Looks can be deceiving... we stumbled upon this place whilst looking for coffee/breakfast on good friday. Found it to be open after we saw people eating outside on the tables on the footpath. You would miss if it it wasn't so bright compared to the other shops on this street. Once inside, we had to squash past the kitchen and counter to a bigger back area, complete with a fire, which was comforting on a cold rainy melbourne day. Decor was interesting and a talking point, but not very consistent, and we found the scribbled 'steps to opening a cafe' on the wall a bit out of place.
Coffee was good and at a good price, but we didn't stay here to eat as the menu was confusing (didn't mention if certain items were included, basic things like if toast comes with eggs or not), and a bit too expensive for some items. The menu also included random quotes and explanations, trying to keep with an american/new york kind of theme, but it didn't work for us. specials on the board didn't seem like specials at all - at 29/27 dollars and 18 for entrees'. Don't come here unless you plan to spend up. The waiter got our order wrong (my boyfriend said he wasn't allowed regular milk and we were given skim in one and full cream in the other coffee), and reacted with surprise/ slight discontent when we said we didn't want to order food.
All in all, this place is ok, and the coffee prices are ok, but I wouldn't go back.

Nice, light and airy cafe, good clean and minimal feel to it. Nice coffee, made well, friendly staff and we were served promptly after coming in the door. Meals are rich and hearty, servings are big enough but not too generous, prices are to be expected for a Sydney Rd cafe. Some of the food had an overpowering smell, not a bad smell, just very rich smelling. The spoon I was given with my coffee was dirty, but changed promptly. Nice place but not sure I would come here often. Would be better suited to a takeaway

Approximate cost: $15-20

This restaurant is a good stand-by if it is late and you want some hot food delivered. Good if it is late and you are hungry as they are open very late. a good option but there are better indian restaurants to go to if you order earlier. The last time we ordered here, one of the containers of food was only half-full, which was disappointing. Not enough meat for what you pay for either, in my opinion.

Approximate cost: $10-20

This place is ok for coffee and a quick bite, they made our order quickly enough and accurately. The coffees and food were good, not by any means great, but good and prices are ok, a little overpriced for what you get though. The appearance of the wait staff could be better as the barista's appearance was unkempt and this put me off my coffee somewhat (missing button on shirt, messy hair and somewhat unclean looking). Not sure I will be back but it was ok. nothing special in this cafe in my opinion. decor/atmosphere also is cramped and not pleasant for a long stay, takeaway would be the way to go if you came here.

this place is ok for a quick coffee and muffin deal or a lazy breakfast. Not actually fancy like the name suggests, quite the opposite. decor and interior is a bit outdated and could do with a big clean up/revamp. the couches near the kitchen were stained and the whole area inside was a bit dark in decor for my liking. had to wait for the one barista to come back in to make my coffee- why have wait staff that can't make coffee on? Coffee was good, I do have to say, and they obliged my request to add some natvia stevia (my own) into the coffee cup. This cafe serves some nice food at good prices but not sure I will be returning as it wasn't that up to scratch or a pleasant environment to eat in.

Approximate cost: $12-15

great little place tucked away on little bourke st. I wouldn't have noticed it was a cafe but for all the people hanging out in this little cafe and waiting for their coffee. No signage on the front and odd little decor items which adds to the charm of the hidden cafe. Good coffee but perhaps mine was made a little rushed as it was not as excellent as others have described. Hard to move around in this place due to all the people there, even on a Sunday, so I felt a bit cramped when waiting for my coffee, but it was made quite quickly. I would have to say it was expensive for what it was, they only do one size take away and this was 4.00 for a small coffee. It was ok but by no means amazing for the cost.

Approximate cost: $4.00 small cofee

GREAT place to get good food, and fast. I was in and out the door in less than 10mins for takeaway but that had no impact on the quality of the food- fantastic. it was hot, fresh, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside-just how Gozleme should be. Very friendly staff too and good prices. They serve Turkish drinks too like Gazoz, and have good deals on like Gozleme and coffee for $12. All up, this cost $15.50 for two drinks and Gozleme. I was full for hours afterward and couldn't eat it fast enough. Their Gozleme comes with yoghurt, which is a nice addition. I'll be back very soon- loved it.

Approximate cost: $12.00 coffee and gozleme

fantastic little place for a quick haircut. My boyfriend and I walked in off the street and we were served right away. Very friendly service too, the man running the shop was very nice and asked us how we wanted it cut and our preferences. We were offered Turkish cologne which was also nice. Prices are great, $15 for a cut and the man took his time and did a great job, it looks great and my boyfriend looks a lot better and a lot less scruffy than when he walked in. relaxing environment with a nice window seat to sit on and papers to read, tv to watch. Fast and friendly service, no fuss. Just what we needed.

Approximate cost: $15

Good family vibe place for lunch or dinner, nice bistro area once you get past the sports/betting area bar at the front. Great play area for kids and can get a bit rowdy but it is very family friendly and the prices are great, lots of specials every day of the week like parma and flathead and chips $12. Good options, huge menu and nice clean interior. I couldn't stop looking at the huge greek statue and columns inside! Great decor. Good shop a docket offers too, but we bought off the menu. still great value and we'll be back for dinner again, food was tasty and staff pleasant.

Approximate cost: $12-18

ok place for a kebab, good location for Essendon locals. Fresh food but limited options and little variety. They offer a few different options but mainly this place is for kebab takeaway or eat in. Our kebabs were fresh and tasty, but my boyfriend and I both had stomach upsets for the next 2 days that we think is due to this place. Staff were friendly and we had a half price voucher after buying a full price kebab, which made it good value. Nice clean interior but nothing fancy, more of a take away place really. It is ok but nothing special, just another kebab vendor.

Approximate cost: $16.00 two kebabs
