $28 a kilo. They also have a good marinara mix and a range of whole fish. I have also bought sashimi-grade tuna here which they get in from time to time.

I have had coffee here twice - the coffee is good but if you want to eat in and it is cold outside there aren't many spots inside. However the food is worth coming for. I had a very tasty lemon slice from their array of home-made range of cakes and slices.

I am adding to my review as I have upgraded it to 5 stars after having possibly the best sandwich I have ever had!! It was on multigrain sourdough with lentils, hommus, mint yoghurt and tomato. I will definitely be back.

Approximate cost: $11-12 for a sandwich
