Firstly, Doug replies to text messages and calls as soon as he can. Does not treat women as fools and is always on time. If there is a slight variation with the appointment will give loads of notice to confirm it's OK with the customer. Polite, efficient, brilliant electrical skills and your ONLY Brunswick electrician. Well known in my street over many years has become 'our secret'. I never bother with a quote because safety & expertise is paramount, why would I bother? Job done once, job done right. 3 small jobs completed promptly on the day - we swapped a couple of light switches around on a panel for practicality, replaced a microwave globe (no way was I having a go after the YouTube video!) and checked a dud table lamp switch. A friend had left a retro lamp with me - more issues were revealed as Doug began to replace the old switch. He was completely honest re the high cost/time if my friend chose to go ahead with the work. All fully explained and demonstrated to me. Thanks Doug - always a pleasure!

I think from memory this is Doug's 5th visit here. I needed several extra double power points installed in a particular area after an NBN installation. It's like greeting a family member now! Doug lets me know every step of the way any small issues that arise, is fastidious, efficient and totally trustworthy. Always happy to recommend to friends and neighbours. I would never bother getting a quote from another trades person, Why would I? As a single woman I am never treated in a patronizing manner as tradespeople often do. Brunswick's best kept secret!

I have had Doug back 3 times since my last review, for three different issues.
Firstly, he installed a trip switch to my terrace. Obviously a lengthy process, Doug texted the night prior to confirm the time, and as usual was on time. He worked solidly to have everything safely installed, explaining all steps throughout the process.

Doug on the next occasion installed spot lighting (8 sep locations) throughout my house. Fiddly and time consuming, no complaints, just hard work! A neat tidy job again.

Recently I had that horrible burning electrical smell from a wall panel of 3 light switches. Doug was very flexible and fitted me in to his busy Saturday schedule at 7am to replace the panel, and remove the culprit, an offending dimmer switch (that was not needed with the new spot lighting).

Doug's constant concern for safety, explaining everything fully, reliability with communication and appointment times, makes him the professional that he is. This is the trifecta for him to be undoubtedly your ONLY electrician.

After spending over $400 on basic reading glasses in April, I was sick of the wobbly arms. Went back today to discuss. 'Sorry, only a ONE MONTH guarantee' (now 3 months later). 'You should have been told they were spring arms'... well no I wasn't. Nothing they can do, good as saying 'bad luck'. After buying several pairs of reading glasses and sunglasses there, all I can say is 'allelujia that Specsavers opened 3 months ago in the same shopping complex'. You have lost me OPSM, no loyalty remains to your store, company and attitude.

Approximate cost: $400 +

Doug phoned promptly after my first contact via this page. He even phoned after the chaos of returning from holidays when we were to catch up. He clearly keeps an organised diary which is obvious! Doug arrived right on time to remove 4 existing light fittings with 4 new Victorian pendant fittings. I did not realise it would necessitate Doug needing to crawl around in the ceiling over the hallway and two rooms. Considering there were books/papers and the usual tax chaos everywhere, Doug deserves a gold star to have worked so efficiently with multiple obstacles! His experiences shows, I have already recommended him to several friends and I am delighted to have him return in the near future to install other new lighting and a trip switch.

I went to redeem 2 cards of loyalty stamps today, from plant purchases over many years. There is no expiry date on these cards. I was told 'they were out of date and Poynton' s no longer had that type'. If I paid $5 I could start a new card! Zero points for customer service, loyalty, simply pure greed in my book. What possible incentive is there for me to return to this overpriced business?

As per the previous writer, we also found Miss Marmalade lacking in the friendliness/service area. (Pennyroyal next door, now closed as of about October 2011) had it in spades. Also, single diners are muchly ignored here, couples appear to be served first.. more $$? Through 2011 they often just 'close when they feel like it' in the afternoon. JUST when we want a coffee, hence we are discovering more user-friendly cafe's in Brunswick. And it IS a competitive business, you do develop great loyalty somewhere and 'spread the word'.

Approximate cost: $13- 17

After trooping around 8, yes 8 local cycle shops to purchase a basic 'middle of the road' bicycle, was met with a mix of indifference, slack attitude, zero customer service. Yes I am a middle aged woman, but I have money to spend! This store tops it with genuine enthusiasm, interest, finding out other options for you. Could not recommed this business more highly, and I made sure I let them know at time of purchase. Well done boys.
