This is a great place for kids. There are a lot of interactive features and play areas. For adults, the safari is excellent and an experience unique to this zoo. Apart from the safari, however, it only took around 30 minutes to make our way around the rest of the zoo (at a leisurely pace) leaving us feeling quite underwhelmed.

It's been a while since I've been to the Werribee Zoo and I loved it back then. I only live 5 mins from there so you have given me an incentive to go back again and enjoy a day in my local area - thanks

lovely and unique zoo where it's open and you can get up close to animals! (in a car of course) tour guides are informative and friendly and given the costs it's not too bad i would go again for special occasions

This is one of our favourite local attractions. Plan on spending the whole day; there is PLENTY to see! Pack a lunch or eat in the cafe. Nothing fancy but plenty of normal "quick foods". The layout of the zoo feels realistic. It's like trekking through a jungle in places. :) There are interesting signs and photo opportunities throughout the park. The hippo area is AMAZING, and we love the new gorilla exhibit! Don't miss out on the safari bus tour, it's the highlight of the Open Range zoo. Can't say enough good things about this place! We'll be going again and again and AGAIN!

I hadn't been to Werribee Open Range Zoo for over 5 years and it has improved and changed a lot from the last time we were there. The entrance is new; the gorillas now reside on the island, the wild dogs now our exhibited. We opted to pay the premium for the Jeep Safari and really enjoyed it. We were able to get up and close to a lot of the animals especially the rhinos, giraffes to name a few. The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable which also helped to make the experience well worthwhile. The highlight however was seeing the baby rhino and baby hippopotamus! Can't wait for the new bandicoot and native animal area to be completed.

Only recently did I got to Werribee zoo and I can't believe I hadn't been sooner. The safari tour is the best part of it as some of the animal come right up to the bus. I never thought I would get that close to a giraffe and it was an amazing experience. The tour drivers were very knowledgable and explained so much about the animals and the habitat that had been created for them. Definitely bring your kids here if you think they will enjoy a more up close experience of nature.

Took my family here when they came from overseas and honestly it was an experience we will never forget.
We did opt out for the individual - more expensive - tour guide and it was incredible. We were driven around by an extremely friendly staff member. He took us off the normal track of the tour and we got up close to all the animals, even the rhinos! The animals are considered 'wild' since they are free to roam around the open area. A giraffe came towards us and my son had the opportunity to touch it. Was truly wonderful. Was unbelievably expensive but absolutely worth every cent.
When my family come down next year we will definitely be staying in their hotel and see the moonlit sanctuary that they offer.

Approximate cost: $100

My kids love going here. I take them every school holidays. Its free for kids on the holidays and weekends. My girls love the elephants and meer Kats and love going on the tour bus. The food is very expensive so we take a picnic and sit on the grass and eat it. Its a fantastic day out for my family and never gets boring

Great place to take the whole family - all ages will enjoy the zoo!
Its not super expensive to get in which makes it even better!
You could spend hours and hours here, looking at all the animals and taking photos.

I went to the Werribee Open Range Zoo and booked in for the Meet & Greet with a Giraffe. It was one of the most memorable things i've ever done. It was an awesome experience that i highly recommend. We got to feed the giraffes and they came down right above your head. They were huge but gentle. It was only about $70 at the time. A fantastic price.
