We purchased Home and contents insurance through Westpac. It appears to be underwritten by Allianz. We purchased the top cover Westpac Premier Care policy but when it came time to claim, we found that the policy was not worth anything. We claimed for pump motor burn out and the claim was turned down because a blocked pipe caused the burn out. In other words they will only pay the claim if the motor burns out without a cause. They are happy to take the money for the cover only to tell you when you claim that you aren't covered.

I went into this branch for help with what I thought was a complex problem and the staff were so helpful. Fixed it on the spot in 5 mins and gave me a card to call them in the branch if I had any further issues.

great customer service,it feels like they really value their customers. we opened up an account with westpac for the first time and the woman was wonderful- she sat with us for 2 hours, explaining everything and answering every question we had. Exceptional service, makes me want to keep going back!

Great review... It's good to know you still get this service from a bank.

Very disappointing. My account was blocked and I was still get charged by the $5 bank fees. I can't withdraw any money but they are still happy to take $5 bank fees. Stuffed up all my direct debit. When I called the wales corner branch, this person who is the customer relationship officer said "we have terms and condition and the bank fees still apply regardless your account is blocked or not" and he told me he needs to talk to his manager about this.

My eft pos machine is not working. I called at 11:30 am and left a message. He got back to me at 4:30 pm and gave me the phone number for the people who handle the case and told me that he is not feeling well and so he can't do it on the day because he wants to go home early.

months before that, i went there to deposit some cash. Approx 5,000, all $50s bills. i was wearing something casual and the teller asked me what do i do for a living. but the way she asked was like interogating me that i am doing some kind of dodgy business. i refused to tell her then she said to me that there is only $4,950. I argued and told her to count the money again. She refused. The security guard came. I was so angry and I told her manager that there is $5,000 there and not $4,950. They counted it again and I was right that there was $5,000.

It was horrible.

I emptied all my cash soon after. and moved it to other bank

What a pity you had a bad experience there. My experience is the complete opposite, the staff were friendly and helpful.

You should probably write your review about your personal experience so that people can benefit from it. I am sure some had great experience whilst other were left disappointed. Unfortunately my experience has not been a pleasant one. Same thing happened in the Highpoint branch (actually it was worse) where I could not understand what the staff was saying and vice versa. It was in a relation to damaged bank notes. Another time was on the phone, about credit card closure letter where the rep was providing inaccurate info. I had to go to the Airport West branch. At the branch, one staff was very annoyed to provide an assistance but there was another staff who took on the responsibility and gave 5 stars customer service. My conclusion is that, when dealing with daily tasks which are performed as a routine, you tend to get good service due to staff being familiar and have the experience to perform the task. But when you have a unique situation, it is a bit unpredictable.

Another incident happened back in year 2012, I was enquiring about income protection and life insurance. Was asked to come to the appointment. At the appointment, the staff was very arrogant, did not give any written information, just some scribble on a piece of blank paper and quickly go through some info on the screen. End up not buying the insurance due to not feeling confident about the product.

This is by far the WORST bank i have ever had to deal with. I was with them for 3 years, had 2 mortgages, a credit card, savings account and everyday living account with them. Lack of product knowledge, rude tellers, huge fees, harrassing phone calls, statement errors almost every month, the list goes on and on

I have been with Westpac for a year or so now. Their customer service was quite good, both in-branch and call centre. Their fees are quite reasonable, better than ANZ ! The upgraded website was the best improvement. However I am switching to NAB next year. Simply because they have no monthly account fee and they have have sms banking.

If Westpac can match that, I would stay with them with no question. I will still keep the Westpac account, in case NAB doesn't keep their promise. Overall Westpac is a good bank to bank with

Approximate cost: $0

I'm still with Westpac but I'm thinking of changing in the near future. I use Collin st for any teller banking I do and they are always very friendly and efficient.
They do however charge exorbitant fees especially on their credit cards, they put a block on my card when I was overseas without letting me know because I had transacted a large amount (when I told them I was going overseas before I left, the teller just shrugged and did nothing). I had to ring them which cost me a fortune just to get my card re-activated which was annoying.

Westpac understand the life of a student, especially one that has gone back to study from full time work and can no longer afford her credit cards! They reduced the interest on my cards and reduced the minimum monthly payments just to help me out. AMAZING!

I have now just moved to do internet banking with ING as Westpac was charging me for having the previlidge of them having my money. What happened to the good old days where you use to get interest for putting money in the bank. The renovations in the office in Swanston street took too long and were very poorly organised. LOST ME WESTPAC.

I am an ex-Westpac customer. I was very disappointed when they took over the Bank of Melbourne as the BOM had fantastic customer service, low fees and friendly staff. Within a year Westpac had stuffed that up - not just the fees but the absolutely awful, unhappy staff at this branch in Collins street was the worst. When I took my mortgage away from them after saying I would I got a very determined phone call from a manager trying to find out where our relationship went wrong. It did not help that when I closed my savings account they charged me more than $10 for a bank cheque in order to remove my own money from their bank.

Unfortunately it looks like St George is going to fall victim to them next. Here we go again :(
