so my first experience with tiger air was a 3 hour delay on my flight to melbourne. Then on the return flight, i was 550grams over weight and they wanted to charge me $28 for excess baggage. Needless to say i got rid of 550 grams. Their staff are ok but quite abrupt. The plane has more of a cattle truck feel to it than a plane. All this said, you get what you pay for and for the amount you pay - you shouldn't expect much. Their prices are unbeatable and a few inconveniences should be expected.

Flew from darwin to singapore with two very young children. checkin lady said we had to pay excess luggage for the baby's stroller (of $25). she weighed it and then declared it to be odd-shaped luggage which costs more, apparently. never heard of that before. Complained about it in Singapore. at first, no one would talk to us at the tiger airways office. we kicked up a fuss, then the CEO, a very rude and arrogant pom named Tony Davis came out and said that it was not their problem. We asked about their stroller policy and was told that they were not supposed to charge for it but that we had to file for reimbursement back in Australia. In the end, we couldn't be bothered. there was so much paperwork just to get that amount back.

on other issues, the flight itself was ok. but due to such an evasive customer service policy, we will never use this airline again, no matter how cheap it is.

Approximate cost: $1000

Cheapest flights available. Fleet of planes as new as any other cheaper airline, and comfortable enough. Service lacks a little, but you pay for what you get in this world and if you cannot abide by the terms and conditions, don't buy these fares. I have missed a flight, and it was my own fault. This airline is very small and relies on a very SMALL amount of staff to run it - so I find it fair they have no flexibility.

Approximate cost: $72.95

Some of these comments are defamatory!
Do not winge if you turned up late for the flight, it closes 45 mins prior to departure which you are informed about at time of booking.
This is complete paper work such as load and balance
(by hand) ground services are contracted to the keep costs down.
The contract company supplies limited staff which multi task.
Tiger is offering the best fares in Australia, running a very lean operation to allow these prices and if you want pillows, blankets, free water and more luggage allowance you are flying with the wrong airline.
Pay way more and you will get it at Qantas or Virgin not problem.
Tiger wont suit everyone however, there are many who love the fares and the idea of paying for only what you need/use.
And if you think the other airlines don't have the same canceled and delayed flights... THINK AGAIN.

Approximate cost: $59

Markie: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. That is what makes WOMOW so wonderful: The ability to give honest reviews of one's personal experience with a company. My experience happened to be negative, and it my right to state such. I assure you that I am quite accustomed to flying budget airlines. I do it quite often, actually. I just happened to have a very bad experience with Tiger Airways, and I have no problem with sharing this. I don't think asking for a little bit of water when you're having a coughing fit is unreasonable. (At least I made an effort to ensure that those around me were comfortable by actually trying to solve the problem.) While I respect that you might have had a good experience with Tiger Airways, I think you should extend the same courtesy to those of us that didn't.

Dev,
Just politely stating I feel your rating was harsh.
The airline does not supply free water unless a cabin crew member wants to give you some of their own water.
Its the low cost model and its working for them.
Many here in AU are not used to this type of service.

Flew Tiger Airways from Perth to Mebourne, Melbourne to Gold Coast and back again. Quite a enjoyable flight, flight attendants were well mannered and extremely polite. alot cheaper than the other major Airlines.

I booked my first flight on Tiger and was unsure of what to expect. I was impressed by the price, however there was only one flight choice per day Melb - Canberra.
My flight was two hours delayed on the way there and on the way back I experience the same thing. They did not delay the flight until the last minute both times. I was unimpressed.

Approximate cost: $60

At these prices, I don't expect much, so was pleasantly surprised! Lovely new planes, friendly staff and no complaints.
You have to be there 2 hours before departure, which is a bit of a pain. The luggage allowance is low, and you get no allowance for infants at all. But the airline is upfront about these things, and it helps to keep the fares low.

I booked a flight at very late notice and got a deal that was more than half the price offered by Virgin or Qantas for the same route, day & time - So value was exceptional, especially at late notice. Checkin was ok - no hassles - being 45mins before takeoff rather than 30 is a small price to pay. Flight was perfect - no bells and whistles - but definitely on time. My experience was definitely a positive one.

Approximate cost: $60

My friend and I had booked a trip to melbourne 3 months ago on tiger. We arrived at the airport 2 hours before the flight was due to even be open for checkin (as they advised on the itinerary) and the flight had been changed to 2.5 hours earlier!

There was no-one on the checkin desk or anywhere in the entire airport that we could speak to so we ran to the boarding gate to see if we could still get on as it was still finalising boarding and we were told no sorry, the paper work has been done. There is nothing that we can do for you.

We were told by several members of staff that every other day they get very angry customers in the same boat. We were forced to purchase tickets on virgin and thankfully they still had cheaper seats left. One customer was forced to spend an additional $700 on their flights.

Tiger claims to send out 3 separate emails detailing changes to the itinerary but we received email updates. This again is not unusual as it turns out.

When something seems too good to be true it usually is. I would not recommend flying tiger to anyone for any reason.
