I love this zoo. My son loves seeing the animals here. The safari is worthwhile doing if you can afford it but even without it the kids have a fun day, you just don't see as many animals.

We did not see many animals but the kids had a fun day. The staff were also polite and helpful.
I believe that this zoo should get better over time as more and more people visit.

It's a great fun day out especially for the kids, but if you're going for the animals you better go see Melbourne Zoo as they don't have that many animals here and with the open range tour sometimes they may be hiding/sleeping and you can't see them anyway.

I took my 12 year old sons and their friend to the zoo during the school holidays and was thinking before I got there that this wouldnt work because they'd be too grown up and "cool" for it but I couldnt be more wrong. Its been a few years since I have been to Werribee zoo and am happy to report that it is still excellent and value for money. The safari ride is a must as its the only way you'll get to see the truly big animals such as the rhinos (awesome!) and the giraffes, however the walk around is cool as well because they've got hippos and lions and cheetahs and gorillas - all in large spaces and obviously well maintained. I'd recommend bringing your own food and drink however as they gouge you something fierce at the shops there.

I recently took my 3 year old to the zoo and we stayed there all day! He didn't want to leave. The safari bus ride was fantastic and the giraffes in particular we're in great form, walking right beside the bus. One even started licking the roof of the bus! There is also a lot to see around the zoo, the gorillas, hippo, lions and meerkats were highlights. Lots of places where you can stop and have a picnic or a rest. There is a playground and a stage where the kids can get up and have a dance along with the musicians on the big screen. We will be back soon! Contemplating on getting a friends of the zoo membership.

We had a great time at the open plain zoo.
We did join the friends of the zoo and from that you get discount's in the shop and notice on what's going on in all three zoo's in Vic + it's nice to feel you have done a little something for Victoria's zoo's.

It is well worth a bus ride through the zoo as you get to feel so close to the animal. There are other Zoo experience's you can take also as well as night one's.

There is a canteen there for hot food if you wish or get a pass out to collect your picnic.

Heaps of parking, Disable parking.

I recently took my boys to this zoo and we loved it. It was set up to educate adults and kids alike about various African and Australian fauna and the staff did this with a passion. The keepers are very friendly and helpful and the experience is similar to that of an African safari. We have since been back and had another unique experience. When we went the restaurant was being renovated and a catering company was providing hot food. This food was poor quality and grossly over priced, so recommend you take a picnic until the restaurant is functional again. This zoo has become a regular event for the boys and I, highly recommended.

My family and I love visiting the Werribee Zoo. We have been about 4 or 5 times now and each time we have been we seem to find something new or different. The Bus ride around the Zoo is very interesting and it has a feel like you are actually out in the Jungles or Africa.

A great day for all from young to old!

My family really enjoy going to the Werribee Zoo. The bus ride is great, as children get a chance to see a lot without having to walk long distances. There is pram storage for while you are on the bus which is handy. There is plenty of space to wander and areas to sit and have a picnic. Overall, it is a great family outing.

We went in the summer school holidays when they had the 'African Nights'. Although we enjoyed spending the day looking at the animals and going on the bus safari, the highlight was dancing and enjoying the music at night. We took a picnic tea so it worked out not too expensive, the kids loved it.

This is a great experience for children. The bus ride is great and loved by adults and children. Take a picnic and have on the lawns there as the cafe is quite expensive. A highly recommended day out for children and adults.

This open range zoo is just awesome- and the staff are simply amazing. I took a group of Aged Care residents to the zoo and the staff could not do enough to help and accommodate us. There is so much to see and it is wonderful to see the animals in such natural looking surroundings.

We go there whenever we have interstate/international visitors. The line up to get in on weekends can be a bit of a problem but the bus tour is great. Staff are friendly and know what they are talking about, makes the day enjoyable. The enclosure sets ups make it possible to get very close, great for photos.

Fantastic set up! The behind the sceneds tours, especially the Giraffe tall encounter, is amazing. Great zoo to take young kids or older people that don't enjoy walking for any great distance.

Approximate cost: $25 (extra for behind the scenes tours)

Took too long to get in but once inside the bus tour was sensational. I took my own lunch and they have great grounds to enjoy your lunch. I took the kids and they really enjoyed it. I will think of going back again each year

I've been to the zoo many times and found the tours wonderful. I have always had a close seat to a window so no complaints. I've also had my wedding at the zoo, both ceremony and reception. The staff were brilliant, even when i had a guest collapse, quick response and they took good care of my guest. I definitely recommend having a wedding there. My guests were still talking about my wedding months later. Absolutely beautiful!

Service was fantastic!!! Arrived by motorbike and were planning on carrying our jackets and helmets with us until the lady at the ticket box told us we could put them in the office and pick them up on the way out. This was great as it was a hot day and didn't want to carry them around all afternoon. She also said she would keep and eye on the bike.

The Werribee Zoo is really nice and a great opportunity to venture out to see African animals that aren't locked in small cages but rather roaming free. The safari is good as long as you get a window seat. It is really impressive when they have the evenings in the zoo in summer with the African music and activities for kids.

I had heard mixed reviews about Werribee Zoo so I wasn't sure what to expect overall. We went as a family and found it to be good, but not spectacular. They are obviously limited by space, and whilst it's good to see some animals you might not normally see at the regular zoo, I didn't feel they had anything particularly unique worth raving about. In saying that we did have a nice day out, the gardens are nice and the animals were good. I found the safari tour was good but not great - if you were seated in the middle of the bus, catching a glimpse out the windows beyond other people at each end is not ideal. It's good to see things at least once but I wouldn't rush back - the regular zoo has a lot more to see and experience in general in my opinion.

Approximate cost: $23.00 per adult
