The bread & pies over the years have always been excellent. Some staff are not that friendly, don't smile, but given the hours they probably woke up, they are entitled to be grumpy.
However, they seem to smile & talk to other customers???
As I work next to a baker, I receive a great deal of bread for free, & I don't really go there as often.
Today I went there & was charged $6.80 for 1 loaf of day old bread, and 1 litre of Dairy Farmers Milk for $6.80. I should have waited 14 minutes for IGA to open, and had a similar product for a lot less, and IGA is not cheap.
Approximate cost: $6.80
I used to use flybys constantly.
However, not many shell service stations at the time were in the Newcastle area would support this.
When Aldi at Wallsend opened, it was worth the LONG drive to save money on groceries. I found this at the time far cheaper, then what Coles were giving us. Now they want to give us 8 cents off our fuel, but they don't have 91 Unleaded. Instead they have E10?
I used to all our shopping at Coles, since it was in the older building where Golo is(now Crazy Clarks) in the mid 90s. The biggest problem with this store is the parking, hence if I needed some quick service, I have then converted to Woolworths. Now it is the local IGA. Most of my bulk groceries is Aldi Toronto. Easy parking. Better quality, and much cheaper.
They do 91 Unleaded! No Ethanol! Furthermore, no pressure for shop-a-docket vouchers, or buying the recommended special of the week. They have a small cafe, and apparently are setting up a small news agency (as they already have the newspaper run)
They did some work on my wife's woodwind instrument. It was from a country that no longer exists. She was extremely upset that they changed what they did, in that some items were replaced with inferior items. Also, they don't open Saturday's.
Approximate cost: $220.00
Hey it's Woolworths! How can you expect them to be 'fresh' or great value for money. This has been a good store over the years, as the staff, if you get to know them are friendly, helpful. I've had some bad batches of chicken pieces in the last few years so I mainly goto our local IGA. I also found the staff in the deli could be quite unfriendly, but they do work hard and are often asked to provide small amounts of products. Realistically, the supermarkets have destroyed delicatessans, and we can only blame them for the lack of variety/service.
Admittedly, I usually goto Kotara or Charlestown, this store is quite large and well set out. The only issue is that parking can be quite difficult, and you need to park in KFC, Harris Farm, or Hungry Jacks.
I have been here a few times, and they have been helpful. I went there one day during a sale, and saved quite a few dollars on our overall purchase.
We go on holidays to Kiama for a few weeks every year. The drive here is well worth the petrol used. Not only that, they also have a bottle shop. My only gripe is that they had sold out of a few items, so I had to still goto Woolworths (and pay more $$$).
Prior to Aldi opening up at Toronto, I used to shop here. I do still come here as they are close to where I work. Very well set out. The manager Christie is also great.
