My husband picked this place for us to have a nice dinner out. I'd seen a photo of the inside from a review and I was worried that the place was a bit too crowded and "trendy" for my liking, but we'd seen someone mention that there was an upstairs that had a completely different look/feel, so we asked to be seated there.

As we arrived, the door was opened for us, and we were asked for our booking and lead upstairs to be seated. As we walked through it confirmed what I'd thought, that the downstairs wasn't the atmosphere we would like, but upstairs definitely was. There seemed to be more space between tables, it was quieter and much more romantic feel.

Looking at the menu, I didn't find anything that took my fancy at first, they had a lot of dishes I wouldn't normally eat (duck, seafood), and not a lot of dishes on offer. They don't have a separate entree menu, and just served the cheaper meals as entrees. We didn't have an entree, and I settled on a lamb dish with purple potatoes and cabbage... We didn't have to wait very long for our meal, and while it seemed small for the price (especially on the large plates), the taste was divine! I admit, I don't dine out a lot, so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but I was very impressed with my meal, the flavours were lovely and everything was perfectly cooked. While I don't like duck (more in the idea of it, than actual taste), I did sample some of hubby's dish, and it was similarly well flavoured and soft, well cooked meat. Our desserts were chocolate mousse (called "pave" I think) with cinnamon icecream. We found the the cinnamon was a refreshing break from the richness of the mousse, but without being too much of a contrast.

The waiters all seemed friendly and efficient. I noticed as other diners left the table, the waiters would come and refold their napkins. When people's glasses were empty, they ducked in to refill them, plates cleared away as soon as both diners had finished. All with an unobtrusive and well looked after feel. Despite this more formal type of atmosphere, it was still comfortably casual enough that I didn't feel out of place and everyone seemed to be comfortably enjoying themselves.

Overall I was very impressed with this place. The food was delicious and even with my limited knowledge of cuisine, I could tell it was created with care and attention to detail. While I do consider the prices to be expensive, I do think that with the great service and excellent dishes, it was worth treating ourselves. We will definitely be dining here again.

Approximate cost: $35

I wanted to have YumCha for my birthday dinner, and we called up a few places to see if anyone offered it for dinner (as most don't). This place said they did do it for dinner, and we asked again to be sure, so twice they said they did. We make a booking and went there (a reasonable drive away)

They seated us next to the walkway, which I wasn't happy about (I don't know if they were otherwise fully booked, but there was only only other table occupied that I could see)... and it appeared that they were cleaning something off the table as they were seating us (they moved some things around, and I wasn't paying much attention, so I'm not quite sure)... As they moved the soy sauce bottle, I noticed soy sauce had been sloshed into the little bowl part, and down the front (not by them moving it - it was dried, so it was there from previous customers) My napkin had dirty marks on it. We picked up the menu and looked through - no mention of YumCha, so we asked the waitress, who said no they don't do it for dinner - but pointed out they did have dim sims and spring rolls... So we'd driven all that way because they had told us they did dinner yumcha, and they didn't - the table was dirty... and I didn't find their food prices to be that good value, given the lack of cleanliness and ambiance of the place.

So we left, and I won't be going back there again.

I have been to this play centre a few times, and normally I've been pleased. However I have had ongoing problems getting sour cream with the wedges. It sounds like a silly thing to comment on, but they have consistently "run out" of sour cream every time I have gone, even on days that have not been busy... so much so that I've decided that I have to bring my own.

Today however was an experience that makes me hesitant to go there again. It's school holidays, so busier than normal, but it wasn't as full as I've seen other play centres... When I arrived I had to stand and wait for probably about 2 minutes for someone to come and let me pay for entry - there was nobody behind the counter. Finally someone appeared, I paid and we went in. I was meeting up with 2 friends and their kids, so after a little while we ordered lunch...

The 3 of us were standing in line to order. I was last in line and there was nobody behind me. My friends placed their orders, and when I stepped up the woman behind the counter said she'd be with me in a few minutes and walked off. Now I find that extremely rude. My friend called out to her that I was on the same table and just wanted to quickly place my order, but the woman said she had orders to do, and walked off again. The woman who was at the entry had spent the entire time sitting at the desk infront of a laptop, despite the fact that the woman taking food orders was obviously run off her feet. I did not see her help out at all - so they only had one active member of staff. I ended up sitting back down and waiting for about 5 minutes before the woman was able to take my order (which took less than a minute to do).

