I have recently come to Boken Hill and have eaten here twice. I had the Fillet Mignon the first time and it was absolutely excellent. One the second visit, I had the duck and that was terrible, it was dry and very tough and marinated in an extremely sweet orange sauce.

There are several dining areas, the main dining area is nicely decorated and so to is the "Red Room", both very pleasant dining settings.

I would recommend giving this place a go for above average dining experience. Beware, the main courses are BIG!

Deceiving from the outside but worth the punt!

It has a bit of a dodgy feel from the outside but it's worth going in. It's clean and well presented with a number or areas from porkies, TAB, bar and restaurant to choose from.

The meals appeal to most budgets from a cheap counter meal through to a "restaurant" style meal.

Again, worth a stop and a look whilst downing a coldie"

Good value pub food with a reasonable but not exhaustive selection.

Live music makes a pleasant change.

In the heart of Alice, worth a visit for a coldie and a game of pool.

This review is for Perth Airport, Cloverdale WA

Perth Domestic Airport has to be one of the countries worst airport terminals which is still struggling to catch up from the pre-GFC mining boom.

It lacks sufficient space and has very few facilities for passengers for one of the countries busier airports.

Coming from Cairns (a significantly smaller city), the airport is massive in comparison with many more facilities and places for passengers to sit.

Recent upgrades to the terminal have helped a little and the new connection between the Qantas and Virgin terminals (after security) means you can at least stretch your legs.

Unfortunately, there are no other choices if you want to fly in and out of Perth but be prepared to wait for your aircraft with pretty limited options to keep you entertained or relaxed.

This review is for Travel Lodge Hotel, Perth WA

Traveled to Perth recently for business and stayed in the Travel Lodge.

Whilst it isn't a luxury 5 star hotel, it was clean, tidy, well appointed and run by friendly helpful staff. The location is very handy to the CBD, Swan River, Northbridge and the shopping malls.

The hotel offers most of what you expect including a bar and restaurant including a nice outside beer garden / alfresco area.

I would recommend this to anyone who wants an affordable and comfortable accommodation close to the centre of Perth.

This review is for The Lucky Shag, Perth WA

verified email - 31 Dec 2012

Having been away from Perth for more than 4 years I thought I would visit the Luck Shag when visiting Perth recently and see if it had changed.

It had changed a little, they have put glass up around the railings facing the water which is a good move as there can be quite a mean wind coming off the Swan at times.

The atmosphere was as great as it had ever been but not quite as busy as I remember. Probably people having Christmas parties. This place can get packed during the week (people from the CBD).

The views are wonderful, plenty of choices of beverage ranging from the connoisseur to the good old reliables. They have a wide range of food options which is more along the lines of pub meals but slightly lifted from that. I didn't try the food but it looked plentiful and edible.

The prices I can only assume must be in line with Perth but coming from Cairns, I nearly fell over when I bought the first 2 beers!

This place is a must for locals and visitors, just behind the pub is the Swan Bell Tower which is worth a look too.

This review is for Quest Townsville, Townsville QLD

I don't stay in Townsville very often but this one off I stayed at the Quest.

My work was paying for the stay but I knew how much the room cost and I was very impressed with the room size, quality and condition for the price.

There was a separate bedroom with a large lounge / dining / kitchen all with s/steel appliances and flat screen tv and dvd player.

A balcony at the front overlooking the action of the street below and looking out towards the boats is a great place to kick back at the end of a hard day.

It's in close proximity to numerous restaurants and pubs (in the same road) or a short walk over the bridge gets you into the city centre with plenty more options.

Next time you stay in Townsville, give this a go.

This review is for REX - Regional Airlines Express, Bathurst NSW

verified email - 20 Oct 2012

I have traveled on numerous regional commercial and charter aircraft companies and REX were pretty good.

The aircraft are comfortable, reliable and their friendly staff are always there.

I was pleasantly surprised to be served a hot breakfast as I am used to cold rubbish.

Only negatives with these small aircraft is the lack of entertainment, lucky I had my iPad ;-)

This review is for Ellis Beach Bar & Grill, Ellis Beach QLD

We've driven past this a number of times but never stopped. Very glad we stopped and we will do again. It's a great place to watch the world go by and have a meal, snack, ice cream or a cold beer.

Next time, don't just drive past, stop and try!

This review is for Yorkeys Knob Boating Club, Yorkeys Knob QLD

verified email - 20 Oct 2012

I have been to Yorkeys a number of times in the past but this particular night we went over with friends and used the courtesy coach so we could enjoy a few cleansing ales :-)

It's a wonderfully situated place to relax, watch the boats go by, see the waves coming in and the fish jumping, not to mention the great position if you are an avid plane spotter!

The service was in the bar area is always good and a good selection at sensible prices is always available. Unfortunately, this particular night, the restaurant service was very poor and they were very inflexible when there were a number of meals not available. Anyway, we all managed to finally select something to eat.

The food is of above average pub tucker / wanna be restaurant so it provides more than just anything and chips but not up to good restaurant standards but at very good prices.

The food was good, all was eaten although it took a couple of us a bit longer to go the final few yards!

What better place can you relax over the water with a cold beer, good friends, good food, and then be driven home....

Approximate cost: $19-28
