I was drawn by the Coach and Horses (terrible pun, sorry) because its one of the few places in my local area serving Guinness on tap and I wanted that more than anything last night!!

I've driven past the C&H so many times but this was my first visit. It was relatively quiet although there were a couple of large groups of people, and our meals came out amazingly fast! The portions are very generous - my idea of having something from the 'light' part of the menu was still too much for me to finish off - and the atmosphere was pleasant. There is enough space between the bistro and the pokies section that you don't have to listen to the machines throughout your meal which is a bonus!

I'd be interested to see what it's like on busier nights but if you're after a decent feed (or a pint of Guinness!!) definitely give it a try :)

Approximate cost: $16 - $30

Months ago I bought a Cudo voucher for an absolute bargain. After my purchase I looked up the website, wasnt terribly enthused by what i saw and then forgot all about it. After a recently disappointing visit to a different hairdresser I remembered my voucher and having just discovered the delights of WOMO, did some research.

Since the reviews here were so favorable I booked an appointment. I am so happy with my experience I couldn't even wait to get home so am writing this on my bus journey home!

What a fantastic team! I went in with a clear idea of what I wanted which I discussed with my hairdresser. After a lot of consultation - including other staff members for second opinions - we took a completely different approach. I have crazy dry ends, they're seriously desert like they're that dry and my hair throws a ridiculous amount of red which I don't like.

Currently bottle brunette I was wanting to go lighter & figured the best approach was the good old two shades lighter full colour method. Fearing the already brittle nature of my hair & my strong desire not to be brassy (or indeed have to pay extra for toner to cut this back) I decided to put full faith in this person I had just met and went with a half head of foils. Risky business because tomorrow I am going on a blind date & didn't want a hair disaster!!

Anyway, I had my foils, toner, a treatment and a fabulous scalp massage that sadly didn't last longer (relaxation never lasts long enough!), a laws-of-nature defying trim which appears to have removed the crazy dry ends without losing any of the length! All finished off with a sexy wavy blow wave, created by no less than 3 staff members working on different sections of my hair - I felt like a celebrity with so much attention!!

And now I'm on the bus, a big smile on my face, hair that looks, feels and smells amazing and a new favourite salon, conveniently close to work and open until 7pm every night.

I highly recommend you pay them a visit. I'm going back soon for an intensive hair rehab treatment to try and get rid of the dry ends once and for all - amazingly in all my years of hair colouring and dry ends, this is the first salon to really take an interest, steer me away from further damage and suggest fixes! My hairdresser was Jona and she is lovely - as is everyone else who leant a hand.

This is one very happy customer :)

Although I don't shop here very often, whenever I do need a newsagency I make a point of making my purchase here. The first time I was in the store I was welcomed by such friendly and helpful staff, it left a lasting impression on me. Now, whenever I walk past, even if I don't stop in, we give a big smile and friendly wave to each other, and when Coca-Cola were doing their 'share a drink with...' promotion, the owners knew I was looking for my name so they kept an eye on their stocks for me and set one aside when they found it. Similarly when the Herald Sun had their cook book promotion, I'd missed the first few (not realising it had started) and they organised the ones I'd missed and kept weekend copies for me to purchase the following week. Now that is some seriously amazing customer service!!

It's also refreshing to find a family run business in the middle of the city, so I recommend anyone in the area to pop in, say hello and grab something - support small business! :)

This review is for Best Cuts and Colour, Melbourne VIC

I visited the Best Cuts and Colour shop in the Target Centre on Bourke street one lunch time and was amazed at how well priced it was (and it wasn't a dodgy job either!). So now I tend to visit the Lonsdale St shop on my way home from work.

Generally you can walk in off the street and see someone straight away, the most I've ever had to wait has been 10 minutes which is brilliant. Sana is by far my favourite hairdresser so I do try and book with her if I can plan enough in advance (although I havent seen her there for a long time, I hope she hasn't moved on...)

I've got long, thick hair which is very prone to dry, split ends and I am naturally blonde but am currently having it dyed dark brown. There is an ongoing deal which gives you a free haircut with every colour which is perfect for me!

There's always a good selection of (current - shocking I know!) magazines to flip through, the staff are willing to have a chat or, if you're like me and prefer just to sit back and relax in your own little bubble, they're just as happy to work in silence :)

I always walk out feeling a million dollars with fabulous hair which smells amazing and hasnt cost me an absolute fortune. I've also invested in some hair products in store (something I never usually do) to try and combat my dry, split ends, and each time I've gone to the register they've always given me a discount.

