This review is for Dendy Cinemas, Hamilton QLD

I was surprised by how small this cinema is, but that just means less people to annoy you while you enjoy the movie in their large comfy chairs. A little bit more expensive than the commercial cinemas, but here you are supporting more independent films and get the privacy of a smaller audience.

Approximate cost: $17.50 per adult

These guys really know what the market wants. Great food, good service and a reasonable price. They use good quality ingredients and you can taste it in the finished product. Most of the menu is preprepared and toasted or heated up on request, but you wouldn't know. I think because of how busy they get, everything is made not long before you buy it. Finding a table/seat can be difficult during lunch as they are VERY popular. A must try if you are in the area.

This review is for James Street Markets, Fortitude Valley QLD

We always shop at James Street for our fruit and vegetables. The prices are a little higher, but the quality is better and produce tends to last longer. They also have a butcher which again is a little more expensive but worth it for the quality products they sell. The staff always have a smile and are always willing to assist you with products that are not available on the shelves. Parking is the biggest problem here as it is in a busy shopping area.

This review is for Pancakes On The Rocks, Mermaid Beach QLD

This is a spin off of the pancake restaurant group "The Pancake Manor" from Brisbane. First time to try it at a different location, and the experience was just as enjoyable. We both had pancakes and they did not disappoint. The decor is modern, servings are generous, food quality is good and the service is friendly. They are located on a long busy stretch of highway, but they are easy to find and there is off street parking available.

This review is for Shiraz Authentic Persian Restaurant, Surfers Paradise QLD

Tried Persian cuisine for the first time here at Shiraz. The restaurant is fairly fair basic with a simple decor. The staff are very friendly and the service was good. The food was impressive, good quality ingredients, a very tasty menu and a very reasonable price. We had the Kashk-e-badenjan (eggplant dip) and a combination of three kebabs with rice. The portions were large enough for two of us to share an entree and a main.

While most of their mains contain meat, they do have a rather large selection of vegetarian dishes and the entire menu is Halal.

We booked here via a Jetstar special and were pleasantly surprised by the room. Large, spacious, all the facilities you expect with friendly and helpful staff. The location is close enough to walk to Cavill Ave yet far enough away to avoid the crowds and drunken yobbos. The price we got was very cheap, but I understand that the standard rate is quite reasonable also. The only real negative was the secure parking, an additional cost and if they are heavily booked you have to use the carpark 2 blocks away.

All in all it was an enjoyable stay.

This review is for Strike Bowling Bar, Surfers Paradise QLD

Tried bowling for the first time last weekend and was very happy with Strike. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and they have everything you could ask for (bar with food, pool tables and of course bowling lanes). We first looked at one of the other bowling alleys, but it was too crowded. Strike is a little further out from Cavill Ave, which meant less crowded (which suited us fine).

All in all a great night out at a reasonable price.

This review is for Ichi-Ban Boshi Japanese Noodle Shop, Southport QLD

Best ramen outside of Japan (even better than some in Japan). I cannot fault Ichiban Boshi. The ramen itself is not quite the same as in Japan but still very good, and the soups are out of this world in flavour.

Great food at a great price. The service is no frills but I have never had a bad experience.

This review is for Bishamon Japanese Restaurant, Spring Hill QLD

Probably my favourite Japanese restaurant in Brisbane. The restaurant has a simple yet effective decor with a good atmosphere. The teppanyaki does not have the "song and dance" of other restaurants but is outstanding in flavour. The al-a-carte menu is very good, providing a wide variety of traditional Japanese meals. For me the stand out is the buffet style sukiyaki, top quality ingredients at an extremely affordable price.

This review is for Sono Japanese Restaurant, Hamilton QLD

verified email - 13 Jun 2013

Sono is close to the best overall Japanese dining experience in Brisbane. The food is very good, service is top notch and the menu is somewhat different to other Japanese restaurants. My only criticisms would be that it is a little expensive and that the menu is a little disappointing in it's choices of alternative Japanese cuisine.