Half an hour later, one of my friends received half of their order.....so half of our group of kids sat there eating while the other half had to wait, and the kids that did get food only got a portion of what they should have. Eventually it took so long we sent the other kids to go off and play again and we'd call them back when their food arrived. Nearly half an hour after that, our food finally arrived (and not long after that, the remaining part of my friend's order arrived). 2 other tables had ordered after us, and got their food before ours. We were only ordering nuggets and chips and wedges - nothing too time consuming. Having half a group of kids have to wait half an hour longer for their lunch - that's just not right! Especially since we had ordered the same thing at the same time!!!!!

Not only was the food very late, it was delivered to the table and almost thrown at us..... when we asked about the delay we got a snappy "well I'm very busy" (then they should have hired more staff - it's not our fault people wanted to order lunch at lunchtime!) Though they did at least have sour cream :) As if all that was not bad enough, the quality of the food was horrendous. I have never seen chicken nuggets that looked like that. They were so overcooked that they were dark brown and had holes in the crumbing - presumably where the chicken inside had dried up and shrunk, and the coating had fallen off in places. They were so bad that half the kids refused to even eat them! When the other half of my friend's order finally came, those nuggets were fine - not overcooked. The overcooked ones should not have been served, they were obviously appalling.

As well as the lunch debarcle, the carpet floor was revolting and sticky. You could feel your shoes sticking to it, and I've had to wash the soles of my shoes because whatever sticky thing was on it has stayed on the shoes and was making sticky sounds on my wooden floor at home. My friend's thong actually came off because it had stuck to the carpet!

and finally.... walking back to the car, there was water trickling across the carpark, and as I got closer I realised it was a broken sewer pipe, as you could see toilet paper coming out of it and the smell was obvious. So we had to jump over that to get back to the car. Now that may have happened while we were in the centre (I didn't notice it going in, but there were cars parked over it when we went in), but there were no pieces of broken pipe around.

All in all, not the most enjoyable play centre trip I've ever had.

We have been here twice now, and both times we have been very impressed. Definitely a 5 out of 5 score from me. I'm normally somewhat stingy, but I really feel the quality of the food justifies the price. Though I have only had the yumcha, so I don't know what their other dishes are like.

The first time we had the unlimited yumcha at $39.50 each. We found the food and value to be excellent. After the soup, we had a plate of fried items, and one of them was tofu. I'm not a tofu person, but we'd made a promise to try everything, so I did, and it was DELICIOUS! The calamari was perfectly cooked, and almost melt in your mouth. We liked some of the dumplings and wontons more than others, but the fried rice was delicious, and we certainly enjoyed the food. If anything, the next wave of dishes arrived too quickly, because often we hadn't finished what we had before the next lot were brought out. After we'd had more than our fill, we were pondering ending with a dessert, and were recommended the mango pudding (mousse) and coconut cake (jelly), which we shared between the 3 of us. DIVINE!

We had an embarrassing moment I'll share, where a "dumpling of doom" had slipped out of the grasp of the chopsticks while being carried to a plate, and dropped onto the tablecloth, where the sticky outer stuck to the table cloth and would not easily be removed. So after picking off what we could, of course we decided to hide the remains under the saucer for the soy sauce bottle, as you do :). but having just placed the bottle ontop, one of our party reached across the table saying "no, you'll make it worse", and then made it MUCH worse by accidentally knocking the bottle over, spilling almost the entire contents of soy onto the (white) tablecloth! Then trying to mop it up, we succeeded only in making a napkin covered in soy too. The staff didn't even look angry, so that was nice! So it was all started by the "dumpling of doom"

