This review is for Cold Rock Ice Creamery, Wilston QLD

Have to admit I'm more of a Baskin Robbins girl but when it has to be ice cream, I'll take what's closest if necessary.

I don't go in for the mix-ins and I find the ice cream a bit lacking in flavour compared to BR but a bit of chocolate fudge sauce goes a long way in making a difference.

The staff are always friendly and they don't mind offering taste tests. You can sit inside or outside. Prices are ok.

Great location, right in the middle of about a dozen restaurants in Wilston Village.

Approximate cost: $7

This review is for Caffe Di Vita, Wilston QLD

There are a number of dining options at Wilston Village and it's hard to choose but Caffe di Vita is a good choice. I've been there for breakfast and lunch (had a great steak there!) and would definitely go again.

You can sit inside or outside and watch the passing parade. The service is good and the food is above average cafe fare.

Recommended for a leisurely Sunday breakfast.

Approximate cost: $15

Really friendly service, easy parking and delicious food. Last time I went it was for a business breakfast meeting and the options were excellent.

The staff are friendly and obliging and the owner does a great job of keeping the restaurant running like a well-oiled engine.

Haven't been for dinner yet but I plan to in the near future.

Approximate cost: $25

This review is for The Coffee Club, Wilston QLD

I always enjoy eating here because the owners are so lovely.

Great Eggs Benedict and I like the coffee. If you need to do some work, there is free wi-fi as well. Parking is usually pretty easy out on the street. Sit inside or outside as you prefer.

Don't overlook Coffee Club for meals as they have some very tasty options on the menu.

Approximate cost: $24

This review is for Australia Post, Grange QLD

I doubt there is a better Post Office in Brisbane! Chris is the owner and sole staffer at Grange Post Office and he takes great pride in his business. His customer service ethics are second to none and he always goes the extra mile to make customers happy.

If you turn up at the PO with a parcel that you're not sure how to bundle up, he'll not only advise but do it for you! He saves boxes out the back for just that purpose.

Customers love going in to Grange PO for a chat or to feel as though they matter which is rare in modern times. Chris IS Grange PO and he's also got a finger on the pulse of the entire suburb as well as Wilston, Stafford, Newmarket and probably many others too!

This review is for Sizzler, Mitchelton QLD

Sizzler is a great standby when you don't feel like cooking and you want to get out somewhere. There are plenty of healthy options (as well as unhealthy ones!) so you can eat your fill of salad if you like.

I usually get the ribs which I enjoy, or I just get the salad bar. As pricing goes, I think Sizzler is getting up there. Couldn't call it a 'cheap' family outing anymore. We recently had breakfast there and for one adult and two older teens, it's a $60 breakfast.

Being regulars, we usually know a few of the staff on shift. The service is good but can be a little slow in busy times.

Overall we enjoy Sizzler and will probably continue to be regulars for years to come :).

This review is for Chemist Warehouse, Windsor QLD

verified email - 27 Apr 2012

Chemist Warehouse at Windsor is open until 11pm Mon - Fri and 6pm on weekends. Parking is right out the front so it's easy to run in when you're not feeling well and need to stock up on provisions. You can get gifts, prescriptions, over the counter medications, health and beauty items and there is a large wall of perfumes from $14.95 through to the more expensive ones.

One complaint is that all the perfumes are locked away ... even the testers! You have to disturb staff who may be otherwise busy, to get them to use the keys to open the cabinets and drawers, which really puts you off buying.

The pharmacists are always helpful, even when you ring and ask advice. Glad to have them in my neighbourhood!

This review is for Terry White Chemist, Lutwyche QLD

verified email - 27 Apr 2012

Whenever I'm at Lutwyche I can't resist going in to Terry White as they have lots of impulse purchases at the front. I don't always buy, but I like to browse! ;)

The staff are always knowledgeable and helpful and service is prompt. Some of their pricing is cheaper than at other chemists. Drop off prescriptions and do shopping then come back and spare yourself the wait.

This review is for Baskin Robbins, Kedron QLD

I can't understand how serving ice cream can be so miserable. You'd think so by the looks on the staff's faces. No smile, borderline unpleasant, I wish they'd get someone new there.

That said, I always enjoy B&R ice cream! Can't beat a big chocolate ice cream fix, especially if it has chocolate fudge sauce!

Parking is easy and the store is clean (but perhaps could do with a little makeover).

There is usually better service at the Aspley store.

This review is for Focus Apartments, Surfers Paradise QLD

verified email - 27 Apr 2012

We had a great time at Focus Apartments in the April school holidays. We had a 3 bedroom (with ensuite and main bathroom) apartment for 6 of us. The apartment was spacious, well appointed, clean and comfortable. It has its own laundry with washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board, a balcony off the kitchen, living room and each of the bedrooms, a large flat screen TV, DVD player, big dining table, full size kitchen with microwave and fridge and dishwasher.

There is also a small basketball court, swimming pool, spa, two excellent outdoor barbecue areas, a ping pong/games room, tennis court and DVDs for rental. We didn't try the Chinese restaurant downstairs.

Focus is in close proximity to everything you could want including the bungee bullet across the road, Surfers Paradise beach across the Esplanade, and all the shops and restaurants in Surfers.

The staff are friendly and helpful, car parking is secure and free, the building has three elevators and everything was in working order. Only complaint is the stove and oven are SLOW and there aren't enough cooking pots for such a large family. Other than that, we had a totally enjoyable holiday.