Now if they could just start using heated scissors they'd make my day!!

I know people get quite attached to their hairdresser, I've been there myself, but give Best Cuts and Colour a try, at least once... you may be surprised :)

This review is for Burke Road Vet, Hawthorn VIC

When I first got my cat I did a LOT of research into vet clinics and ended up trying Burke Rd vet. They're not the closest to me by a long shot but I don't mind the drive (my cat might tell you otherwise!) for the quality of service I receive. The staff are always so happy to see my cat and lavish him with attention. There's a photo wall in reception of people's pets which is great to see - it shows that they're not just a business, they really love what they do and their furry friends!

My cat had had to have his teeth cleaned a couple of times and the staff were more than willing to discuss the various options available to me and let me know which things were essential and which weren't if money was an issue - which it was a bit so it was nice to know certain medications etc were good but not essential. They could also see I was nervous having him put to sleep for the cleaning but gave me plenty of assurance and looked after him so well. They also gave me great advice for diet and I've been trying a new food and fingers crossed, my cats got his dental health back in check and won't require professional cleaning again.

I highly recommend this vet clinic to anyone in (or out like me!) the area, Tina is particularly awesome!

I used to dine here once a week and always found the food tasty and service friendly. Generally the prices are very good and they are more than happy to split the bill which is great!!

There was one night last year when I went with a large group of friends, they all received and finished their meals but I never received mine. I asked early on and was told it was on the way. It turned out there was some confusion and my meal was delivered to another table who had ordered the same thing. I was offered a meal on the house as compensation however by this stage I'd lost my appetite and as all my friends had finished their meals I couldn't see the point.

I have been back once since then and made it through over half my meal before I came across some broken glass in it. I alerted the manager who apologized and said he'd take care of it. When we went to pay I was charged full price for my meal. I queried this and the manager was called over again. I was asked what I expected him to do (which I thought was quite rude considering I almost swallowed glass!) and when I said I didn't think I should have to pay he offered to reduce the cost by half, then he came up with an amount for me to pay which was more than half!

I couldn't be bothered arguing any further but I have never returned and have told everyone I know about this experience and now I am sharing it here.

This review is for La Porchetta, Donvale VIC

After waiting for so long for this restaurant to open I was keen to support them locally as I have long been a fan of La Porchetta restaurants. The food here is great value, piping hot and the quality is always consistent. I wish I could say the same of the service. My first meal there the service was very poor. My meal came out before my dad had even received his entree, then his entree arrived at the same time as his main and the staff seemed surprised when we requested his meal be brought out after he had finished entree. We asked multiple times for water for the table which we only received after asking to speak with the manager, and even then we had to ask her twice! We were given the reasoning that all the staff were trainees who were getting used to a new restaurant. Surely on a busy night (Friday) so soon after opening they would have had more experienced staff assisting and training the new ones?

We have since returned twice to give them the benefit of doubt now the business is well established. Unfortunately the service and attitude of wait staff hasn't much improved.

I am more than happy to continue getting take away from this business but I won't be dining in again in a hurry.

This review is for Mister Close, Melbourne VIC

Funky contemporary design and friendly atmosphere - you'll feel like part of the Mister Close family on your first visit! The food is a bit pricey but it's worth paying that little bit extra for made fresh daily, high quality food using local products... That's if you even make it past the oh-do-tempting daily offering of sweet or savory muffins!!

Avoid visiting at 9am if you're in a hurry because that's when local workers come for their morning coffee hit, but again, it's worth the wait for perfectly brewed Campos coffee made with love by the friendly baristas.

Drop by next time you're in the cbd and try it for yourself, you'll leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.

I've always found Voodoo very accommodating and they've always been able to fit me in even at the last minute. The staff are always friendly and willing to listen & discuss my needs. They use great quality products which leave my hair smelling amazing! Whilst I do find their prices a little high compared to other salons I've visited, its kinda worth it for the massage chairs and quality of service. Definitely worth a visit!

This review is for Captain Gummy's Fish & Chips, Doncaster East VIC

verified email - 08 Sep 2012

When I moved to the area I was thrilled to discover I had such a great local fish & chips shop. The food is always fresh and cooked perfectly, the service is fast and there are some great lunch and dinner packs available. Their souvlakis are delicious and the staff are always very friendly. Possibly the best thing is that they're open 7 days a week! I highly recommend this shop :)
