Thai Pothong is a really spacious upmarket restaurant with beautiful decor and furnishings. (I love the gold). There is also a gift shop attached selling Thai decorative pieces and jewelery. The food itself is gorgeous, very nice and of a high standard, with prices that match. Perhaps the only downside is that it was a bit crowded and noisy. Otherwise, a lovely dining experience if you're willing to shell out some money on a great night out.
This takeaway shop is modern and funky and has a great vibe to it. There's lots of fresh gourmet salads on offer and they do great roast chicken. Some of the salads are Australian and some Thai, I've tried a few and they are delicious and colourful. But a little more expensive than Clem's up the road opposite.
These guys are great. The gelato is mouthwatering and of a very high quality, with lots of flavours to choose from. I would definitely recommend this place, and it is packed in the evenings which says a lot. The decor is modern and funky with a nice blue theme. I love to drop by here after a dinner, it's relaxing. They also do coffees and milkshakes.
This was an enjoyable dining experience for me. The place was excellent, with lots of exotic African dishes on offer. I tried the Safari Beef which was yummy, and packed with flavour. They also make their own homemade ginger beer which I highly recommend. The staff are very helpful and friendly, overall I give this a thumbs up.
This is a very cool cafe which has a nice upstairs area with a balcony. The furniture is old and funky, making you feel at ease straight away- you feel like you are at a mate's place. I had the Eggs Benedict which was just awesome and full of flavour, it was mouthwatering and I was definitely impressed. There is just a great, relaxing vibe to this place. I highly recommend it.
These guys do great pizza, I've been a few times. My favourite is the Mexican which was about $14 for a medium size. Good price, and I loved the heat. You get a bit overwhelmed with the selection of pizzas, though, there's so much to choose from. They even do vegan pizzas
Cafe 279 is a lovely modern cafe with attractive decor and stylish art. There is a nice vibe here, and the food is tasty. I came once and tried a chicken souvlaki dish, it was great, I was really happy. The staff are friendly and the service was prompt. Nice, I would recommend to anyone not wanting to have Vietnamese food in old shops, which line Illawarra Rd.
This is a recently opened shop next to Marrickville Pork Roll. The latter is a tiny shop; Delish Pork Roll Bar by comparision is very spacious and offers delicious pork rolls, and roast BBQ pork rolls. I was impressed with the tastiness of the rolls and the cleanliness of the store in comparison to it's counterpart. There's lots of room to sit down and there's a large TV on for entertainment. The staff are really friendly, which is a plus. Highly recommended.
Approximate cost: $3.50
This is a tiny shop offering a variety of traditional Vietnamese pork rolls and chicken rolls. There's always customers queuing outside this shop, so it must be a favourite for locals. However, I would not recommend this place. The pork rolls are tasty with lots of variations and flavours packed with vegetables, but I get the feeling that they're not made hygenically. I've been a few times, and once I could taste some chemical (cleaning chemical perhaps?). It put me off. I would never give my kids pork rolls from any shop.
Barmuda is a lovely cafe on Australia St, a bit away from the busyness of King St. It's a wonderful open cafe with seating outdoors, making it most definitely child and baby friendly- its full of mothers with prams every time I walk past. I've been here once for breakfast, and I was pretty pleased. I had toast with vegemite and a yoghurt dish with muesli. I remember thinking the price was a bit high for just a small serving of yoghurt, but it was fresh and tasty (and healthy). The staff are friendly and it's always packed, so customers must love it.
