This review is for The Original Pancake Kitchen, Adelaide SA

This place is eternal, and a place where my sisters and I have a soft spot for. The reason, is that we always visited here when we were kids!
It's a pity the place is getting a little expensive now, although I imagine their overheads are quite high.

I will let you in on a little secret though: during Fringe season, it's where all the sideshow freaks and performers go when everything else is closed, so if you're after some atmosphere and a sighting of your favourite fringe star, try the Pancake kitchen late!

I've eaten here twice more since I reviewed them last a few years ago. I feel like they have grown since I first visited; they have ironed out some of the kinks and developed their menu.

One thing they still haven't ironed out, though, is the slight awkwardness of the downstairs walk-in-only eating area. One shares a bench with others, and as I eat with my left hand and most eat with their right, I find myself struggling not to bump elbows with the person to my left.

However, the food is heavenly and worth this slight frustration. Most recently, I had a scotch fillet with mushroom sauce: pretty unadventurous of me, on such a fancy menu. But it was beautiful, and everything that you'd expect from press. Perfectly cooked, with elegant presentation. A real crossover between fine dining and casual elegance; another place we don't have to dress up to the nines to enjoy.

This review is for La Tombola Italian Restaurant, Parkside SA

I've never been to Italy, however my boyf used to work in an Italian restaurant with two italian chefs. Because of this, he's quite picky about what feels like 'real italian'. Not to say that two aussies can definitely know... but there's a difference between food done well, and with care and respect for the original recipe, and the alternative! We had heard about La Tombola and made the small trip to Parkside to check out whether it was as good as reviews say!

La Tombola is great, and ticked every box that the boyf could hope for. The antipasto was generous, and I had a beautiful ravioli which featured a wonderful fragrant sauce, and the boyf a pasta dish with veal, which he loved.

The place is very family friendly, and it's always quite bustling so you need to book in advance. It's easy to understand why; the place is no-nonsense, great service, great chilled atmosphere, and you don't have to get super dressed up to enjoy a lovely night out.

This review is for Bracegirdle's House of Fine Chocolate, Glenelg SA

Oh my goodness, Bracegirdles! What a wonderful place. The delicious, thick, hot chocolate that's not like other hot chocolates because it's literally made from liquid milk or dark chocolate with milk... the baguettes and snacks... the beautiful, jewel-like hand-made chocolates which entice and entrance...

Bracegirdles has rightly won a brace of awards for these things.

Their rooms and decor, as well as their customer service are all great too!

Giraffes are my spirit animal! A little while ago, I had my sister over with her youngest son for his school holidays. We took a trip out to monarto and had the most lovely day!
You ride around in a souped-up public transport-type bus, and hear lots of insightful things about the animals.

It's a little expensive (70ish including the bus trip). But it's one of those experiences kids won't forget.

This review is for the bunker sports-bar and grill, Adelaide SA

verified email - 12 Sep 2016

The bunker is a bit tacky and a bit cheesy. It has decor designed in the style of a 'Bunker', with camo everywhere. It is also a sports bar, with a huge screen playing sports, or sometimes a reality show or some such if the bar is a bit quiet.
However, if you're a student after a cheap feed and a schooner, the bunker might just be what you're after. For $10, you can get a pizza, nachos or burger and a cider or beer.

The food is wonderful for the price - as tasty or tastier than any other similar in the area.

Try it out!

This review is for My Charcoal Kebab House, Hindmarsh SA

****A word of warning: this menu is medium to hot if you are a sook like me!****

I ordered from My charcoal kebab house, and asked the server if the menu was hot. I was told the menu was mild- medium. However, when I got my food, it was all quite hot for me: just on the edge of being edible!

However, the food was fantastic. I held on and managed the heat, because I couldn't resist the delicious flavours. The lamb skewers in a wrap were fragrant and delicious, the manto meal that I shared with the boyf was a great blend of sweet and hot, and the charcoal chicken was fantastic ( I ate some of his!).

I don't know that I will personally eat from this place again - because it is a lil too hot for my palate. However, I couldn't help but give it 5 stars, because any restaurant which convinces me to eat hot food, deserves that rating.

If you like hot food, you will probs find the menu has a blend of mild and hot items, and that it is wonderful. However, if you're a sook like me, or some of my friends whose palates are even more sensitive than mine... well, this might not be for you!

This review is for Barney's chicken and seafood, Croydon SA

verified email - 12 Sep 2016

This has to be one of the best takeaways in Adelaide!!! They do amazing chicken and amazing seafood. I was worried that my order wouldn't be big enough, so I ordered two items, and was eating the leftovers for lunch the next day!

The chicken is juicy and generous, and the seafood is good - not perfect, but 5 stars when compared to any other fast-food seafood I've ever eaten!

If you're home alone and hungry, try barney's, you'll thank me!!

This review is for Ginza Miyako Japanese Restaurant, Adelaide SA

verified email - 12 Sep 2016

The food here is amazing, fantastic, mouth watering! The salmon, the agedashi tofu, the tonkatsu pork, the little duck mini-taco entrees (which are made of soft, delicious dough) - all of these dishes are wonderful!

However, while the lunch might be cheap, the prices are quite expensive for dinners. Most dishes cost around $25 plus rice, and the entrees are tiny and not super cheap.

I will probably eat from this restaurant again, as they deliver, and their food is awesome, but it's not quite worth the price. If you're thinking of doing there for dinner, I suggest giving it a try if you have money to burn and love delicious japanese, but if you're on a budget, maybe check the menu first!

This review is for CiCi's Pizza Kitchen, Hindmarsh SA

verified email - 12 Sep 2016

I've had Cici's pizza and schnitzels before, and both have been fantastic.

The schnitzel is a huge size, and comes with a cute complimentary salad and chips.

The only reason I've not given five stars is that I have found the schnitzel can be 10% undercooked; if you put the schnitzel in oil that is a little too hot, the outside gets delicious and perfectly crispy before the inside of the schnitzel crumb-dough stuff is wholly cooked, so it tastes a little doughy. However, everything else about this eatery is fantastic, the food is wonderful!
