My partners Father, who has very little English and is 74, went with Telstra for his Internet (against my recommendations). He clearly didn't understand the first thing about any of the details - bandwidth, pricing, usage (I love the guy, but he is severely technologically challenged) - nonetheless, he was assured by the telstra salespeople that the package would suit web browsing, email and skyping. It was Skype that he most wanted, as all of his aging relatives in the old country were getting into it and he just loves being able to see their faces and homes, you get the picture. I warned him that Telstra often charges heavily for excess usage, but he has been with them telephony-wise since, well, forever, and trusted them implicitly. About 3 weeks later he phoned in a lather, having just received a bill for $380.00. After a bunch of calls trying to work out what had happened, we drove to sydney to get a look at his contract and to represent him to Telstra. It turns out they had sold him a 400mb\month plan. That 400megs didn't even cover the download of skype. To cut a long story short, it took us three weeks laden with legal threats from both sides, involvement from the ombudsman and many, many hours on the phone to thier shockingly inept complaints department to get the contract annuled, and all monies returned.
In short the only conclusion I can draw from Telstras behavior is that they cynically set out to gouge money from a non english speaking technologically illiterate pensioner. They are the worst supplier of any service, in my view, and I will not shed a tear when they finally go under.

I went to Melbourne to visit my Friend, when I ran out of Credits for my Mobile, we went to town to find the telstra store. It was a small Store and the Service there was exelent.

I have my house, internet and mobile through Telstra. I am a little dissapointed the way they have handled my business with them. The service I have received when calling them up is a little below my standards.
I was a telstra customer for over 10 years. Telstra changed my plan without warning me (I had been on a capped plan for 6 years), and claimed they were entitled to do that if they wanted to. All of a sudden, they charged me three times what I had been paying! They said it was a "more suitable plan!!!!! but it was very clear exactly who it was more suitable for! Suffice it to say, I am no longer with them.
How many times do you have to call them to fix up something on your bill - about 5 and still counting ! - over it all - I am sick of having to chase them up every single month - how hard is it to get it right - starting to think they are stuffing it up on purpose to get more money out of the consumer - if you have a choice - choose another network !
it just annoys you that even if you disconnect with them , they still keep ringing you to try to drag you back. claiming improved service , great value...bahbahbah, the fact is that they don't treat you well when you are a customer. disappointing
I have my home phone connected with them and although i have no complaints about the service they provide, they have spelt my name wrong on my bill for the last 3 years and after ringing and asking repeatedly to change it, this has not been done.
Asked for service to remove pre-existing service by another provider several times, but this was not done. they could never fix their technical support system. They need better staff training and care for their customers.
Approximate cost: $30
Telstra continually amazes me at the lengths they will go to to overcharge a customer, and yet they are completely lacking in customer service. Having recently moved to the country, we joined telstra till we had researched a better company. We found a better one within a month and were happy... till Telstra has continued to send us a monthly bill for 6 months. They will do anything to make money.
