Since my last review of this business (see below) I am sorry to say that at the moment (in my opinion) it only rates barely two stars as the general shopping experience has deteriorated markedly. Yesterday (Monday) we went to this store to purchase milk which was advertised in the specials catalogue at a reduced price. We arrived there to find that the milk had not been delivered at this point of time. We sought out a staff member (which took some time) and she told us that it would be delivered some time that day. She took our name and 'phone number and told us that she would give us a call when it came it. We then went to do other shopping while we were there, four of the items were also in the specials catalogue and two were at normal prices. At the checkout my wife realised that one of the items was scanned at the normal price and not the special price, after confirming the catalogue price we were reimbursed the appropriate amount. It was not until we arrived home and checked the items that we found two other special items had been scanned at the normal price. Later that day my wife 'phoned to see if the milk had been delivered and the staff member advised us that it would be arriving after 3.00pm. She also mentioned the discrepancy between the marked specials and the scanned price and was told that the staff had not yet removed the special prices tag from the specials that ended on Sunday. But it was obvious that some of the new specials that started on Monday had not been altered accordingly on the registers. In summary, of the seven items that we went shopping for, one of the specials had not yet been delivered, another two had been changed at normal price and another one was scanned correctly, and we were reimbursed for another one specials item. Of the regularly priced items that we required, one had not been refilled onto the shelf. The following day at about 10.00am we received a 'phone call advising us that the milk had arrived but we told her that we had since purchased the product at another store and would not be requiring it from them. This whole experience resulted in our paying over $6.00 more than we should have. Beware of this store and check all dockets before leaving the store especially where specials are concerned.

We had a 'phone call from Green Home Green Planet the other day offering an assessment of our energy usage and the possibility of some energy and money saving tips. We have had lighting globes and a low flow shower head, and a stand-by power saver fitted by this company previously so we agreed to a representative to call. When the rep arrived he introduced himself as Colin Gerrard and he was a Globe Exchange Contractor, a Home Energy Assessor and is Government certified. We immediately found Colin to be very polite, friendly and easy to talk to. As he thoroughly proceeded with his assessment it appeared that we had most bases covered however his expertise would be invaluable in assisting some one else who had some energy problems in their home. At the completion of the assessment he gave us a copy of his findings and any recommendations regarding any savings which could be made. As this is a free service to pensioners I would definitely recommend this Company in general and Colin in particular to visit any fellow pensioners home and to avail themselves of this free service, it could save you money.

This review is for Transperth, Perth WA

We have been to Perth a couple of times now 2007 and 2011. The first time the city was preparing for the new line to Mandurah and made a bit of a bottleneck around the area. In 2011 we took the train to Mandurah and the trip was fantastic. The trains in W.A. are a credit to your state, minimal graffiti, quiet, clean and comfortable. Once we got used to the ticketing machines train travel over here was a piece of cake. The train to Fremantle although a bit short was also worth the effort. The 'Cats' are also a pleasure to ride on, with the Blue, Yellow and Red buses scheduled to get you almost anywhere you need to go around the city and environs. I can't speak too highly about the Transperth system, it makes the S.A. system look pitifully out dated and out classed.

This review is for Railway Mineral And Train Museum, Broken Hill NSW

We have been to Broken Hill a number of times and never been to the Railway Museum but this time travelling to the Silver City on the Indian Pacific, with trains already in our blood, this time was a must. Admission rate was more than reasonable at $4 for adults or $3 concession. There is a great display of minerals and stones etc plus a hospital and ambulance display and looking at the first ambulance which was just a covered litter with 4 bike wheels one would have probably died from the ambulance ride rather than from the original affliction. The locomotives and trains on display were awesome and take you back to yesteryear which really wasn't that long ago. Looking at the "comfort" of the old cream and green carriages then updating to the carriages of the Silver City Comet one could see that there was a vast difference especially after just travelling on the "opulence" of the Indian Pacific, train travel has certainly improved out of sight. This was a thoroughly enlightening and interesting experience climbing aboard the various trains and carriages and was an adventure not to be missed.

This review is for T.J.s Cafe, Broken Hill NSW

This little cafe was well decorated with plants and attention made at embellishing the walls and surroundings The food was very good and tasty. The pies and pasties were all home made with plenty of filling, the ham and cheese roll was served hot and was scrumptious and the chips and gravy was more than a meal with a generous serve. The business is advertised for sale so it will be interesting to see if this site continues to be a cafe as such when the sale goes through.

This review is for Silver City Mint And Art Centre, Broken Hill NSW

The Silver City Mint and Art Centre has got the lot and it was hard to categorise this shop. It has a variety of hand made jewellery including pendants, bracelets and neck laces. There is a chocolate factory with a variety of chocolate goodies. There is a variety of different artists with their work on show and for sale and the daddy of them all The Big Picture. This measures 100 meters long and 12 meters wide at its highest point and as you walk into the room it surrounds you. This is the worlds largest acrylic painting on canvas by a single artist. There are also ants, scorpions, spiders, dragon flies, kangaroos, lizards and many more creatures to purchase. There is much more to see and purchase in this unique building. Well worth a visit.

The Broken Hill Visitor Information Centre is an interesting and informative venue to seek out activities and things to do in Broken Hill. The staff were friendly and helpful when seeking advice on interesting places to see and other leisure activities. There were also a good range of souvenirs like pens, caps, stubby holders, magnets, animals place mats cards and other memorabilia of Broken Hill and surrounding areas. There is also a cafe for a coffee or a bite to eat.

This review is for All Seasons Hotel, Broken Hill NSW

We stayed at The All Seasons Hotel during the stopover of the Indian Pacific. We were met at the station by a courtesy cab and conveyed to the hotel. The friendly staff at the reception desk outlined details of our stay and were most helpful. The rooms, although a tad small were very clean, well maintained, cosy and comfortable. Breakfast was included in the mornings and the fridge was stocked with lots of drinking and eating goodies, available for a price. They are in the process of renovating the pool area and other aspects of the hotel which when finished will make it even better and more comfortable. A cab was also available for transportation back to the station. Well worth a visit and quite a reasonable price.

This review is for Barrier Social Democratic Club, Broken Hill NSW

The Demo Club, as it is referred to locally is a bright, spacious and modern club with good facilities and friendly staff. The meal we had here was excellent even though is was from the specials board, very reasonably priced and a good plentiful serve. A choice of salad from the salad bar was very good and saved being served "rabbit food". The wine list was quite good and varied and the price was very reasonable. Great venue for pokies and comfortable seats whilst playing keno. There was even a darts match in progress the night we were there. Totally comfortable and relaxing club for having a meal, a quiet drink, playing pokies or just sitting around having a quiet think to contemplate your next move.

This review is for Broken Hill Musicians Club, Broken Hill NSW

verified email - 20 Jul 2012

The Broken Hill Musicians Club is a nice, bright, roomy and modern club just about opposite the railway station. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient but the lady behind the counter taking the orders was rather abrupt and not very obliging. The meal we ordered was a bit of a disappointment and not what we expected not much fish but plenty of rabbit food. Perhaps if we had ordered from the main menu instead of from the specials board we would probably have got a better meal but usually specials are reasonably priced and quite acceptable. Good and reasonably priced wine list.
