This is a great Japanese place tucked away in the heart of Sydney. The food is tasty and fresh and the service is not too bad. The best thing though is the price - it's always cheap and the prices haven't increased since three year-ago when I started eating here. The Tempura is the best!

Approximate cost: $10-$20

This is my local sandwich shop and they do a pretty good job. They make burgers and sell chicken and chips but my favourite are the salads. The salads are made fresh and are so delicious! I always go back every month or so!

Approximate cost: $10

This place is pretty popular for tiny but tasty cupcakes. I prefer the small size but they are still very expensive. They have a range of flavours including gourmet ones and they have a tuesday special - 12 gourmet babycakes for $12. It's good for a treat, they are moist and pretty yummy!

Approximate cost: $0.90 for one babycake

This review is for Baja Cantina, Glebe NSW

I went to Baja Cantina for a birthday and this was before they were on that restaurant renovation show on channel nine so things might have changed. Anyway, service was ok but the food is described as being "real mexican" not the tex mex Australians are used to although to be honest, I prefer tex mex if this authentic stuff is just black beans and corn chips and that's considered a nachos dish! The sangria is nice though and the corn chips are home made although a little oily.

Approximate cost: $18-25

I threw my 21st bash here and it was a really good and reasonably-priced venue to pick. The location makes it a great spot because you can head to the City or Cross after wards. The senior staff were really nice, the owner even came up to the party and bought me a shot! The food is a really good deal, I paid for $500 for about 70 people and that is unheard of these days. It wasn't frozen stuff either but nice stuff like gourmet salmon wraps and homemade sausage rolls - all the guests comment on how great the food was. They also ahve standard drinks and fancy mixed drinks using organic pear vodka and things, lots of diff. beers on tap too! The decor is also pretty awesome, it's got nature motifs and soft lighting. Also got all the techno stuff sorts like ipod dock and sound and tv for presentations. Couldn't recommend it anymore!

Approximate cost: $15-20

I have attended two functions at the Camperdown Hotel - one was not-so-great and the other was awesome. The finger food menu isn't bad and you get what you pay for, so make sure you feed your guests well! The hotel staff are pretty flexible with arrangements for birthdays and stuff to do with decorations and entertainment (one birthday girl was allowed a drag queen and band).

Approximate cost: $n/a

Was feeling hungry and lazy one day and decided to order some food from this place as it has lunch time delivery (as I said was hungry and lazy :D). They sell fish and chips and burgers. The delivery was pretty fast and the prices are what you'd expect from any fish and chip store. The burger I had was delicious - might have tasted better because I was so hungry but the calamari rings I had and piece of fish ordered by my companion was oily, greasy and battered rather than crumbed but I guess you would expect that when you get fish and chips. There's an $18 minimum spent but ok if you split cost between two people.

Approximate cost: $18+

Visited the shop to look at arrangements for my 21st birthday party and the staff were very helpful and patient with picking out colour combinations and different balloon sizes (they even had 3 foot balloons!). Ended up getting a great arrangement which was white, black, silver and metallic green with a clear balloon at the top with smaller coloured balloons inside. Delivery was a reasonable price and it looked great on the night!

Approximate cost: $0-$200

I ordered a croquembouche from Bill for my 21st birthday and it was amazing! Bill makes the cake himself which really cuts down the costs and he can deliver or you can pick up from his home. When I was looking for quotes for my croquembouche this was one of the cheapest places and there are many options to choose from, just look at all the hunger-inducing photos on the website. Couldn't recommend Bill anymore! Also, to top it off everyone commented on how great the croquembouche looked and tasted at the party! :D

Approximate cost: $0-$200

This place is a bit hit and miss. The crowd there is great and the decor is really different and interesting - think splashes of warm, velvet red, black and white framed photos, candles and even a animals head mounted on the wall! It is cosy and initimate vibe the only thing that lets it down is the slow service. We went for the $20 pizza night and pizzas that are ordered get forgotten about so we have to re-order. Also, their cocktail specials only have three types to choose from but changes from week-to-week. My friend and I ordered at separate times and they charged different amounts...strange.

Approximate cost: $10-20
