Dartnell's are unique in that the proprietor is also an Ayurvedic practitioner who will give over the counter advice. They stock a large range of products at high prices. Service can be slow and intimidating, not overly friendly. Advice can be good and they will ring around to confirm information if necessary. I found that their fertility specialist was unable to help me, but wouldn't say so to my face. If you go, make sure you allow time for the slow service.
Macro is a chain of organic supermarkets. A one stop shop for all of your organic and health needs. They sell some items in bulk, they identify whether items are organic, biodynamic or conventional. They have a dispensary so you can see a naturopath or homeopath for advice. The prices are high, but then that's organics for you. The service is friendly and helpful.
Overdue update:
Macro sold out to Woolies. Very sad. It took a number of years for Woolies to take on the Macro brand, which they now have, but it's not the same.
We bought all of our bathroom and laundry things here. We looked around for months, this store had the best range and boast that all is quality. They did a package deal for us. We dealt with the manager, Andrew Blake and he gave us logical, practical advice which made things much easier.
Approximate cost: $7000.00
Zart supplies art, craft and stationery to schools, but also deal with the public. They are very friendly and always happy to drop what they're doing to help you. They have a great range including their own line of amazing products. The Zart Magiclay is very popular amongst students and adults alike! Prices are competitive.
When I was looking for my glass cutting saw, I researched extensively and no one in VIC at the time could help me. The guys at Boyce Western were great. They provided all the information I needed and back up service when it's required. They are friendly, helpful and always do the best they can for you.
These ladies are model examples of great business! I cannot find flaw with their service. Regardless of the hour, Yvonne will email you promptly in response to questions and if there's a problem with your order you can get a phone call within 10min of submitting it! I have found them very accomodating and helpful. You don't have to be a registered business to receive wholesale prices and there's no minimum order. Stock items are all quality.
This is a big store dedicated to all types of beads, crystals and supplies and new stock is being added all the time. The service is great, friendly, helpful. Don't buy cheap tools, they don't work. The website is still being updated, so it's worth a visit to the shop. Keep a close eye on your invoice if buying wholesale, I've noticed a few errors.
Glass Craft is THE place to go for all of your glass needs/supplies - a one stop shop! Friendly service, good advice. They are often busy and it's usually these times that there's only one person behind the counter. They used to be in Box Hill, I find Thomastown a bit too far away. They will post orders out, but you need to be clear about what you want.
I've been buying precious metals for over 10yrs and the people can be a little intimidating. Not John, he's very approachable and helpful. He's happy to take orders in person, by phone, fax or email. Just take care though, he's so friendly and easy to talk to I ended up spending more than I intended!
I've had so many bad experiences with hairdressers I went for 3yrs without getting my hair cut. My hair has long been in poor condition and I am amazed at how healthy it's becomming since going to Harrison's. The place is always buzzing with activity, the girls are all friendly and Rick's a charmer, as well as a great hairdresser ;)
3 1/2 yrs later, I'm still seeing Rick to trim my hair. I'm not interested in colouring or fashion trends, just a trim to keep my long locks in good condition. So, whatever your needs, Harrison Hairdressing will listen to you. I take my own shampoo and conditioner and that's not a problem either.
