Ruth's daughter was going to take here here last year but never got there so we decided to go for our birthdays. We were delighted with the ambience when we entered and the exposed kitchen. We asked for another table than the one offered as it was next to a large group of happy young women and our request was met without fuss. Likewise a misunderstanding about one of our orders, the service is very good indeed and the food excellent. We chose to share three entree dishes and then have the shared five dessert platter by which time we could not eat or drink another thing. We both thought our wines were great but it came in the glass and we were chatting and did not get around to asking about it, our loss. We had a superb lunch with wine for $55 each, good value and a different meal which made a welcome change. Well worth the drive from the south eastern suburbs.

If there were no guidelines for this review, I would write "sensational" and leave it at that but here goes.
This buffet is served in a beautiful room overlooking the Yarra and Melbourne Skyline. The tables are beautifully set and the buffet is packed with variety, quality, appetising food. Everything I tried, and I tried a lot, was superb. No dishes ever looks low or empty any time I went back, I had soup, sushi, salad, vegetables, meat, a little of anything I fancied. Then I got to the desserts, they were beautifully presented, some in small portions, some help yourself, and the icecream was really special. Each time I returned to our table, my serviette was re-folded and in place and our water glasses constantly refreshed. Conversing with other diners, it seems it is the choice for special occassions and patrons were friendly and upbeat, it was just a lovely place to dine. Treat yourself!

We went here during The Age Good Food Week offer, opting for the fixed price, set menu $40 deal. We had the choice of two courses and a glass of wine, and a cup of coffee. We both opted for the main, chicken and the dessert, which had the interesting name "mess."
Our wine was served very promptly and although the advertised red wine was not available, a substitute was offered in the package price. We were offered a taste for approval, a nice touch. Warm dinner rolls were served soon after the wine, and bottled tap water.

Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. A dropped serviette was whisked away and replaced, photographs taken and some friendly chat exchanged.

Our meals were excellent, the presentation, taste, everything was just right. I used my last piece of roll to wipe the plate, it was so tasty I did not want to waste a drop.
The "mess" arrived and it was not your average pretty dessert, but oh boy, it was wonderful. Berries scattered in cream with some lovely sauce, the tastes all blended in and the blueberries were the best I have ever had.
The coffee was excellent too and we agreed it was a very nice meal.
The atmosphere is very much a cafe, it was crowded and noisy but we were able to comfortable converse and the table next to us was comfortable distant.

All the staff were pleasant and helpful and the regular menu looked inviting. Most St Kilda Road trams stop very close by and this offer was excellent value for money.

Six ladies who meet for lunch, something for everyone. I started with antipasto, had sushi for entree, tepanyaki salmon, and butter chicken with stirfry vegetables before giving the dessert display my most decadent Attention. On this visit it was disappointing to find the fruit offering greatly reduced compared to previous visits. It is unacceptable to be given a chipped milk jug, but the variety of food means I will return.

We chose Steve's for the location, and were very glad we did. Decor, welcome, service all excellent, but the food, it was perfect. Neither of us enjoyed the coffee but hopefully that was a one off bad bean day. Pity they are not open for lunch Saturdays, my regular ladies lunch would like to go.

No difficulty parking, pleasant decor and atmosphere. Service a little slow considering we mentioned we were on the way to a movie. Generous portion for my chicken salad. Lunch menu was limited, very little appealed to me.

We had the lunch offered for the Good Food Week, two courses, a glass of wine and a coffee for 40 dollars each. I had the pate entry and the fish of the day, blue eye. Both excellent. We did not expect the bread while we waited for our meal, nor the dessert wine after. My companion asked for her steak to be well done, and got it! Very pleasant decor, friendly staff, outstanding value.