So then for my birthday I wanted to do yumcha, and even though it was quite a drive (an hour and a half), we wanted to go to this place again because we had enjoyed it so much the time before (we still laugh over the soy incident) We also remembered they had a booth/room at the back and booked that as we were this time taking an infant and we wanted the extra privacy/sound barrier :) There was a little hiccup with the booking, we had been told that they would hold the table for only 15 mins if we were late, and we ended up (because of traffic) being 10 mins late. They had seated someone in our spot! We were offered a table elsewhere, or to wait for about 15 mins until the other booth was cleared. Unfortunately we had picked a very busy night, as the Cirque du Soleil was performing right around the corner and people were coming in for dinner between shows. But after we explained that we had booked the booth because of the infant and it being my birthday, and that while we were 10 mins late, we were told they would hold it for 15 mins, and that with the infant and it raining outside, we couldn't stand around waiting for the other booth to be ready.... within only about a minute, they had moved the person who had been seated at our table, and we got our table. They were very good about this, while we felt bad forcing someone out of their seat and making a fuss, the booth was one reason we liked this place and we'd called earlier to make sure our booking was still for that booth. We found the service to be excellent all through the evening, we had staff coming in to check we were ok and if we wanted anything more. Though sometimes it is a little difficult to get the attention of a waiter when you are in those booth/rooms, but that is the price you pay for the advantages of being tucked away in a more private area.

This time we decided that we would try just ordering the yumcha items we wanted and not do the unlimited. We ended up spending $50 each, including drinks (there were 4 of us), which ended up being a bit more than the unlimited deal, but we feel we got better value doing it this way because we got to eat only the things we want, and dishes that we didn't have in the unlimited yumcha. Admittedly I think we could have done without the last round of dishes, which would have then made it about the same price as the unlimited deal, but we enjoyed this meal better - because we could pick what we liked. We also got to pace ourselves, ordering in waves so that we had a chance to enjoy the food and let it settle before the next round came. Again the soup was superb, the the tofu and calamari melted in your mouth, the fried rice was beautiful and we had some other amazing dishes that we'd decided to try and were impressed by.

My favourites were the Salt and pepper Calamari and Tofu (I still can't believe I ate tofu by choice!!), the Chicken & sweetcorn soup, Fried rice, Chicken bun (which we tried out of interest and were pleased we did), Little dragon chicken dumpling (which were simple but delicious).. the Cantonese 5 spice beef (which was so delicious we had to order more!)... the mango pudding/mousse and the custard egg buns (*drool*)

We had also had (which were very yummy indeed), the Pork & vegetable spring roll, Crabmeat & prawn dumpling, Chicken san choy bow, Deep fried sesame prawn toast, Mixed Asian vegetables (which aren't really my thing) and Honey glazed chicken drumettes (which I actually didn't try)

The only dish we didn't like was the BBQ pork ribs... we found it a bit oily (the taste was nice though), and my piece had quite a few bone fragments in it (though none of the other pieces seemed to).

Our second order of the 5 spiced beef came to the table somewhat lacking. There was about a tablespoon worth of the beef, with the sauce and 2 large seed pods. So we commented on this to a waitress and they replaced the dish. Not sure what happened there, but the fact they replaced it with a proper serve made us happy (It really is DELICIOUS!) The only other complaint was that our second lot of calamari & tofu was a little oily (still melt in the mouth delicious though), So we made a decision that since the second lot of the 4 spice beef, tofu and calamari weren't as good as the first lots (although the replaced 4 spice beef was), that it was the universe's way of telling us not to be pigs :) and to be happy with the one serve of things. We were tempted to break our new rule when the egg custard buns were so delicious that we contemplated another :) but we thought we'd be good and finish there. And the portion size of the mango pudding had diminished - a lot. The first time we had shared one bowl between the 3 of us, and there was enough to be satisfied. This time they arrived in small bowls, and we had originally planned to share 1 bowl between 2 people, remembering that the other time the bowls were a good size and that we didn't think we could each eat a whole one. These bowls though were only enough for 1 serve. However the waitress sneaked us an additional 2 bowls, so we each got to have a reasonable amount...

So we were very pleased with the meal, the restaurant is decorated nicely and comfortable. Staff are friendly and for the most part very efficient (we had a little trouble with one waitress whose English wasn't as good as the rest) A little overcrowded on this visit, which I assume was because of the Cirque du Soleil, but that didn't affect us as we were in the booth. The first time we went was on a Thursday night, so it might always be that busy on a Sat night, I don't know.

We will definitely be going back!

This particular store always leaves us disappointed. The dining area is often dirty - you can come in early in the morning and find old dried up icecream smeared on the walls from who knows when.... There are often dead flies on the windowsills, crumbs and food between the seats.

