For the price, $290/night for the cheap rooms, this is the worst hotel I have ever experienced.

It is advertised as ski in ski out. This is true and the hotel benefits from a good location. However there is no ski storage, except for a tiny room that no-one uses. This room itself is up three flights of winding stairs. Within this room it is impossible to lock modern skis because they don't fit in the locks. There are also lockers but they are mesh cage lockers meaning that the boots in the locker above will drip cold water into your boots. People also leave their equipment on top of the lockers meaning that even the top row of lockers doesn't guarantee that wet snow won't drip into your ski boots.
As a result, most people keep their ski boots in their rooms, which means that the rooms smell damp and dirty - and each morning you have to carry your skis down three flights of stairs.
Our room was a "fernery" room. This meant that we had a view of a wall, a pipe and the corner of one fern leaf through our bedroom window.

Our bathroom was tiny and didn't have a window in the sense of a piece of glass that completely filled the window frame.. it had one bit that nearly went to the top and another bit a few inches further out that nearly went to the bottom. This was no doubt to stop the room getting damp because everyone dries their ski gear in it...

The bathroom door fell off the track on the first day and straight into my girlfriend's head. The bathroom was so small that you had to leave it to dry yourself.

The room was missing a hair dryer (useful if it's minus 4C outside). We asked for one. We would have phoned down but the room was also missing a phone.

The kettle didn't turn itself off and subsequently jetted boiling water all over the surface it was on if you didn't keep a close eye on it - in order to turn it off at the wall.

There was a double bed in the room and two singles. The foam mattress on the double bed was such that if one of us rolled over, then the other one woke up. We pushed the two single beds together.

The doonas weren't thick enough for the cold meaning that we took all the doonas and the blankets in order to be warm at night. They were dark coloured and the sheets weren't changed daily.

We left our towels in the shower one day to be changed and returned to find our towels still in the shower.

The doors all along the corridors were fitted with closing mechanisms that meant that they slammed from 7:30 till 11:00am and again from 4pm to 1am. The hotel was not build sufficiently robustly for this not to be a problem.

The wardrobe had a broken drawer that hadn't been repaired. The hangers were the crap two part sort that means you can't hang your clothes to dry anywhere other than in the wardrobe.

The continental breakfast was just toast, cereal and fruit. If you went to the continent they are referring to, it would have been Africa rather than Europe. Continental breakfast in a hotel that costs $300 a night is not toast, cereal and fruit.

The one redeeming feature of the hotel was the kind and friendly staff who did their very best to make sure we had a good stay.

In addition to staying in the hotel, we ate in the hotel and the food was good - albeit at the high price end. We expected this on the mountain, but the quality and value provided by the hotel was not expected and unforgivable at this price.

Approximate cost: $300

The food is great but the restaurant has a funny ambiance. There's no soft furnishing and it sounds a bit echoey.

There's also an enormous TV in there that they could do with throwing away. It's distracting and the main reason that we use the place for takeaway and don't eat in.

Approximate cost: $25

Excellent service and range of goods. Much cheaper for most books than Australian book shops...

Works out cheaper if you get a big order and you don't mind slow delivery.

Good friendly guys and a TV so you can watch top gear while they cut your hair. Reasonably priced good hair cuts and never usually much of a wait.

Just done bay street from the station. Would be good if they were open for cuts after work maybe.

Food is great and restaurant has calm relaxed atmosphere. The fire is great in the winter.

Staff can be offish sometimes, but this is variable. It's a shame because it lets the place down.

Approximate cost: $15

Gym is well stocked with machines. Machines are not always very well maintained.

Big corporate gym that's full of adverts, promotions and TVs - ok if you like that sort of thing

Approximate cost: $120
