Here speaks an American: You must want to know how an Australian Steak Sandwich is 10x better than any American Steak Sandwich, right? You can taste the difference in the meat, which came from healthy grass-fed cows. Right there, that's a real eyebrow raiser. Meat in America never tastes this good. Then you put it on a quality ciabatta roll, let the Aussies add on generous amounts of onion, tomato, and the rocket arugula, and Ta-dah! Wash it down with beer.

This lovely old pub, dating from 1828, in the quirky Rocks area of Sydney, at the lower end of George Street is an absolute must for those seeking a little bit of Australia's past. It has not been plasticised, or made chic and trendy, but retains the authentic air of its true character. The narrow entrance bar is all you would want in a pub, noisy, busy, serving a fine selection of decent beers. Walk through to the First Fleet Bar, with walls lined with drawings of the 12 ships of that First fleet, and passenger lists of those ships to find a veritable who's who of Sydney society and history. Outside is usually posted a board with daily menu specials to add to the limited regular menu of bar meals. Upstairs there is a tiny restaurant serving meals, all of which are generous, freshly prepared and delicious. A short wine list is available for the non beer drinkers, all served up by a cheerful , friendly team of waiters. This is a perfect spot for those seeking a good value meal in a very touristy area, and a welcome break from sightseeng.

A visit to have a drink in this bar is a must whilst in Sydney. Situated under the Hilton Hotel Sydney. Built in the late 1800's in Sydney, then dismantled and reassembled in 1968 in its current location. Beautiful dark timber bars, marble columns, ornate ceilings, stained glass and art work. My advice though is go for a drink early evening, as it is very popular late evening, and with many patrons you can't admire the building. Opens at 4 pm every day. Worth a look.

This is such a great thing to help kids overcome fears and challenge themselves. Very safe, great staff and great value. Because the courses get gradually more challenging as you go, kids (and adults) grow in their confidence as they realise a slip is not certain doom, just another obstacle. If you have a kid who is 8 or older and is taller than 1.25 metres, this is highly recommended. We had a ball. Thanks Urban Jungle.

Bistro Papillion is stunning! The restaurant is tiny, with enough room for about 10 tables and was really evocative of restaurants in Paris. Many of the staff are French, and the service is excellent. The menu has some fantastic French treats on there, and the Pâté de Foie for a starter was sensational. For main we had the Filet de Boeuf which again was delicious. This was washed down with a very nice bottle of Loire Valley Vin Blanc which for $43 was excellent. All in all we loved Bistro Papillion and we will definitely be back.

Visiting Sydney with friends and decided we'd like to go French for dinner. This restaurant was recommended by another local friend who joined us. Atmosphere was good although wait staff seemed to be a little disorganised at times. Wasn't busy when we arrived but tempo picked up after a while. Menu offered great choices and between us we had a range of dishes including escargot, goat's cheese salad, beef cheeks, rabbit, steak and duck, not to mention several desserts. I have had better escargot but the rabbit was delicious. A couple of bottles of French red topped it off. All up, a pretty good night and pretty decent food.

Had an anniversary here with my girlfriend and it was just right for what we wanted. Great food, lovely service, not outrageously priced, great wine list and not too stuffy. We shared our carpaccio and duck liver pate entrees which were superb.Mains were steak and fish and both excellent.Profiterole dessert was good, have had better, but certainly OK.And the wine list was excellent, combo of French and local, all matching the menu really well. Can't fault this rest, would recommend to anyone.

This review is for Cafe Sydney Restaurant, Sydney NSW

had initial high expectations for the quality and service of the restaurant Café Sydney. This was a treat for my mother, and wanted it to be a surprise. When we arrived at the restaurant we were immediately blown away at the service and wonderful views. There was also soft jazz music playing in the background. Staff were very friendly, greeting us, asking us how our day was before assigning someone to show us to our tables. Upon being shown our table they asked if we would like to put our jackets in the cloak room and gave me a personalised card with the id number on. They also immediately served us with drinks and ensured our napkins were placed firmly on our knees. They gave us an assortment of menus, one for drinks, savoury, specials and desserts, which were all presented in professional black folders. The quality of each minute detail from the table, cloth, assortment of wines in the cabinet and clear views over the harbour enhanced my experience. The chef handling the food at the kitchen was also of a high standard, which transferred over to the quality and taste of the food. At first I only planned on trying out two dishes, but the first dish was so spectacular, I had to order another. The total price was around one hundred dollars, which may seem a little pricey, but it was all so worth it.

This review is for Restaurant Atelier, Glebe NSW

I've been to Restaurant Atelier three times now and it has definitely become a "must-do" each time I'm in Australia. It's small, intimate and quiet, despite the wood floors, the food is to die for and the waiters were friendly and knowledgeable. The entrees were amazing: king prawn with charred baby cos, smoked pork belly, dashi radish, black olive and yarrow leaf and liquorice-cured venison loin, fresh fig, picked purplette, rosa radish and bronze fennel. We opted for a special not on the menu, a wonderful cooked-to-perfection lamb shoulder that just fell off the bone with only a slight nudge. This was served with an interesting combination of potatoes and roast peppers. Oh, nearly forgot! An amuse-gueule was offered before the entree, a juicy single Japanese scallop on a corn sauce with some fresh herbs and some unusual leaves whose name I don't recall. That certainly aroused the taste buds.

This review is for Le Pelican, Darlinghurst NSW

We had the pleasure of dining at Le Pelican on New Years' Eve and couldn't have been happier with the ambience, the food and the friendly service. The goat's curd, red pepper sorbet and Serrano crisp not only looked quite striking but was also a wonderful blend of texture and flavour. The Christmas pudding souffle, served with Armangac ice cream, was a standout. Can't wait to visit again. Many thanks for the experience.
