This review is for Dome, Surry Hills NSW

Dome is the venue space / swish bar and restaurant connected to Crown Hotel, it's usually closed off for private parties. There's an elevator to go up to the room and the decor is very nice - splashes of red, very decadent. They have cocktails and great lighting. Only downside is that the menu is expensive because of the gourmet choices and there's only one bar. This place should be saved for special occasions!

This is where I go for my regular brow wax and although it is pricey ($25) compared to places in the suburbs, it's definitely worth it. I think it's better to know you'll get a good result every time rather than pay half price and it be hit and miss. Anyway, really good and friendly service here. They will fix your make-up after the treatment and they also send you an sms to remind you of your appointment too. You can also get a loyalty card to get a free brow wax for every 5. So it really works out at $20 a wax, winner!

This review is for Suki Hairdressing, Paddington NSW

I went here to get my hair done for my 21st birthday as it was located close to the venue I was having my party. It's a really nice place and you definitely get what you pay for. I have a sensitive scalp and they made special arrangements for me to get my hair washed with sulfate-free shampoo. I just needed a blow-dry with curls and they did a really fantastic job. Service was very polite and friendly for an up-market salon and they offered beverages while there. The only downside was that the hairdressers do try to upsell you products and it is pricey but for the location and experience it's really top notch. At least you get what you pay for, not like some other places where yo pay a lot and they still do a dodgy job! I would save this place for special occassions :)

This review is for Yupin Thai, Ashfield NSW

This used to be the place to eat at Ashfield Mall when they had the previous thai business here. The food was really fresh and the prices were so, so cheap. $6.90 for a pad thai! Anyway, with Yupin thai the food is still really quite good. They cook it fresh and are fairly generous. The downside is that the prices continue to climb!

This review is for Sim's Kebabs, Ashfield NSW

I may be a little bias as this is my local kebab place which thankfully stays open until 3 or 4am on the party nights so I know I can get a midnight feed here after a long night out. The kebabs are very tasty and packed with ingredients, on Wednesday they make lamb kebabs which I haven't tried but I will one day. They sell pides, pizza, chips and an assortment of lebanese snacks like vine leaves and baklava. The prices are really good too and service is friendly.

This is conveniently located opposite Ashfield Station so I always grab a chicken and salad sandwich from here when I need something to eat but I'm on the go. It's pretty ordinary kind of diner but they also do some Malaysian and Singaporean dishes which I must try one time. The sandwiches are pretty run of the mill but the service is efficient.

I crave the ramen from here every once in awhile, it is so delicious! The meat is always tender and noodles cooked right and the broth is just so filling and yummy. Then there's little bits of crunchy corn for texture. It is the most awesome thing to eat especially for a winter feed. However, sometimes I get really thirsty for hours after eating ramen, not sure if the broth is just very salty or they use msg but it's still delicious so worth the hours of thirsty-ness after eating. The bowls are very generous especially for the price. I've never had a problem with the service, efficient but not personal/friendly though I don't mind because I'm really just there for the ramen!

I went here for a birthday party and it wasn't a terrible night. We sat upstairs in the cushion room and ordered a few dishes which were very tasty like the tabouli, dips with flat bread (even included some fried flat bread which was delicious), fried eggplant, rice with vermicelli and herb potato. All the dishes were very tasty but I would give the meat dishes a miss. The servings were on the medium size but not generous. The entertainment was ho-hum and the toilets could definitely be improved - a bit dingy. Service was slow-ish but the food makes up for it.

This review is for Asakusa Japanese Restaurant, Newtown NSW

verified email - 11 Aug 2009

I think this is a Korean-Japanese fusion restaurant and we tried sushi on this specific occasion so perhaps that's why it wasn't quite up to par. We had a few rolls of sushi, some edamame and they were kind of on the disappointing side. Sushi was ok - not very flavoursme and the edamame was so-so kind of still soggy and not fresh. However, this place does get busy so they must be doing something right. Decor is also lacking.

This review is for Astino's Cafe Restaurant, Newtown NSW

This is one of the better places to eat in Newtown but not the best. Very run of the mill options that aren't executed that well, I had a medium to well-done steak and it kind of tasted like charcoal. The servings are huge but the taste kind of bland. Service is good though.
