Went to this place for dessert after having dinner elsewhere and the options are plentiful. The cakes are delicious and fresh with options catering a true sweet tooth. There is also gelato and the lunch menu is all vegetarian/vegan food I think. The ambience of this place is really nice and cosy. Definitely one of the better cafes in Newtown where you really get what you pay for! :)

This eatery sells pizzas, pasta and serves tea and coffee. It is a bit hit and miss the oregano wraps are delicious but the pizza and pasta are definitely a miss, probably best to make it home because they aren't that flash at this eatery. They sit in the bain marie all day and they just heat it up to serve it to you. However, the service is quite personal and good.

This place has such a great ambience, very decadent and should be saved for special occasions as it is quite priccy! However, you really get what you pay for as the service is exceptional and the food is so cute and lovely. They have a great selection of teas but you only get about two tea cup worths out of one pot. Don't forget to book in advance!

This is my local beauty place and it's pretty no frills - you get what you pay for. The prices are very cheap so that is a plus but it is lacking in any personal service - you just go in and out almost like a factory - maybe that's why it's so cheap! However the lack of personal service can be a plus if you're in a rush and don't feel like chatting to the therapist. They are also very convenient because they are also willing to squeeze you in for an appointment at the last minute.

This is my local hairdresser and I would highly recommend her. The prices are very cheap, I get my hair washed and cut for $35 which is unheard of in Sydney. She takes the time to personally consult you about what you want done with your hair. There is also a great massage chair there for while you get your hair washed. Also as the business is small they can usually fit you in for an appointment so you don't have to worry about making appointments months in advance. Winner!

The great thing about this place is the long opening hours which means it's great for a midnight snack. I usually get the chicken kebab and it's tasty (a kebab is a kebab to me...you can have bad ones but good ones are pretty much on par). Anyway, the service here is efficient and they have a place to sit and rest your weary bones after a long night of dancing in your heels. It's a great late night haunt...but last time I was there two fights broke out though so be careful!

went here to grab a bite to eat before heading to the concert. The food was pretty nice for pub grub, I had a steak and it was tasty and my friend has a pot pie with the most awesome pastry which had bubbled up to about 3-4cm high! There was a function upstairs (wedding reception...weird) but the staff just gave us menus and even gave us free soft drinks (though I suspect the bar man was flirting with my friend). Clientele is questionable and decor is a bit on the tacky side - there is a huge crocodile encased in glass in the floor with light bulbs where it's eyes are suppose to be lol!

This review is for "Hippo Lounge" @ Madison Hotel, Surry Hills NSW

This is a quiet little place, upstairs is the cocktail lounge and the decor is a bit incongruous but I think they weren the middle of changing it. The ceiling has like an Africian, circle-of-life themed painting and some of the wall paper is Florence Broadhurst. Anyway, food was so-so but the cocktail lst was really varied and the Cocktail Bartender was really nice. it wasn't a busy on a Friday night so the service was very prompt. They also have an outside sitting room which has wall but no ceiling - if that makes sense, so it's ideal for smokers.

This place is very cute and cosy but what makes it great is that the food is really great. My friend's boyfriend laments paying for "cafe food" when you can make it at home but the food here is actually really nice and worth what you pay for. The prices are great especially when you consider the location. I had the risotto and it was creamy and delicious - it wasn't gluggy and didn't have that "cloying" taste that bad risotto has. The gnomes stool are also very kitsch, if only they opened for dinner!!!

Food here is pretty authentic (well, from what I know of middle eastern cuisine). We usually get the banquets which used to be about $20-$25 for about 5 or 6 dishes...and boy you get full from all the food! Try the rice with the vermicelli...it us delicious, we were so disappointed when we went back last time and they had run out! Service is pretty friendly and prompt too!
