This review is for Chicken & Pig, Adelaide SA

There are only two choices at Chicken and Pig: A box with 3 choices of salad and meat in it, or a roll with meat and cabbage or lettuce in it.
The salads are super delicious - the lentil and pumpkin was spectacular. But the meat is a small-regular portion for the box price of $13, and the roll is a bare concoction for the price of $8.

I love slowcooked meat, but this area is teeming with cute hip lunch places, and there is fantastic banh mi for around $8 a quick hop skip and jump away.

Also, the boxes are poorly designed and can get quite leaky. I think they need to rethink that, for the price!

This review is for Kuo Chi Oriental Supermarket, Adelaide SA

Update: I went in looking for red beans which go in dessert, and the gentleman steered me towards kidney beans, which are of course, a savory bean. I didn't know that this had happened until I got home. I won't be going to this store again.

****

Bought some Chinese Pearl Barley and red beans here. I usually feel pretty comfortable just looking around until I find my products in an Asian supermarket, but in this place I did feel slightly uncomfortable. As a result, I bought less than I would have. However, the prices are decent and the ceramics are beautiful, I might come back to purchase some in the future.

Wow, these guys are great!
They are so efficient, and upbeat, and I wasn't expecting to get so much money for our empties.
If you live or commute around the area, I heartily recommend starting a bottle collection and bringing them to the lovely, hardworking dudes at Oaklands Road Bottle Co.

Ps - the entrance to the gate can be tricky to find, especially when there's lots of traffic. Be sure to get an accurate gps location and maybe have a navigating friend in the seat next to you!

This review is for Little Tokyo!, Adelaide SA

This is my go-to place to buy cheap, good quality, japanese sake to make teriyaki with.
It also has the most lovely collection of Japanese ceramics, and I have in the past bought some lovely pieces as gifts. I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Little Tokyo!

This review is for Asian Grocery, Torrensville SA

I stopped in here today to buy some chinese pearl barley. We love to eat grains, and are always trying new ones out.

In the proccess, I discovered that Asian Grocery has a wonderful butcher out the back with prices 2/3 of those in other butchers and supermarkets.

I was also able to buy some brisket there, which is a cut not often seen in Adelaide butchers or supermarkets, and am looking forward to trying it out on the weekend!

This review is for Banh Mi Cafe, Torrensville SA

The tastiness and freshness of these Banh Mi give other fab banh mi places in the area a run for their money!
The only suggestions I have are that you ask for less or no onion, as I ended up with a killer case of onion breath, and that they perhaps put some pictures up of their wares, as I always confuse the types of pork and accidentally, unwittingly ordered the proccessed lunchmeat pork instead of the one that is red on the outside. (Next time, though, I will ask of course!).

The decor is cute and it is clear the proprietors have put a lot of effort into making this cafe great. I would definitely try their pho if I were in the area again!

This review is for Haigh's Chocolates, Parkside SA

Utterly amazing chocolates - if you are from out of town, you MUST come here and try the beautiful chocolates. Although the building is unassuming, the chocolate is all that matters!! You can get some good discounts on chocolate which is supposedly imperfect, but this usually consists of a wonky line here and a dot of exposed filling there.

Wonderful, perfect chocolate.

This review is for Woodleys Central News Agency, Mandurah WA

This newsagency has so many cards to choose from, we got stuck in here for 45 mins trying to decide!
We were buying cards for two birthdays, and in the end, walked away with three beautiful cards, one to share and two to give seperately. The choice was so good that we left with more than we had planned to!

This review is for THE MANTLE, Fremantle WA

verified email - 21 Jan 2016

The thing that stands out about the Mantle is the amazing service. We were at a family event and afterwards, we all split up and the younger ones went for drinks. The Mantle was my hosts' first choice, as they knew it would be welcoming and fun.
The Mantle is a huge warehouse with a mezzanine floor, which hosts both regular bars and a few pop-up kitchens. The atmosphere is fantastic, the place is rustic and unassuming, and the lighting makes one feel as if you have the place to yourself.
But the service! The bar staff were sweet and friendly, and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed.
A fantastic place to drink some cocktails!

This review is for waterlily beauty & makeup studio, Mandurah WA

We found Waterlily by doing a google search, as we are out-of-towners. My cousin wanted a beauty gift voucher for her birthday, and this place was convenient and looked nice.
Inside, the store was lovely, clean, and had exciting stock, with beautiful makeup products that I wanted to buy right then and there.

The attendant was vibrant, bubbly and so helpful - I felt like she was there to help, not to sell. She explained that the voucher could be used for whatever my cousin wanted - which was a breath of fresh air, given that we have had completely different experiences with gift voucher terms and conditions in Adelaide.

I would have no hesitation recommending this salon, and I look forward to hearing how my cousin used her voucher!
