This review is for Westpac Banking Corporation, Doncaster VIC

Yeah I know, its a bank. Big deal, they are all the same. Nu-huh not this one. I used to think all banks were the same. All greedy, money grabbing, disinterested institutions ... and most of the time I was right. But the Westpac Bank in Doncaster really changed my opinion. I wouldn't consider changing banks unless Westpac changed. I couldn't get over their degree of service. They actually cared about me and my money (and Im not rich). They listened and I talked, telling them what I wanted. Then they talked and gave me so much more than I ever dreamt a bank would be prepared to give. I was blown away with both this personal and caring service and the quality of their products. Nothing was too hard and the bank agent set everything up for me with one simple form. How good is that? And the products are not designed to make the bank more money. They were designed to make me more money. I couldn't get over it and this is a BANK.

This review is for Shell Petrol Station, Doncaster VIC

I tend to shop at Coles just to get their 4 cents off vouchers so I can go out of my way to buy petrol here. Admittedly it is always one of the cheapest around, but it is also in a great location and has some of the friendliest and happiest staff in petrol stations. I dont like Tuesday afternoons or Wednesday mornings here though as the queue can be out onto the street and its a busy major road. I think the exemplary service is what makes every one come here and makes it so busy on the cheap fuel days.

This review is for Prouds The Jewellers, Doncaster VIC

I went into the store to buy, not to browse and rather expected a higher degree of service. I rather felt as though I didnt really matter. Staff didn't seem interested in assisting me and I have certainly received better service in other jewellery stores. The product itself was very disappointing. I bought gold stud earrings and the assistant went to tighten the stud backs. Maybe this was a hint for me to shop elsewhere. A couple of days later I had lost the earring due to the back falling off. This is poor workmanship and not something I would expect from a reputable jewellery store. I buy quite a lot of jewellery for myself, my friends and family, but not from Prouds again.

i guess its because of the size of the shop that the service is well and truly lacking. Although it seems to be well staffed, the staff seem to be frazzled and rude. OK the prices are probably good. I wouldnt know as I would never go back there. Which I find to be the problem with any large market style shop, be it grocery store or chemist or anything. The bigger the shop, the less personalised and friendly. Its OK if you just want lower prices. It does claim to be the lowest ... but at what cost? And don't go there when you are in a hurry. The queues at the checkout were pretty long when I went there.

This review is for Nextra Newsagency, Doncaster VIC

This newsagency is big. No matter what I want, I get it here. One stop news, books, magazines, stationery shop. I only buy common magazines so not sure how they go with uncommon ones. I don't shop anywhere else for magazines, news and school stationery supplies. I don't need to.

This review is for Zavdiel Cafe, Caulfield VIC

A small and intimate cafe, serving kosher pizza that has to be tasted to be believed. I could eat pizza every day if it is made here. Lots of varieties to choose from and well priced. I drive 12 kilometers to get to this cafe and its worth the drive.

This review is for Glick's Cakes & Bagels, Balaclava VIC

verified email - 28 Dec 2008

Whenever I go to Glick's in Balaclava, I am amazed at the amazing variety of simply wonderful baked goods. Everything I have bought there is so delicious, not just the sweet cakes and desert items but the bagels, breads and savoury dishes. The pizza cafe is also great. They make simply fantastic pizzas there. I love going to Glick's but my waistline doesn't.

This review is for Riverfront Motel & Villas, Berriedale TAS

My friend recommended this place, so we booked in. It was very disappointing. Tiny hotel room, barely enough room for two people. The rooms were pretty shabby and needed a good renovation. The good point was that we were only staying two nights. I told my friend how disappointed we were and he mentioned that the villas are lovely and we should have stayed in a villa.

So for the record, I have on good authority the villas are very nice. Dont expect much if you stay in a hotel room. In fact don't expect anything at all. For the price, they were way under par.

This review is for Martin Cash Motel, Glenorchy TAS

verified email - 20 Dec 2008

We loved the apartments owned by Martin Cash. The apartments are closer to the city than the hotel, but not far. The apartments are very spacious with two good bedrooms. The bathroom complete with bath also managed to fit both washing machine and dryer with comfort. All the day to day needs are met at the hotel, a short drive away. The reception staff are really pleasant and helpful, making for an enjoyable visit.

This review is for Huon Bush Retreats, Ranelagh TAS

I was simply amazed. The guy who runs it is so friendly and helpful, I dont know how he manages. He had a tiny baby possum, keeping it safe as its mother had died and cuddling it was a highlight of my son's holiday. This place is perfect, peaceful, isolated without being lonely. The real treat was no tv and no need for one as the unspoilt bush was far more entertaining. Even the log fire was more interesting than tv. It was a total experience, something very different from the normal holidays. We loved it.
