A lovely Japanese restaurant, with fantastic atmosphere and decor. The service and food were also agreeable :) I have had better Japanese, but Otsumami is the most pleasing to the eye and soul :-) a memorable dining experience!

This review is for Camy Shanghai Dumpling & Noodle Restaurant, Melbourne VIC

Worth a visit for the experience, it really is a Melbourne icon :) the host of the restaurant has to be seen to be believed, I had read many reviews of Camy and heard many stories but nothing substituted for the actual experience. The food was good, I have had better but it was still nice. Perhaps a touch of MSG? Or at least something which upset my stomach, though my stomach is very sensitive so others may be fine!

On a recent trip to Daylesford my partner and I happened to pop in to the local Cellarbrations bottle shop and were so pleasantly surprised with their outstanding service! The sales assistant who helped us was so clearly happy to chat and share his knowledge of porter style beers. The range was fantastic and prices were very good as well :) quite a different experience from the Liquorland bottle shop we had popped in to prior to going to Foxxy's. There the sales assistant looked bored, disinterested with us as customers and the range of beers was considerably lacking.

I recently purchased a new bed & mattress from Northland Bedshed and must say the experience was extremely good, and a far cry above the other numerous bedding stores found in the Northland Homemaker Centre. I visited all the bedding stores there, except for Beds for Backs so I cannot comment on their service! Most of the other stores we were lucky to even get a glance or a hello from, let alone the absolute wealth of product knowledge our sales assistant, Marilyn, provided us with. I highly recommend shopping at this store to anyone, I am very satisfied with my experience there and very happy with my new bed and mattress!

This review is for Specsavers, Preston VIC

I have been a customer of Preston Specsavers since they opened several years ago, and my experiences have generally been very good. Some of the sales assistants have been exceptional, unfortunately i have met with one dreadful case of after service care and one case of 'ignoring the customer who is clearly looking at purchasing new frames'. If it wasn't for these two incidents I would give the store 5 stars for service & quality, sorry guys but some of your team have let you down!
The after sales incident was due to poor training in my opinion. Anyone who had been trained correctly in altering glasses frames to fit a customers face would not have attempted what this sale assistant did to my specs! I did let the store know later down the track, but this particular sales assistant still works there, 3 years later, and I am super wary to not engage her in anything! No advice, no nothing! Argh!
Otherwise, specsavers Preston are a fantastic optometry with great optometrists and some super helpful and competent staff. Oh and so affordable!

This review is for Pizzeria Amici, Heidelberg VIC

I went to Amici recently to discover...my absolute favourite pizza restaurant of all time has changed hands!!! It is still a lovely place, with friendly service and good food, however, the sheer magic of Michele and Elena Macri is sadly gone. I would love to know if they opened another restaurant, I would travel for them! ahhhhh....:-)
Back to the new Amici, if it had been my first time there I would have felt differently, but it was just..strange. It was as if i had popped in to see old friends to discover they had moved with no forwarding address and ate similar pizza and drank similar Italian beers, but...it's just not the same. So much of a dining experience for me is the atmosphere, and Elena simply has a magic that cannot be bottled, sold or copied.
Please try Amici, if you haven't been there before you shall enjoy the pizza and service. If you have, take note the owners have changed but it is still a pleasant experience, just starling to those like me who did not know of this fact until inside and seated!
One thing that the new people have improved on is the decor, I love the new interior design! On a negative note, the menu is way too large, it really needs cutting down, particularly some of what I suspect is frozen or prepared food - there did not seem to be anyone manning the kitchen. Oh and a green salad for $11, really? My advise to the owners, if you are reading this, is to stick to pizza. Simple is often better :)

This review is for Palace Westgarth Cinemas, Northcote VIC

A cute little cinema, it's nice to get away from the big multiplexes and feel like a human being again :-) seeing a movie here is more of a 'cinema experience' rather than a 'movie experience' due to the old world charm of the place.
I concur with another reviewer who remarked on the parking issues in Westgarth, beware! Parking officers are definitely afoot in this neck of the woods, if you are able catch PT instead, much less of a headache :-)

This review is for Himalaya Bakery And Cafe, Daylesford VIC

We purchased bread from this great little bakery. A lovely spelt, rye and sunflower loaf - cost $7.50. They had samples of their bread to try which is a fantastic idea, loved it!
The bread was very good, however the atmosphere of the cafe/bakery was what stopped us from returning for breakfast the next day. It was much less cosy than some of the other cafes in the area, which was partly due to the indifferent approach of the lady who served us. A little warmth goes a long way!

A truly wonderful dining experience and such a delight for a vegetarian to dine out and be able to choose ANYTHING from the menu!!! The food is also interesting, I wouldn't go so far as to say innovative but definitely interesting, which is another huge plus for a vegie ;-) My tip is to share a few of the starters, they were by far the stand out dishes of our night!

This review is for Koukla, Daylesford VIC

verified email - 24 Aug 2012

Koukla is a funky cafe/restaurant which is definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is lovely, rustic wooden tables & an eclectic collection of chairs make Koukla very inviting. It was especially nice with the open fire roaring away!
The staff were nice, some seemed a lttle disinterested but competent nonetheless. That being said, the waitress who took our bill and saw us out was just lovely, if only all cafe staff everywhere could be more like her!
I had the omelette - potato, feta, tomato, it was simply lovely. So fluffy and light and was served in a small cast iron pan, which kept it nice and warm. Given that it took me awhile to get through it this was a plus! The sourdough toast served with the omelette was thick and crunchy.
On the not so great side - If you are after a herbal tea, try somewhere else :/ the selection was pretty poor (which sadly seems to be often the case these days) - camomile, peppermint, lemongrass & ginger. I had the L & G which was T2, a nice tea, although somewhat on the stale side, not a whole lot of flavour in that pot! Also, on the vegie food side although my brekkie was divine if you are after choice....you won't find it here, although sadly that seems to be more of a trend these days.
I will definitely go back to Koukla next time I'm in Daylesford :) and cross my fingers they have replenished & revitalised their herbal teas!
