This review is for Subway, Browns Plains QLD

I like Subway. I've eaten at quite a few of them, and enjoy their food. This one, however, is a little disappointing. Every time I've been there the staff have been slow and unenthusiastic (even when they have no other customers). I don't think I'll go back there.

These guys do a little bit of everything. At first I thought they were just a Chinese Takeaway, but they do noodle box style stuff, as well as fish and chips.

The Chinese food is pretty good, and generally what you'd expect from a small place like this.

This review is for Friendly Grocer, Crestmead QLD

I miss living just around the corner from these guys in Crestmead. The staff are friendly, the range is great for a convenience store, and they stock Dr Pepper and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream! The prices are, of course, convenience store prices, not supermarket prices, but apart from that I used to pop in there a few times a week rather than go to Coles or Woolworths.

This review is for Pizza Hut, Browns Plains QLD

I've been here a few times and it's always a positive experience. My young daughter loves the fact that it's all you can eat, and takes it as an opportunity to try pizzas she might not normally try.

The place is always busy, and the staff are always friendly. The last time I was there, I don't think the girl that was bringing out the pizzas stopped for a second, constantly topping up the supply of hot, fresh pizzas, which is always a good sign.

I'm definitely going back there the next time my daughter is in town, or if I can find another excuse!

This review is for The Scratch Bar, Milton QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

If you like beer, you'll love The Scratch. They constantly change the beers they have on tap, and on the hand pump, which makes each visit unique. The staff are very well versed in the beers they offer, and each trip to The Scratch starts with a sample and history of the beers.

For a little hole-in-the-wall place, it is exceptionally comfortable and it's quite easy to sit there, sipping on great beer and enjoying great conversations. The collection of little treasures behind the bar is also a great conversation starter!

They don't mind you bringing your own food, and when I was there last, the local pizza place wandered down with pizzas that customers had ordered, which apparently is a common occurrence.

The staff are just amazing. My friend needed her phone charged and the wonderful staff plugged it in behind the bar for her. There are not many places where the staff would do that!

This review is for Apex Display, Tingalpa QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

A very well laid out store (as you would expect from a company selling display and shop fitting products). In fact, I'd go so far as to say the store looked perfect.

A very solid range of products, too, everything you'd expect to see and need when opening a shop.

The staff and their product knowledge, however, were somewhat lacking. I've worked in the shop fittings industry in the past (for 4 years) and even though I've not sold the stuff for about 5 years, I seemed to know more about their products than they did (which was a touch disappointing). I was going to ask them if they had any available positions, but after meeting a couple of the staff, the vibe of the place was just a little off, and I couldn't see myself being comfortable there.

Parking is also a bit of a problem, given their location.

This review is for A Night In India, Toowong QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

The best Indian place I've eaten at. The last time I was there I'd just come back from Melbourne and had eaten some rather bland Vindaloos, so I thought I'd try one here. Wow! My sinuses cleared up as soon as the plate hit the table, and I was in flavour country for the rest of the meal! My partner ordered the Butter Chicken and was very impressed (although she nearly wanted to sit at another table because my Vindaloo fumes were getting to her).

The service is excellent, the food is fantastic, and they were very accommodating when I took my young daughter there. If I didn't live so far away, I'd go there every week!

This review is for Bearded Dragon Tavern, Tamborine Mountain QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

The Bearded Dragon do the best ribs I've had outside of the USA. For $25 you get a full rack of pork ribs, chips and coleslaw. I've had it a few times and only once was the coleslaw a little disappointing. Everything else has been top notch every time.

There's something enjoyable about sitting in the sun, sipping a beer and tearing apart the ribs in a relaxing environment.

Choose what day you go, though, because sometimes they can be VERY busy. The last time I was there a table of about 40 people arrived before me, so there was a long wait. But, as always, it was well worth it.

And if you have the ribs, make sure you get plenty of napkins (or be ready to lick your fingers a lot).

This review is for Sushi Train, Sunnybank QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

I was a sushi sceptic until my friend dragged me to Sushi Train. Now it's become a regular part of my life. I've been to a few other sushi places, but this is the best one, to my mind.

I eat the same thing every time I go there (I keep trying to expand my range, but these are just too good) - Semi Dried Tomato roll, Hot Hot Chicken roll, Gyoza, and Creamy Croquette.

The staff are always fantastic and keen to help, the food is always fresh (and you can have anything made then and there on the spot for you) and I always feel full when I leave.

Parking can be a bit of a problem (especially on the weekends), so time your visit carefully.

This review is for Yatala Pies, Yatala QLD

verified email - 11 May 2013

The pies here are worth the drive from wherever you might live. I think of nothing to hop in the car to get my fix of pie goodness from these guys. And I'm not alone. The place is always busy, the lines are always long, and it's always worth the wait.

They do drive-thru, takeaway as well as eat in, but I find that I have to sit down and eat my pie straight away. There chips and gravy is also pretty good, and I always walk out of there wishing I could fit more food in.

They have a decent range of pies, pastries and so forth. The pies come in family and normal sizes. Potato, Gravy and Peas and available.

Parking can be a problem, they don't take EFTPOS (they do have an ATM instore, though), and they are always busy. But at the end of the day, the pies are always worth it. I even managed to convince a friend who "hates pies" to give them a chance, and she has been begging me to take her back there.
