Dr david hughes is absolutely incredible

Our much loved 9 year old Birman Cat was showing symptoms that all was not well with dilated pupils and laboured breathing. She was examined by Dr David Hughes. What I like is Dr Hughes prefers to work on facts rather than simply providing medication for symptoms. After a blood test for liver and diabetese and a chest x rays for laboured breathing, she was declared OK. He explained that the nose and eyes have a common nerve and a problem in one can affect the other and our cat probably had a simple cold that has now gone. Dr Hughes called us after hours with the results and came in specially to carry out the x ray. His diagnosis was excellent and the dedication and concern that he shows for his patients in exceptional. Thank you so much Dr Hughes for your exceptional standard of care and professionalism. You made an anxious family so happy. Peter Gregory

Without doubt the best vet around. Unlike the others in the area, they are not rip off merchants who encourage loads of unnecessary tests (that cost a fortune). Have been coming here for over 25 years and always had top care with TRUE ANIMAL LOVERS that practice here. Highly recommend

I've tried a lot of different vets and these guys are by far the best. The decisions and advice offered are about the pet, not how much cash they can squeeze out of you with endless tests etc. I find all the staff to be professional and caring and I love the fact that they have changed their system to offer both appointments and walk ins as well as emergency care. They even have an extra vet on to ensure the walk in wait is generally not too long. They have a lot of facilities here too that most of the more expensive vet clinics don't have such as ultrasound equipment for example. Finally the vets are all brilliant. I usually see David Hughes who in my opinion is really excellent at what he does and is very patient with both pets and owners lol, but I think I have seen every vet there by this stage and have been very happy with each of them. It's a very busy practice and it's true you might have to queue up to get to the front desk at times but that's the price you pay if you want highly qualified professionals without paying the exorbitant fees generally associated with a visit to the vet. It astounds me that people complain about queuing up here, if you want quicker service you should expect to pay the premium it requires to have additional staff just for front of counter. I'll take a bit of a wait at the front if it means I can afford to give my pets better health care and caring professionals to ensure they get the best treatment available

I take my dogs to this vet hospital. I think the vets are wonderful. Also, it's more affordable than other vets in the area. I don't mind waiting to see the vet, which depending on how busy they are, could be up to an hour. There are a couple of suggestions I'd like to make that I feel would make the whole experience a little more streamline.
Please ask your nurses/receptionists to be more friendly when a client's turn at the reception desk ( finally ) arrives. After all, some of us have stood patiently in line for up to 15/20 minutes with our pets. Some of the front desk staff address you as if you are a number and don't appreciate the fact that you've just stood in line for a long time . I know some people who wont return due to the impression they have first received from the staff manning the front desk.
Secondly, clients who have already seen the vet shouldn't have to wait in line ( yet again!) to pay their account. There should be a separate section for accounts.
Thirdly, PLEASE install some form queuing procedure. Perhaps a sign and two clearly designated lanes. This would avoid the " bunching" effect of clients , who never seem to know who exactly was next and this only adds to the stress after, often,a long wait.
In closing, I'd like to reiterate that this is a very good vet hospital. I will continue to take my pets there. My suggestions are made with respect , and I hope taken into consideration.
Thankyou.

Like most other reviewers here, my experiences with George and his staff have been excellent. The clinic is clean, pet-friendly, the prices are very affordable, but most of all - it is about the ANIMALS. I take all my cats and dogs to George and their health is of paramount importance to not him, but all his vets. They offer solutions where other vets give you an all-or-nothing approach (and usually at a high cost). Every time I leave Swan Vet's I know I have done the very best for my dear animals. I would also like to add that I have good friends who foster the elderly and very ill pets that people surrender to George. Not only does George ensure that these pets go to good loving last-homes, he also continues with their treatment either at a very minimal cost or free of charge. I don't know any other vets that do this, do you?

