This review is for Shanghai House, North Adelaide SA

Shanghai house offers a very authentic range of chinese dishes - they do a good westernised sweet and sour (very sweet!), but if you want something a little different, check out their szechuan and yunnan province-styled foods. One item on the menu I didn't think I'd like was the pickled squid... turned out to be delicious! Definitely worth checking out next time you're in the mood for Chinese.

This review is for Queen's Head Hotel, North Adelaide SA

The first thing I notice about The Queen's Head Hotel is its very rustic feel. The pub itself is over 150 years old, and I love the atmosphere. Some of the pub staples are absent, but they more than make up for it with a variety of modern dishes. On my last visit, I was pleasantly surprised by their grilled king george whiting. The service is good, and the value is also excellent - would recommend.

This review is for Bocca Cafe, North Adelaide SA

Bocca Cafe definitely holds its own among the myriad of Cafe's down Melbourne Street in North Adelaide. They do a variety of baguettes for lunch, always fresh, and I would have to recommend their signature dish vitello di involtini, a beautiful cut of veal with spinach and ricotta in a napolitana sauce. Their service is always high, and price is good for the quality of food you get. I recommend.

This review is for Lirra Lirra Cafe, Urrbrae SA

Lirra Lirra is the Waite Campus Cafe for the University of Adelaide. It used to prepare nice food with good portion sizes and at decent prices, but have recently come under new management. With this new management, the prices have increased, the quality of food has decreased, and the portion sizes have also decreased. I paid around $12 for fish and chips and received two tiny fish (about 6 mouthfulls), and a small handfull of chips - I was very unsatisfied afterward. Their schnitzels are often OK, but even then I've had several examples of small or overcooked schnitzels... and I wish they wouldn't put them on the chips! Oh well, if you're at the Waite campus, where else are you going to go?

This review is for Chefs Of Tandoori, Malvern SA

verified email - 15 Nov 2009

Much to my girlfriends delight, we decided to have a 100% vegetarian take away night around two weeks ago, and Chefs of Tandoori was the place she picked. I was very pleasantly surprised by the range of their vegetarian dishes and their high quality. Both the Dhal and Saag Paneers were fresh and tasty, and not too spicy! They also do a nice garlic naan. Reasonably priced, great service, great food.

This review is for Cafe Mondiali, Parkside SA

verified email - 15 Nov 2009

Cafe Mondiali prepares a wonderful assortment of pastas, pizzas and calzones. Although the quality of most of the menu is a mystery to me, their creamy chicken polo is delicious (every cafe prepares this dish and I find myself using it for comparison :S), and their margherita pizzas are tasty (according to my girlfriend). The service is relatively good, they're quick to get the meals out, and the price is also very reasonable.

This review is for Flinders University Tavern, Bedford Park SA

verified email - 15 Nov 2009

I was surprised to have not found a review for the tav in womow - it's the main 'alcohol serving' area of Flinders University, and is my favorite hang out spot on the main campus. The beers are reasonably priced, they do the usual bowls of wedges and chips, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. They have pool tables and dart boards, and music is always playing (even if it isn't always good). A great place to sit down with friends and sink a few beers after a boring lecture.

This review is for Chargrill Chickens On Parade, Norwood SA

verified email - 15 Nov 2009

Chickens on Parade is an above average chicken shop located down the parade in Norwood (surprise surprise). It appealed to me right away as it serves Lilydale free range chickens (I swear they taste better), and their chips were crispy and well salted. They also have a large range of drinks so you're not just stuck with the usual selections.

This review is for Parade Fish Cafe, Norwood SA

Parade Fish Shop is another relatively generic take away store preparing the usual Fish and chip shop foods. The staff weren't very friendly (maybe I visited when they had different staff to the previous reviewer, or maybe they just didn't like my look), the chips and prawns were rather tasty, but their selection of salads was a bit sub par (going through the motions). I would visit again though, but their service and menu doesn't stand out.

This review is for Spats Cafe, Hyde Park SA

verified email - 15 Nov 2009

Spats cafe has a great atmosphere, and it's one of my favorite places to sit down for a glass of red wine with friends in winter. Prices are reasonably good, considering its location. the only downfall is it's bizarre opening hours (doesn't open till late)