One morning we went there for our brekky treat instead of maccas like we normally do...... NEVER AGAIN!

Found the drinks machine was dispensing slightly coloured carbonated water, instead of coke...(syrup had run out) so we made a complaint, and they still hadn't fixed it by the time we left (and we were there a reasonable time). The bacon & egg burgers were cold, and one of them was dripping with fat (seriously oozing the stuff). The hash browns were swimming in grease! Now yes, they are deep fried, but these were exceptionally greasy. I normally press them between a serviette to help get some of the oil out.... these were so greasy that they soaked through several serviettes. Infact it took about 20 of them to soak up enough grease from 2 hash browns to make them to your usual level of fries/hashbrown grease. I ended up posting the serviettes to head office to show them :)

We use these guys a lot, because we prefer their pizzas over the local Pizza hut, Dominos or other places (we find Johhny Boys to be less oily, and like the more traditional type of pizza).

I will say though that the quality isn't consistent. We get the same pizza every time, and it's usually looking and tasting a little different each time. Some times there will be pockets of garlic and herbs (yum), other times there won't be. Still, each pizza we've had has been very tasty, and that's why we keep going back.

We also find there to be very little cheese on the pizza. We normally order it with extra cheese, but we still don't find them cheesy enough. Infact we've ordered one with extra cheese and one without - just to compare, and both looked exactly the same. Its become a bit of a running joke in the family :)

Still, overall we do really like these pizzas.

We went there with a group of friends, and I think we all enjoyed it. The kids (and I) loved the enclosure where you could pick up the guineapigs and rabbits, and feeding the animals outside. We were given loaves of bread (free) when we arrived, so there was plenty of food to feed the animals.

There is an undercover area for you to eat your lunch, and a minimal amount of food you can buy there (I got a hotdog and it was cold, so it's not the best for food, but you can bring your lunch and have a picnic so that's good.)

They have pony and train rides you can pay extra for, I didn't go on the train ride, but my daughter did and it seemed to be a nice long ride, the pony rides were a bit short (we got a double turn since nobody was waiting), but the kids are generally happy no matter the length.

They were building a playground there when we went, which should be open now, adding to the things to do. Everything seemed nice and clean and there was plenty of parking. So overall it was a nice family day out.

We recently went to this centre, and I was quite impressed. At first it seems to be quite empty, but there is actually a lot for the kids to do, more than other centres I've been to. They also have a loyalty card. You need to take the kids shoes off and leave them at the front counter which is a little weird at first, but it saves you having to hunt from them when its time to go!

They are an indoor sports centre, and during the day they bring out toys and things onto one of the courts, then pack it up at night for the sports. So there is a large area for running around and riding on the bikes. Plenty of room! The fact it's such a large space is what makes it look a bit empty at first, but it means its not crowded like smaller centres.

To the side they have the standard (permanent) multi-level climbing equipment/slides that you find in most other play centres, and this one has a trampoline instead of a ball pit. Also a small soft baby area with some different activities.

Then there is the court area, which has a giant inflatable slide, various padded mats and padded tunnels and things, some older kid trikes and scooters as well as the younger kids cars, a cubby house... and even a flying fox with tumble mats under it and a small (portable) ball pit at the end. At the far end there are 3 of the toddler "rollercoaster" ride things (sit on a car on a bumpy track).

For the parents there are large tables with full view of everything. So it's especially good for larger groups of people.

When we were there they had run out of chips, so we ordered wedges, and they had run out of sour cream, so we were not impressed with that, but other than that, we had a great time. Everything seemed clean and the service wasn't too slow.

There is a special toilet room for the little kids, with small toilets (no doors on the stalls) and a low trough sink, so most over 4 year olds will be able to take themselves off to the toilet without help.

We had a get together with several kids, ranging from around 12 months to around 9 years old (covering most ages inbetween), and all appeared to have a blast!

I don't shop here often because its a bit out of the way for me, but when I do, I'm always pleased. They have a large selection of fruit & veg at good prices, several checkouts so I've never had to wait long (I don't shop on weekends though).

The stores look fantastic, and they usually have sample teas you can try. I find them to be quite expensive, but they are selling more boutique teas. They are certainly delicious! and you get blends you just can't find anywhere else.