I moved my dog here from another vets because they were happy to cut his nails for me every six weeks...best part was they did it for free (but only when done by vet nurse). My adult dog had been fine at the previous vets, had no problem entering and was fine with the vet. At the new vets, first few visits were fine. When I went in there, the vet nurses would not let me go out with my dog while they cut his nails. On the third visit, he stunk really bad because of squirting anal glands. After this visit he pulled back every time I went near the door entering the vets, would end up horrendously shaking and dribbling from the mouth. I did not reward this behaviour by talking, patting or making eye contact when he did this. He just kept getting worse to the point where he started biting them and I would hear him squeeling like a pig every time they took him out the back. They started having to use a muzzle on him; he hated them so much that they could not even get the muzzle on or off so I had to start doing this. I asked them again if I could come out with my dog and they told me no! I have since moved him to another vets where his nails are cut while I am present and they do not have any problems with him. In saying this, I must ad that when I have seen the vetinarians, they have been most helpful and the cost has been cheaper than most other vets I have visited. I would not recommend this vet to another friend,

This is the best vet in Perth. George Huber has the reputation as an animal genious! He has saved my animals countless times day or middle of the night! Its like George has x-ray eyes! My 13 year old Heeler had a 3-4kg tumour removed by George and was not expected to survive. I said my teary goodbyes to him when I dropped him off for surgery. I called later that arvo and was told he had survived and George had removed the tumour (which was so big everyone took photos of it!), he is now turning 14 years old and full of life again. AMAZING! This cost me less than $500. (not that cost was important to me at this stage). This is just one example of what George has done for my babies. I have many more. I have met people in the clinic that come from Kalgoorlie, Scarborough, Gosnells and all over Perth to see George. Sometimes there is a wait but if it is an emergency you will take priority. Well done to all the girls as well they are great. Perfection is worth the wait! Don't ever leave George!

Our dog has been to Swan View Vet hospital 3 times now and every time there has been a little wait that has been completely worth it. Every staff member there is helpful and have helped us to keep our vet bills down without compromising the care given to our dog.

I moved to Ellenbrook a couple of years ago, and my new local vet there had recommended that I spend over $3,000 on operations to resolve my ageing dog's leg problems even though her regular previous vet did not recommend operating because of her age. They said it was unlikely she would survive the operation alone at her age. Recovery would be difficult.
I didn't feel my local vet's to be very 'friendly' or very helpful.
The cost was too much as I am on a pension, so after discussion about the quality of life for my girl, and much soul searching I decided to let her go.
Swan Veterinary Hospital was recommended to me by a friend, and I decided to take my dog there. The vet who did the procedure was David, who was caring compassionate and very understanding during the visit, but transport is a problem for me as I do not own a car.

I was still seeing the local vet because I could walk my new dog there.
However I will now only see vets at the Swan Veterinary Clinic as my local vet failed to pick up a potentially life threatening condition in my new pup even though I had told them of symptoms.

Due to an emergency, I took my pup to the Swan Clinic. A second opinion was given by George after the vet nurse queried and clarified details.
After checking my pup and all the symptoms she had been displaying since I'd had her, I was told her condition was apparently quite obvious and she was treated accordingly. This was done without the tests usually given for her condition which would have cost me close to $900 alone.
After being sterilized, my poor dog also rejected the internal stitches, and formed a major infection which took numerous returns to the vet. I was only charged for the medication, and not the return consults.
On one occasion George even got on to the floor to let my dog sniff him better as she was quite anxious at having to attend the vet's. I was informed and explained about her condition, what to look out for, and what treatment is required. My dog will need ongoing treatment for her whole life.

My pup gets easily stressed. Even waiting for an appointment in the waiting room at the clinic can stress her further. To avoid this David was happy to treat her for regular shots outside on the veranda.
I have even seen vets go out to cars to treat animals in the parking lot.

Sometimes there is a long wait as this practice does not specify appointment times except for operations etc.
However I would also like to point out that perhaps the amount of people prepared to wait would show the level of satisfaction and faith that customers have for the service offered by this practice.
All of the staff at this service care about the animals treated there, and this is evident of their interactions not just with the owners but with the animals themselves. My dog may not talk as we do, but she is also not ignored, she is greeted and acknowledged, patted etc as well during the visit with the vet.

I have rarely met anyone even at my local dog park that has not been happy with Swan Veterinary Hospital's service. A lot of the other dog owners I speak to at the dog park also use this service even though the local vet is within walking distance.

The savings to me as a pensioner have already been over $1000 so far, and from what I can tell even the services offered by the practice to non pensioners are often cheaper as well.

I would recommend this practice to anyone, and have already done so.
