I'm fairly new to Melbourne so had been casting around for a hairdresser in my suburb. I've always been a "hair is just hair" kind of girl so had no problem booking in with somewhere that had a special offer for a cut and colour that I found on the internet. Big mistake. I was in pain after the colour, something which I have never experienced before. I didn't complain, which I probably should have done but after coming to Caesar's Hands I realise they burnt my scalp! And ruined my hair in the process (thankfully it was highlights so not all of it). Then in summer I was so sick of my thick and heavy hair I just wanted it gone so tried to book an appointment at Caesar's only to find it would take two months (!) to get one. I couldn't wait that long so I went to a place around the corner from home and came out with a haircut that looked ok while blowdried to an inch of its life but after washing - just awful. Ok ok this isn't a review of all the terrible haircuts I've had, but I'm using it as a way to describe the difference I experienced at Caeser's Hands. First of all, you are the only one in the salon, which I thought might feel a bit weird and intimate but quite the opposite. It does feel intimate, but in a way that allows you to talk about what might concern you without feeling as though half the world listening in. Secondly, I never really know what I want - a bob, lob, Rachel cut, whatever - I just want one that looks good and suits me. So it was a big difference to have a hairdresser really look at me, my face shape and features to see what needed to be played up and played down. I didn't have to make any suggestions - maybe this will suit you maybe it won't - but for me it was great to just relax and not be hounded with questions about what I want when in all honesty I really want a professional to tell me what would work and what wouldn't.

The cut I came out with was not that far from what I came in with (not much was taken off, it was more like fixing the hack job from before), just a lot better looking and with no need to use a hairdryer or straightener every day - exactly what I was looking for. It just sat right, looked as good as when it was first done after I washed it the first time, and whatever potions are used seemed to make my hair glow. Success.

I will be going back in a few weeks time (I left it a while to leave this review) to get another cut and a colour to try and fix up the mess that is still remaining from before. Other reviews here say the colour process is really good so I am looking forward to it. Overall, I'd like to keep this place secret but also want others to know that there is a little salon in the heart of the city that is worth every cent spent.
